Jill Shalvis is a NYT, USA Today, and Amazon Top 100 bestselling author of small-town romance and romcoms, known for big feels, found family, and plenty of shenanigans.

If you love small-town chaos, meddling friends and neighbors, sizzling chemistry, and heroes who fall hard for the one woman they absolutely did not plan on, you’re in the right place. Jill’s books blend laugh-out-loud moments with emotional gut punches, slow-burn tension, and deeply earned happily ever afters.

She writes the stories she loves to read: small-town romance and romantic comedies packed with heart, heat, second chances, grumpy/sunshine sparks, and the kind of found-family vibes that make you want to move right into the pages. Many of her series are perfect for binge-reading, and a number of her books are available in Kindle Unlimited and at major retailers.

When she’s not writing, she’s probably plotting new ways to torture her characters, avoiding laundry, or daydreaming about fictional men and the strong, complicated women who bring them to their knees—and then making them work for it.

You can follow Jill here on Goodreads to keep up with new releases, add her books to your shelves, and discover which small town you want to get lost in next.

Jill Shalvis is one of my go-to contemporary authors while Elle Kennedy is starting to be one also after I read and surprisingly loved The Deal. Let's admit it, many cliches and tropes have already been used and are now overused by most NA books out there. But Elle Kennedy's The Deal somehow brought back my faith in new adult. Not all, but some.

Time Out & Body Check is a book divided into two stories with Time Out written by Jill Shalvis and Body Check by Elle Kennedy. Time Out revolves around a hockey coach and his childhood friend that will change his ways and make him rethink his commitment issues while in Body Check, it's the other way around with the girl giving the guy the hard time. Both stories are very steamy with likable characters but in my opinion, Jill Shalvis' story is much better when it comes to the overall execution of the story. Plus, Time Out is steamier and has a lot more sex scenes. Not that those affected my view of the book in any way. Okay, maybe a little. But I think Shalvis has the upper-hand here since I've read more of her books than Kennedy's and maybe it's also because I trust her that any book of hers will ultimately make me fall in love with it. And I did, I love this book.

So I'm giving four stars for Jill Shalvis and three stars for Elle Kennedy for an average of 3.5 stars for this whole book.

This anthology contains two hockey romance novellas that were just the thing when I needed a break. Both were pretty well written, and could even have been stretched out more if the authors wanted to develop them into full-length novels. I liked the characters and the plots, and may even try out more books by Jill Shalvis, whose work I've not tried before. The second story was by Elle Kennedy, who scored another good one here.

I have a few go-to authors...Jill Shalvis being one of them. I have also become a huge fan of sports romance. So I was really excited to come across this book.

TIME OUT:
This one is by Jill Shalvis and she didn't let me down. (She never does). This is about Mark Diego, an NHL coach and Rainey Saunders, the woman he has always had a thing for. But when Rainey went after Mark many years ago, as he put it she was a 'felony'...too young. Well that teen has turned into a woman he just can't get enough of. Jill has put into this book so much heat and humor...as always you will be anxious, you will laugh and sometimes you might even cry. This was a great read.

BODY CHECK:
This was the first time I have read Elle Kennedy. She had me right from the first sentence. "I really need to get laid. Houston said..." That would grab you too. This is about Hayden Houston, daughter of the owner of the Warriors NHL team. She is an art professor at Berkeley and dating another professor from Berkeley also. Doug is one of the good ones....safe, comfortable and not willing to go to the next step. He wants to get to know her first. So Hayden goes out one night looking for a bad boy for a one night stand. She meets up with Brady Croft, a hockey player for the Warriors, but she doesn't know that. She doesn't like sports. Brady is pleased that she likes him for him...not his money or what he can do for her. But he doesn't know who she is as she only told him her first name. You have to follow these two as they travel the road to a HEA. Lots of laughs and tears here too. This is also a great read.

Rainey and Mark, Hayden and Brody

Time Out

Hayden had a crush on Mark as a teenager even though he was four years older then him. She told him in not so many words but he rejected her. She's been embarrassed ever since. Then he came back into her life. She tried really hard not to get hurt...

The book was a 3.5/5. I've really kind of forgotten what I did and didn't like about the book. After I read a book I have to immediately do my write-up or else I'll forget it. Well, that didn't happened because I went straight into reading the second book in this eBook.

Body Check

I just love this book!

Hayden has returned to Chicago to support her father in a nasty divorce. She was also happy to be home to spend time with her best friend Darcy. She and Darcy are out one night and she complains that she hasn't had sex in over a year even though she's been dating a guy for two months. He wasn't ready to go over the " intimacy bridge". Uh, what a loser. So that night Darcy convinces her to have her first one night stand. That's when she picked Brody to be her one night. It just got a little more complicated than that..

This is the second time I've read this book. I think I like it better this time. It's in the third person and I normally don't like that but Elle did a fantastic job expressing both their feelings and thoughts etc. I grew to love each of them.

4/5

Two for one

I love that this eBook has two great sport romances by two talented authors. Both have hunky men that are hockey stars. The first book is Time Out, it's centered around Mark and Rainey who have known each other since teenagers but have never acted on their feelings. Rainey basically threw herself at Mark when she was 16 but he turned her down so this was an unrequited love situation which is my favorite to read. Body Check is the second story and I liked it just a little less than the first but it's still really good. Hayden decides to have a one night stand with Brody and then discovers the next day he's a hockey star on the team her dad owns, oh no! :) Fun couples with great chemistry together. Read when you're in a sports romance mood.

I was disappointed with this one, both authors are favorites of mine, but neither story worked for me. I can't really put my finger on a reason why. I didn't really care for the woman in Shavlis's story, she seemed like she was stuck a bit in the past. While in Kennedy's story, the women made me laugh, but not in a good way. The way each of them viewed men and how Hadley should get out of her slump made me shake my head. In the end this one just wasn't for me.

I only read Body Check in this one so far because I was really missing Garrett and this seemed to be a good way to ease that pain... It threw me off that his name was Brody because one of my other favorite hockey players is Brody also. While nothing can top Brody Murphy, this quick story was just what I needed. I think I am becoming a hockey fan without even watching much hockey! lol! Quick, steamy, and quenched my athlete/hockey player thirst! 4 stars

Two great books

I really enjoyed both these sports romance books. I am a huge Elle Kennedy fan and almost skipped the first one but so glad I read it. Both books had just the right amount of a plot and storyline, hot sex and of course hot sport players in this case ice hockey. I highly recommend.

Time Out & Body Check

Jill Shavis is the best, I have read every book she has written and loved them all. I was drawn to this book because it involve Hockey players and what's not to like about Hockey players. Body Check was a great story too. Loved the characters and loved the story. Highly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed.
