Sometimes it's not the destination, but the detour...

Kayla has the perfect strategy for a broken heart: work, work, and more work. Then a storm sends her car skidding off the road, stranding her in Mount Pleasant. Fortunately, rescue comes in the form of the incredibly handsome but gruff Brent Masterson. And he's hot enough to tempt Kayla into doing something she never tho

Kayla has always been a hard worker, she puts a lot into her career. She's still hurt from the loss of her mom and chooses to throw herself into her career. That works well for her until someone at work frames her for something she didn't do and she's suspended for a week without pay. With nothing else to do, she drives a couple hours to Mount Pleasant to visit her brother. Because of an ice storm, she gets stuck on the side of the road and needs rescued. I received an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review and here it is.

This is the first novel I've read by Kyra Jacobs and I found it to be a well-written and very entertaining one.

Her heroine, Kayla, who works for a large advertising agency is put on a one-week suspension without pay after someone sabotages one of her ads for a major client. She's is so distraught over the suspension that she gets in her car and drives, heading off to see her brother, a mechanic, who lives three hour

This story was cute and a little different so that was refreshing. Kayla is suspended from her job for a week without pay. She takes off to get coffee and ends up visiting the town where her brother lives which is 3 hours away. She doesn't seem to think her day from hell can get any worse but it does.

First she runs into Brent literally and he gets her suit all dirty then on her way out of town she her car skids on black ice into a ditch. While walking in the rain back to town she is saved by Br

What a great read Her Unexpected Detour turned out to be, I really enjoyed it.

Loved both Kayla and Brett, they were likable and relatable characters. They had great chemistry and from the moment they bump into each other you can feel their attraction.

The storyline was entertaining, it captured my interest from the first page and I didn't put it down until I finished reading. All the characters added to my enjoyment of this book, loved Ruby and Miles!

This is the second book I've read by Kyra and I like it even more than the first. The whole concept of the Checkerberry Inn made me want to drag the hubby out for an extended weekend at a nearby B&B. The story was a pleasant mix of complex and yet still easy-going which was great. I read to escape the daily grind and relax a little. This story kept me engaged, but happily helped me checkout of my daily routine. The characters were great too. Yeah, I loved the hero and heroine, but my hat is ...more

I Love These Characters!

I was gifted a copy for an honest review.

What would you do if fate threw you into the path of a handsome stranger who lives in a different town? Workaholic Kayla gets suspended from her job and rushes out of town to go see her brother without checking the weather. One ice storm later Kayla is stranded out in the middle of nowhere where she meets the grumpy Brent and the dance begins. Lovable characters (especially Ruby) and a sweet love story - I give Her Unexpected Deto

This was such a cute little romance and the perfect way to start a new series. Both Kayla and Brent were damaged and realistically flawed characters that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Here’s what’s going on: Kayla’s been accused of pulling a prank that could cost the advertisement company she works for their biggest client. Although Kayla wasn’t the one who doctored the ad, yet she’s the one that’s been put on unpaid leave for a week. Deciding to take a detour on her coffee break, she ends up heading ou

Her Unexpected Detour is the first book I've read by Kyra Jacobs and I'll certainly be coming back and reading more of the Checkerberry Inn series.

"...the further he stayed away from her, from anyone, the safer his heart would be."

Although it did go through a bit of a lull in the middle, on the whole Her Unexpected Detour was an easy read with great characters. Low on drama and with humour, much courtesy of Brent's Grandma, Ruby who was fabulous at keeping her Grandsons in-line and in her mat

Really LOVED this story! I thought the characters were great (adored Ruby!), and they worked perfectly together!! Hopefully we will be getting Miles' story soon! OK enough exclamations. I really did enjoy this book though and can't wait to read more.

Brent Masterson has had his heart shattered in the past so there is no way he is going to lay it out there again. That's why staying away from Kayla is priority number one. The attraction is too strong so best just to ignore it!

I really enjoyed this story by author Kyra Jacobs. Kayla is in a situation that anyone would find trying, being suspended, without pay, and stranded at a small inn in Michigan. Not only that, she has to deal with a grumpy, sour Brent, a man not willing to let anyone in. But still, the inn is enchanting, the proprietor, Brent's grandmother, Ruby, is a lovely warm woman, and a secondary cast of colorful characters. Kayla wants to help Brent and Ruby, but doing so might mean having to drop the cast ...more

Ahhh...this was a sweet little story. It was a quick read, not a ton of drama, likable characters and plot. Overall, I gave it 4ish stars. I will definitely read more of this authors work.

Her Unexpected Detour is about two individuals whose roads collide unexpectedly and now they are giving a second chance at love/life.

