Olivia Davenport’s plan is destined to fail.

She is going through with it anyway, of course. After all, it is the chance of a lifetime. The unreasonable rules of others should not stand in her way.

In her small kingdom of Stewartsland, Olivia trains with the squires and harbors a secret dream. She longs to become a knight under the command of the Master-of–Arms, who just h

Thank you to Jane McGarry for sending me a free ecopy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely did not expect to fall in love with this book. And yet, here I am, about to rave about it.

This is definitely one of the best ARCs I've received and I'm so glad to have been able to read and review it!

"Oh yes, because this is every girl's ultimate wish. I don't get the princess fantasy—the adult-perpetuated myth that every little girl should dream of becoming a princess. Because you live happily ever after, right? This presumption is unconvincing to me. True princes are a rare find. So let's face it, the odds of becoming an actual princess are slim at best. Girls should be taught to create their own happiness."

I was a little hesitant to read this one when Jane e-mailed me because there was virtually nothing about this book other than on Amazon. It's not even on Goodreads! I will have to fix that. But, when I started reading Not Every Girl, all my hesitations went away. Jane managed to suck me in to this world and story in no time at all.

Olivia Davenport is the daughter of the King's Master At Arms. She has been training with the squires for many years, and dreams of being a knight. But, Olivia is a g

Imagine the tandem Pride and Prejudice and Mulan. This is what you get.

And yes, expect that our heroine Olivia Davenport is a mash of Elizabeth Bennet and Mulan Fa. It’s actually wonderful. Olivia comes from a family of parents and five sisters and her father favors her a lot too, which is very Lizzy like if you’ll ask me. But I’m afraid she is a weakling to her desire, which brings her to deceive Puck, her own best friend, and replace him on the mission she wants badly for herself. That’s when

Thanks to Jane McGarry for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This isn't your typical books about fairytales and happily-ever-afters. The character buildup is very realistic and empowering. Olivia is a strong character. She stood up for what she believed in and proved to everyone and herself that she can do what men can, even planning and fighting a war. I like that the story doesn't revolve around her masquerading as a boy. I was afraid that this was one of those Mulan rip-off

If you are looking for a book full of action, adventure, and a leading lady that wants nothing more than to be a knight. This is the book for you.

I loved this book from the very first chapter. Olivia is such a great character and her development through out the book is flawless. Prince Liam is a wonderful character as well and I love how they interacted. I also enjoyed how it wasn't really an insta-love. I mean they fell in love over the span of a week but it was so cute how it blossomed. I fou

*Jane very kindly sent this book to me for an honest review*

I rated this book 4/5 for the excellent and engaging writing style which hooked me into the story. I personally found it hard to get passed the first 25% of the story (reading slump *cries*) but once I was passed this part I loved the book. I was kind of out of my depth when I read this book as it was out of my usual genre because I usually stick to YA romance etc. and there was not much to go on!

I had nothing but high expectations for this book, I had read the first couple chapters and was instantly pulled in! Jane was so kind and generous for offering to send me a review copy of her book, and when I received it I marathoned it. I did not realize how fast I was reading it, I finished it in less then two days.

Not Every Girl is so empowering, it's one big adventure filled with action, humour and romance! One of the best author debut novels that I have read. A solid 5 out of 5 stars.

Thanks Jane for sending me a free copy to R&R. I couldn't imagine not having read this and have this book in my thoughts. It was a very good read with visual text, imagery, well involved characters, love, romance, willpower, intrigue, battles, action and adventure and so much more. I became entranced with the characters. My heart would warm and I would root for the main character hoping the best for her or gasp when the adventure would begin. Think of a medieval Mulan-esque adventure. Thank ...more

So I just read this in one sitting. Thank you Jane so much for sending me a review copy!! This sort of reminded me of Mulan. All Olivia wants is to be a knight. The only thing holding her back is the fact that she is a girl. She's such a strong character and definitely proves that being a girl has no limits. And Liam. I wuv him.

This book reminded me of Mulan in some aspects and I loved it! Olivia was such a strong character and I loved that she made it her mission to show that girls can do what boys can do and sometimes better. I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad that Jane Mcgarry contacted me and sent me her book in exchange for an honest review.

I have had this book for a while now to review and I am so glad that I finally took the time to sit down and read it. The world and characters that McGarry has created are done so well, I found myself staying up late just to read one more chapter, which we all know is never just one.

The main character, Olivia, was definitely an interesting girl. Her personality was fun and witty I loved her personality throughout the story. There definitely was a touch of Mulan like similarities in the story, wh

Not Every Girl has pretty much everything you want in a fantasy book. Excitement. A well-built world. A handsome prince. A spunky heroine.

Olivia grows up in a world of expectations. She knows what her future will look like - become a bride, forced to sit at home and let her husband have the adventures. That doesn't sit well with her. She's spent her life training with the squires, but never truly being one of them. She's a girl. She can't. So when the king announces a journey into another land,

Not Every Girl by Jane McGarry is a YA fantasy full of sword fighting adventure and handsome princes. It tells the story of a teen girl named Oliva Davenport who dreams of a life bigger than what her mother has planned. Olivia has trained as a squire under the father's tutelage, and she wants the chance to prove her worth fighting to protect the fictional realm of Stewartsland. When Olivia misses out on the chance to accompany her father and his other squires-in-training on a foray into the wood ...more

A quick read with engaging characters, betrayal, unexpected allies, battles, friendship and romance.

Not Every Girl wants to be a knight. Olivia does. Olivia is a great heroine - except for the way she gets herself onto the mission, that was seriously not cool - she's passionate, honest, dedicated, protective, and the very definition of brave. She also has a tendency to babble. I also liked Prince Liam. He can be a haughty prince but he's also a courageous fighter, a gallant protector and a swee

Love, love, love!! A must read! So many books, so little time. Well, I'm sure glad that I took the time to read this one. If you are looking for a fun read with a bad-ass heroine, a handsome prince and lots of adventure, then this book is for you. A lovely, clean read and I enjoyed it immensely.

This story of a young girl who is a square peg that her mother keeps trying to put it the proverbial round hole of the expected behavior 'properly' raised young lady.

Her father, on the other hand, has encouraged her unseemly behavior of training as a squire. She made a deal with her mother when she was 12 years old that in five years she would stop squire training. Lucky for everyone she has this training and the training with her father in strate

Great fantasy adventure story!
Olivia is a tomboy, a disappointment for her mother and older sisters but the son her father never had.
Being head of the King's Protection allows Olivia's father to let her train as a squire with the other young men of about the same age. Yet he will not allow her to take part in a mission with the other squires. Olivia decides to take matters into her own hands, disguises herself as a boy, drugs her best friend and pretends to be him on the mission. It's not long

3 Stars - From Underground Book Reviews

With action-packed scenes, a strong (albeit imperfect) female protagonist and set in a well-developed world, this story is for those who want a light and refreshing read about being brave enough not to live up to what others expect you to be and forging your own path. Readers who are looking for an extremely empowering female character, wholly perfect and strong, will not find one here. But if a flawed and relatable teenage protagonist is right up your alle

First of all, It’s quite good and decent read and I think it’s a great start for a debut Author. Though I haven’t enjoyed it as much as expected but still I liked it. It’s intriguing synopsis is what made me interested to check this out. The plot wasn’t deep but it was interesting enough to make it an engaging read.

This was a light, quick read, and I finished it in just two days! I liked how there was a ton of action, adventure, and excitement doused in with the romance.
