Never trust an all-powerful ruler who is used to getting his way in everything, is insulting to everyone, and invites you from a great distance to get an "insider's view" of where the sun shines best in your village. He probably wants to raze your village, making everyone there homeless, in order to make way for his vacation villa with village size swimming pool. All red flags. That is Emperor Kuzco, but in the end, through a series of events, he learns (a little), the value of a true friend as opposed to the "yes-men" that surrounded him and really plotted his demise, and the importance of keeping one's word. Great moral. I didn't give it a higher rating, since it seemed a bit long and tedious for the younger set. I even got bored with it.

This book is about an emperor who is very mean. He is not happy unless servents are waiting on him hand and foot. He fires his advisor and she vows to get rid of him so she can be emperor. She gives him a potion that she thinks will kill him, but instead it turns him into a llama. He runs into a peasant that he had just been very mean to and gets him to agree to lead him back to his palace. Do they make it back and does the emperor start being nice? Read the book to find out.
I would use this book in my classroom along with a lesson about how to treat people and decieving them.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was fresh and funny. This book version follows the movie very closely. Only a few details were removed and the illustrations were stills from the movie. The pictures were large, too. There was dialog from the movie which kept the book flowing, instead of it being written more like a fairy tale.

4/11: Natalie really likes this book now. She's seen the movie a couple times and will bring it to me saying Kuzco. I don't read the words to her, but paraphrase the action. If I do that, she can sit through the whole thing which out much trouble.

I read this adaptation long before I saw the actual movie. I like how they use the same images from the actual movie and most of the same dialogue. Its so fun to see it on paper. The Emperor's sharp humor is evident even in book form.

This is a cute little book that is short and would be ideal for a night time story.

A delightful retelling of the movie but a I am sad they didn't mention Kronk's shoulder angels. Still a good beginner's book and full of fun reference art of the characters.

I liked that the guy realized he needed to think about others and that was super cool.

Cute and funny. I bought it for my son, Muhammed and read it with him many times in the early 2000s. He loves it.