From the very beginning we get to meet Kayla who has just been accused at her job for pulling up a terrible prank on one of the company’s biggest clients. Though she only gets suspended, she knows who changed her final advertisement plan, and she is willing to do anything to save her reputation. But soon she f
This was a delightful romance to escape into with great characters, plenty of twists and turmoil all leading to the much anticipated HEA! Well written, with a feisty but put upon female lead and a male with so much trauma in his past that he’s built a wall to keep out all non-family comers!

Kayla is starting to realise that the company she works for really don’t appreciate her talent, honesty, skills and hard work - especially after a nasty prank played on her lands her in hot water! Suspended fo

Someone at Kayla Daniel's Ft. Wayne advertising job wants to cause trouble for her – enough trouble to get her suspended. She’s so furious that when they ask her to take an unpaid leave, she gets in her car and just keeps on driving, right to Mount Pleasant, Michigan where her brother, Tommy lives.

She didn’t think about the roads being so icy, though, and when her car skids off the road and she can’t get any cell reception there’s no choice but to start walking. When hunky Brent Masterson sees a

Kayla has unexpectedly found herself in hot water with her boss, and on suspension from work for a entire week, this of course doesn't settle to well with the workaholic Kayla. She is in dire need of some sound advice and have the opportunity to vent a little so she heads to Mount Pleasant to see her brother. Bad weather has set in, and the roads are not suitable for driving, and Kayla soon finds herself stuck in the ditch, and without cell phone service, so she sets out to find a house that may ...more

Brent is crabby, grouchy, and a negative Nelly -- you can't help but want to hate him. But he had his own version of sarcasm and while at times it was rude sarcasm, there were moments of light in there... especially when his sarcasm was met by the sarcasm of the bright spot in his day.

Well, as bright of a spot as a second-chance run in with a woman he'd met earlier could be -- first run in? At the diner, where he dirtied

Kayla was wrongly accused at work and put on suspension without pay. In the spur of the moment, she heads down to Mt Pleasant to look for her brother Tommy. Just as she was making her way back, her car skidded off a patch of ice and bumped into a fence post off the road. Good thing she was unhurt although that can't be said of her car. She was in the middle of nowhere and in dire need of rescue as an ice storm was approaching.

Brent Masterson has been badly hurt and he's not gonna risk his heart

Loved this one! It was so sweet and emotional. It was a lot of fun to read and I had a really hard time putting it down.
Kayla is having a really bad day when she runs into Brent. Literally. And her day just keeps getting worse. Brent rescues her from a situation with her car and the two of them butt heads yet still find themselves completely drawn to one another.

Really sweet read. It's an easy read with a heroine that can't seem to stay out of trouble. Kayla has a run of bad luck starting with being put on suspension at work and getting caught in a freak ice storm on a back road to her brother's house. Luckily Brent a moody and not so approachable personality comes upon her wreaked car. He's nice enough to rescue her and take her to his grandmother's bed and breakfast. Turns out Kayla likes moody men

An unexpected gem. This rates in the cute factor for me. You have the woman who throws herself into her job only to be set up and suspended. Without much thought she heads out of town to visit her brother and gets stuck on the side of the road in an ice storm. In comes Brent. Brent has had his heart broken and avoids women and decides not to risk his heart again. He comes across Kayla on the side of the road and stops to help and of course finds an attractions to her that he is not happy about. ...more

Absolutely loved this.
I was pulled in from the first chapter and found myself staying up all hours of the night just to finish reading it. This is one of those sweet romance novels. Kayla is so work driven that she has a hard time letting herself feel free. Until she meets Brent. He is standoffish and quiet. He is protecting his heart from being hurt again. I love this story. I found myself feeling the emotions as the characters did. I cried with Kayla and growled along with Brent.

This is a wonderful and fun story! Both main characters were hurt in the past, but when they are thrown together time and again, it all starts to come together. Lighthearted, but emotional that gets to the heart of the story, this new-to-me author will have me coming back again and again to read her stories.

Bad things happen to good people. What doesn’t kill me only makes me stronger. Why do all the silly cliches run through our heads when the bad stuff hits the fan? Kayla didn’t do anything wrong. She wasn’t the one who pulled that ridiculous switch or prank. So why was she the one on suspension? How come she got the blame for someone else’s actions? Nope, life wasn’t fair.

When Kayla makes a split second decision to head for her brother’s place it might have been

3.5 stars. This is a cute contemporary read with a hardworking, yet thoroughly unappreciated heroine and a grumpy hero. Don’t rely too much on that blurb, though, since Kayla is not running from a broken heart. In fact it’s problems at work that see her driving three hours to see her little brother, and it’s the return journey that lands her in the ditch from which Brent reluctantly rescues her. It also implies that they’ve known each other for a while, when really the roadside rescue is only th ...more
