“Inherit the Wind” by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee debuted in 1955. It is a play that fictionalizes a story of the 1923 Scopes “Monkey” Trial. In that trial John T. Scopes was convicted because he had taught Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution to a high school science class. It was against the Tennessee State Law of the time. It discusses the McCarthy trials.
The play has been revived several times since its launch.
