Science fiction and fantasy fans are going to love these brief shorts for what they are, an escape into the world of “what if” and “make believe.” You know those days when that reading fix needs to be fed and, well, you have time for just a couple of pages at a time. Hardly fulfilling or satisfying, right? What if those few pages were filled with a complete, but very short tale that leaves you thinking, and looking forward to more? The World and Stars by authors like Tanith Lee, Paul Laville, Le ...more

I received this book for free via Goodreads First Reads.

The book is an anthology of 24 short stories. There is no theme as such just a lot of great writers collected together in a book that I really enjoyed reading.

There are stories set on Earth, on other planets, in the future and in the past. Every story is completely different and although some seemed a bit hard to understand on first reading I would read extended versions or other works by any of the authors featured.

It is a book that I dou

THE WORLD AND THE STARS: Dazzling Science Fiction and Fantasy (Kindle Edition)

This book is full of wonderful short stories from some very talented authors. For those who appreciate good sci-fi/fantasy stories these stories will whet your appetites, leaving you wanting more. All of these stories can most definitely be expanded into full novels. These stories make the mind ponder the possibilities on how futuristic inventions can change the dynamics of the human race. Stories such as The Substitu

This compilation offers very different writing styles and approaches to the fantasy and sci-fi realms. A few of them definitely had a "Twilight Zone" type of feel, which I really enjoyed. It gave a sense of reality, that something like this could happen, but will it? A couple had some twists, and the great thing is that if one story is not to your liking, then there are plenty more great concepts. There was one story early on that gave me a little difficulty, but I did not let that dissuade me a ...more

Every so often I like a change to my reading habits and turn to short stories as they give me chance to sample different forms of writing. This collection is an excellent example of that with a rich and varied group of stories from pure science fiction to fantasy and everything in between. Each one challenged me in a different way.

It seems with short stories authors can experiment with the unusual and again if like something a little different then this is for you.

Some of the stories were really intriguing and made you think. There were a few that didn't appeal to me but the others made up for it. Definitely something there that you will like.

This is hard to really rate, as some stories I loved. And some I didn't... Some were a little too sf for me personally.
