My patronus is a platypus and I prefer Star Trek to Star Wars. I'm not sure there's anything else you need to know about me. Will update as events warrant.
2.5 stars. While the pace and action live up to the first book the story as a whole doesn't. Overall I was quite unsatisfied because: - I was annoyed by Angel taking Mikey's word at face value - she is smarter and more suspicious than that. I mean she is literally suspicious of EVERY single person she meets or knows but she believes Mikey with no second thoughts - again and again. I mean I could see how she might given him the benefit of the doubt when they first meet (altho I still think she would have been more suspicious) but when she continued to trust him and include him in all the plans even when he had PROVEN to be working against them really bugged me. - then there was the whole thing with Thomas losing his memory so he doesn't even remember Angel at all even tho she manages to get the antidote. I could have lived with him forgetting the events of book 2 but to have him forget the entire past year including their meeting and his evil mother really bothered me. Sure they meet up again and we are lead to believe they will start fresh but a big part of their bond is everything they went through TOGETHER so losing that kind of ruins it for me. - and the final thing that bugged me was evil murderous grandpa gets away with everything and suffers no consequences for his actions. Sure that may be how it works in real life but i read fiction to see the bad guys get theirs every single time!
This book was much more like a full on Action Thriller than Tabula Rasa was. If you like a full tilt run of action sequence after action sequence with lots of gunplay, this book is for you. Unfortunately the replacement of the more character driven elements I loved in Tabula Rasa with more action scenes (and all of the coincidences needed to move this type of storyline forward in a timely manner) was a negative for me.
I was approved for an eARC, via the publisher, in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed this two book storyline. I was more intrigued by book one but book two was a solid four stars for me. Only four because there were some moments I felt stuck and had to push through. I enjoyed the characters and the plot was very unique and interesting. I would recommend to friends and family.
I almost never give five stars, so four is real compliment. The story of Angel -- Sarah -- is troubling, compelling, heartbreaking, yet somehow hopeful. I don't want to give out spoilers, but Angel faces a life that is both our greatest fear and greatest hope. I love the book -- read Tabular Rasa first, to get the whole story -- and want to read more from this author. I wish there were a third book (maybe there is/ will be?). I highly recommend.
Very action packed and solid sequel to Tabula Rasa. Tabula Rasa was one of my fave YA books a couple years back and I think I should’ve reread it before this one because it took me awhile to figure out what was going on. The action starts pretty quickly and doesn’t let up. The characters are all likable and well developed and the relationships were endearing. The ending was heartbreaking and a definite surprise. Highly recommend this series!
It was a good follow up to the first book. It was definitely action packed and fast moving from the very first chapter, but because there’s only two books in the series it makes sense. I really did like the ending, like it wasn’t a happy ending, but it was closure.
As a huge fan of Tabula Rasa, I was very excited to get my hands on an early copy of Incognita from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. My only regret is that I did not re-read Tabula Rasa before reading Incognita. I found myself grappling along with Angel to remember the past. If you read Tabula Rasa two years ago when I did, do yourself a favor and at least do a skim through before beginning Incognita. I don't want you to be distracted from the ah-maz-ing action in this book!
Almost like a Jason Bourne/Mission: Impossible centering around three teens, Incognita wastes no time plunging the readers into the depths of exciting break-ins, chases, attempted murders, and intrigue. I actually giggled with delight at just how well the book was paced and structured!
The inclusion of Hamlet quotes as a main part of the plot was brilliant!
The flashbacks were well-executed, valuable, and true to all of the characters.
The tone of the writing was very "Angel" and something I always look for in my strong female leads. I love a heroine who will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals and who has a snarky response in her holster!
94% of the way through the novel there is a scene so poignant that I lost it. I cried hot tears on my iPad screen. I can't tell you anything more about it without spoiling the book, but holy cats. This sequence is really the finest of KLM's writing. Beautifully tragic.
So, let's sum this up: 1. Review Tabula Rasa (aka: be smarter than I was) 2. Dive in! 3. Get the tissues ready for 94% on. 4. Leave the lady a review!
Wow! Incognita kept me glued to the pages. I haven't read a book that has done that in a long time.
As I said in my review of Tabula Rasa, the premise is way out there. But you know what? It doesn't matter. The writing is good, I cared about the characters, and the plot clips along.
Sarah (mostly known as Angel in this book) is safe at the end of Tabula Rasa. She and Thomas are going to be reunited, and go on their first real date. Of course all hell breaks loose. People are after Angel again, and Thomas is kidnapped. She gets help from another kid who seems like he's been through the same thing Angel has. But can she trust him? It's never quite clear.
The teens are running out of time because Thomas and the new kid need the antedote to whatever strange drug they have been given or they will loose all of their memories. The attacks are relentless. Every time it seems they are close to surviving, they are again thwarted by "the bad guys," of which there are many. They can trust no one.
Incognita has a resolution for all of the characters, although it might not be the ideal we are hoping for. I would definitely recommend reading Tabula Rasa first. The series is supposed to be a trilogy, and I'm looking forward to the third book, because I want a happier ending!
Angel is hoping she can get her life back together, finally, after escaping from the clutches of an evil mind-altering program and being reunited with the family she never knew she had. Unfortunately, the world has other plans for her. She notices a strange boy following her, and then her boyfriend is kidnapped during the middle of a fancy party - and she's almost killed, with the strange boy saving her - and suddenly she finds herself on the run again and in the middle of a life she wanted to leave behind.
Having never read the first book in this series, it took me some time to get acclimated, and I still never really understood the full import of some of the occurrences that Angel mentions in the course of this story, but I was able to orient myself reasonably well. It's a pretty fun story that went by quickly. Angel's a pretty kickass heroine, and I always think the world needs more of those.
This story is as action-packed as the first Tabula Rasa installment but has the added emotional stakes of certain (trying to avoid spoilers here) people knowing who they are and how they feel about each other. Excellent dialogue, and one of my favorite cop scenes of all time.
In this action-packed sequel, we follow Angel as she continues to kick butt and thwart the nefarious villains who want to use her mind for their own purposes. It was great to see more of Angel and Thomas, and the heart-pounding action never stopped. I couldn't stop turning pages.
Spoiler!!!! I felt that the ending was good but I was not happy that Tom lost his memory. I felt that the first book was much better than the first but I did love the antagonist's wife in the plot. In conclusion, it was an adequate novel with an okay conclusion.
I love this book. The story line. The suspense and the love drama behind it. I loved it. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants a quick read but has a fast moving storyline behind it.
I liked this book a lot except for the ending. I think the author should make this a trilogy because the ending doesn't seem right, it seems like the end of Champion by Marie Lu.
