The summary inside says it's a 'collection of four previously published works', but goodreads isn't saying which four. 'Making the Cut' is apparently the first four books, though, and from the summaries it sounds like this is books #5-8.

There's also a 'book' listed on the series page that's just titled 'Chloe by design', but it looks from the publisher's page that it's a box set, with books #5-8.(less)

Chloe By Design is apparently aimed at ages 9 - 12, but is about a 16-year-old who has landed an internship at one of the most popular fashion houses after winning a popular TV show. Chloe must deal with new roommates, a new crush and the stresses of proving herself in the internship. Firstly, the illustrations in the book were perhaps my favourite part, although they were pretty repetitive. The story, whilst I enjoyed the parts about the internship, just bored me. The main character, Chloe, was ...more

Even though there were lots of issues with this book, I still liked the overall story and concept of this series so I still gave it 3 stars, as opposed to the 2 I was considering. This is the continuation of Chloe's story after winning a design show in the first book. She is working at her internship at a famous designer in NYC as part of her prize and gets to experience several different departments in the fashion world. This story really focuses on the fashion aspect of her life, there is a to ...more

Chloe Montgomery has just won the reality television competition Teen Design Diva and has won a prestigious summer internship with Stefan Meyers in New York City. Spending the summer working at a fashion label, living in the Fashion Institute of Technology dorms and designing is more than a dream come true. A talented designer, Chloe is up to the task, but being on her own without her best friend Alex or her mom will be a challenge. There is a lot more to learn in the industry besides paisley's ...more

What captivated me first about this book was the cover. The drawing on the cover and inside the book are AMAZING, and when sometimes I couldn't imagine the look from the description given, and next came the draw that wow me.

Meh. I obviously didn't care much for this book, but I think it was more of a personal preference. In general, I don't care much for the "romanticized girly-girl" books. If the intended audience were to read this book, most likely girls (or boys I suppose) aged 8-14, than this book would probably be spectacular and out of this world. Chloe gets an internship for a fashion company over the summer and gets to work with the big guys, which I admit is pretty cool, even though I'm not into fashion my ...more

Balancing Act, the sequel to Making the Cut, is a realistic fiction book by Margaret Gurevich. The book is about a Diva Design winner, based on Project Runway junior, and the internship she won working for Stefan Meyers. Balancing Act is about Chloe’s struggle to balance her overwhelming work and her regular life.
Balancing Act is a nice mundane read if you’ve just finished a really stressful read, as it doesn’t have a lot of angst. Balancing Act is mos

Honestly reading this book made me want to work in the fashion industry, even though I have no fashion sense, because it just made it sound so fun! I love the descriptions of the different jobs in a business and it really made me think about how there are many different parts working together to create a successful company and that the number one thing is to not care about your own fame and success but the success of the business overall. Also the illustrations in the book were an excellent addi ...more

Bravo to Ms. Gurevich! This book is unique and will be a hit with teen girls! I love the story line which deals with fashion design and a high school intern wanting to break into the business. The main character strives to maintain a high standard of morals and work ethic in a field that is known for its' competitiveness. I deeply appreciate that the author did not feel the pressure to add profanity, sexual scenarios, or homosexual references. It was simply a good, clean book that I know my stud ...more

This book was great, but it had a few minor flaws. If you plan to read this book, don't make the mistake I did, I accidentally read this book thinking it was the first in the series, only to find out when I finished the book that it was a summary of number 5-8. That was disappointing. Great book, but please if your planning to read this series, start with the first one

I enjoyed the book and I always found the illustrations with the designs included to add color and fun to the book.
I liked the story concept because you cannot always balance everything, as displayed in the story.

I thought it was great! It really showed the way of interning and I would recommend it to other girls out there. Chloe shows her passion and how kindness and being yourself can get you recognized. I love how it shows that you don't have to be perfect all the time.

This book was very informative about fashion and life when you are in your later teens. It says dilemmas that happened when Chloe first started out as an intern but she made it. This book gives beautiful pictures and tips. This was a great book.

I think this is a good book because it explains what it's like to be a young intern. It is inspiring because the overall message is go for your dreams and if you put the work in you'll succeed.

I would give Balancing Act 4 stars. I was so happy to finally read the second book after a year of finishing the first. This book follows Chloe interning for Stefan Meyers after winning Design Diva. Chole gets along with most of her roommates except one Madison who thinks she doesn't deserve the internship. Chloe gets over her mean comment and still hopes the can get along. Chloe in this book works really hard to prove how good of a worker and designer she is. This book has lots of colorful sket ...more

In Balancing Act, we follow Chloe at her New York fashion house internship that she won in Book #1 (Making the Cut). She lives in a dorm where one of her roommates gives her a hard time about not earning her way into the industry. But Chloe is so good at creating unique fashion, that her samples get chosen to be made into designs for fashion week. Her mentors even give her a gift bag at the end of her internship — and it contains a surprise that Chloe had only dreamed of.

I really liked the full

Somehow I'd managed to think I'd reviewed Chloe's tale, which I hadn't. I love tales where characters chase their dreams, which for Chloe evolved around fashion. She gets to see a variety of departments in a fashion house, as well as a variety of characters. Her fellow interns are competitive, some with a bit of a mean streak, but by working hard and being good Chloe is rewarded with amazing opportunities.

I like how modest she is, how she doesn't always think her ideas are good, but how she en

The first thing that captivated me was the cover. I loved the cover design, the watercolours and the artwork was just divine. The next that caught my attention as the story about a fashion designer so of course a girl who loves fashion would be interested in reading about it.

I love the cover and the designs throughout the book. It was a cute book, but not really my thing.

The characters were well defined and I liked their little quirks. The story had it's ups and downs, it was full of life and a good enjoyable read. Great for younger readers. Especially young girls who like fashion.

My next book during this school year was Balancing Act by Margaret Gurevich. In Balancing Act, Chloe is New York City working as an intern for designer Stefan Meyers, after winning design competition, Teen Design Diva. She learns the harsh and fast paced reality of being a designer, while facing prejudice and a crush. Can she rise to the occasion or will she stumble and fall?
I thoroughly enjoyed Balancing Act because I am a fashion critic and love chic-lit. This book definitely kept me pulled

This book was really good. Chloe after the book "Make the Cut" earned an internship at Stefan Meyers fashion company. Chloe was an intern for 6 weeks and interned for three people. Chloe also got to help with Fashion Week which made her really happy. Chloe also got to be a guess judge on the show "Teen Design Diva" which is the show that gave her, her internship because she won. When Chloe was interning for her first person, Laura, Chloe designed pockets and at a meeting with Stefan, he loved he ...more
