An Improper Proposal is the sixth book in the Distinguished Rogues Series by Heather Boyd. It can easily be read as a stand alone book, but after reading it, I am sure you will want to go back to the beginning and read them all.

The story is about Iris Hedley. She was all set to marry, but when her father ended up losing her dowry and all his wealth, she allowed her fiance his freedom to find a wealthy woman because he needed the money. Since then she has been living with a family friend, Esme, a

As some of you may know Heather Boyd is one of my very favorite authors. This lady has talent and every one of her books show it. I am always so anxious to get my hands on her next release that I devour it in no time.

I have had the pleasure of reading three books in the Distinguished Rogues series and I have adored them all. Ms. Boyd has a great voice for writing a historical romance. I found myself completely engrossed in this story from page one. My favorite place to read is the bathtub. While

*I got this copy via netgelly in exchange for an honest review*

“An improper Proposal” by Heather Boyd is the 6th installment in “The Distinguished Rogues” series.

When I first saw the cover I really thought about not requesting the book because it looks cheap and trashy, not Regency at all. Sometimes I ask myself why publishers pay for covers like that ….

BUT I asked for it because I liked the plot.

Iris Hedley is a lovely young lady and she cares deeply about her father who rots in debtor’s prison

Yes, this is a sizzling novel; safe to say it is a bit raunchy but feels like reality of the times. It doesn’t gloss over the morals and attitudes of society by focusing on the simpering debs at the ball. This is about those who are trying to just hang on in society and perhaps even feeling some panic at their perceived downfall. Or some who have learned how to play the game for their own advantage.

I enjoyed this darker regency romance. The characters were brought to life and felt very real. The

This was quite an interesting read, its a romance that starts of with young lady propositioning a titled man to teach her the art of passion, for she has the idea that becoming a wealthy man's mistress is her only option in life. What ensues is a tale full of secrets kept, love developing and a lot of "lessons" in the drawing room, parlor and such. An Improper Proposal has all the elements of erotic passions unfurled, dangerous secrets revealed and other secondary characters whose own stories a ...more

So, I read 1-3 in a bundle and enjoyed it, but wasn't convinced (I didn't much like H 3).

I already had #7 for free, so decided to knock it off, and enjoyed it enough to actually spend money (I'm a huge cheapskate) on the 4-6 bundle. Again, I enjoyed them, but there was another H I didn't really like.

I was all set to buy the next bundle... but it's not been released. The series is up to book 10 or 11 I think, but not sure if it's going to bundle up or not... and I am a huge cheapskate and the '

I am not a huge fan of the 'teach me how to be a well-paid prostitute' trope in romantic fiction. Regardless that it points to a historically accurate lack of options for women who need to earn money, it does gloss over the real and present dangers of sex work. And yes, it glosses over it even when rakish young viscounts are telling young women about the real and present dangers of sex work. And worse, it also threw in some criminal activity prompted by blackmail. Also not a favourite trope. But ...more

Enjoyed It

This was a fun read because the characters were interesting and not imbued with dark emotional baggage. The storyline had its twists and turns that kept me reading.

The heroine is portrayed as strong and in a very good way. She is not headstrong, stubborn nor defiant. Her father is in debtor’s prison and she is being blackmailed into being an accomplice to robbery. She handled her situation quite well. She has maturity and she is the typical virginal, assertive, kind hearted heroine. T

One of best of series. Good stand-alone read too

I'd read a few of series and quit because I didn't enjoy some of the mid-series stories. Because I usually enjoy Boyd's books, decided to give this one a go because of the higher ratings.
Very glad I did.
Thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their relationship. Appreciated that the author showed the characters' development through action and behaviors.
Note-Passionate and sensual with a little graphic language. May not be for those who prefer tame l

I didn't really like the first third. There was just too much fretting and subterfuge going on, but I love the dynamics of the main characters, and they carried me through all the way to the end. It turned out to be a sweet story, still not among the best of Heather Boyd in my opinion, but my faith in the next couple of books in the series has been restored.

This was the dumbest, most unromantic pile of shit I've ever read - or skimmed through, rather. This was so BORING, the hero was a beta hero with a kid he had fathered with some whore who had died in childbirth. This guy even said he would have married the whore if she had told him she was pregnant. Yuck.

She’d rather have a husband, but with no money to her name and her father’s actions ruining her reputation, she’ll have to settle for living the life of a mistress. She approaches Martin, a man she trusts, to ask him about the life of a mistress and what would be expected of her. He’s shocked by her questions but sees she is determined to follow this pa

I absolutely loved this book! The romance was sweet, the hero was swoon worthy, and the heroine was smart and brave. The love scenes were hot and steamy!
Iris has secrets, her father is in debtor's prison, but society believes he is hiding out on the continent. She is also being blackmailed into giving secrets to a man who will hurt her father if she doesn't help him rob member's of the tons houses. Iris wants to find a way to get away from her blackmailer and save up enough money to get her fath

Oh yes. I enjoyed this. Mostly because of Esme. But I liked Iris enough too.

Iris has been living with a family friend, Esme, since her father lost his wealth and ended up in debtors prison. Which, they’ve both been keeping a secret. Everyone else believes that Iris’ father went abroad instead. To ensure her fathers safety in debtors prison Iris has to do a few unsavoury things for an unsavoury character. The only way she can see herself out of this situation is to find herself a rich man to who

An Improper Proposal, Distinguished Rogues, Book 6, is another exceptional novel by Heather Boyd! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves regency historical romance or to those who are thinking of reading the genre for the first time.

Iris Hendley and Martin Andrews, Earl of Louth, each have secrets that they do not wish society to learn. Her farther is in debtor's prison instead of abroad as the public believes. To keep him safe, she is forced to assist robbers. She wants away from it and want

This book is a real good one: good plot, strong characters, interesting and tough intrigue with a lot of passion, suspens and sweet feelings (particularly the Violet's part).

I was so caught by the story that I would have loved to reread it again and again. Sadly, I will not. Because as much as this book is really well written and entertaining, there are too much sensual scenes and far too graphic for my taste.

I know that it is difficult to find a good book without at least one intimate scene on

Many years ago I became hooked on historicals after reading Laurie McBain's book, Devil's Desire. Various authors through the years have fed my addiction. After reading Heather Boyd's fantastic story in An Improper Proposal I know my addiction will continue. Ms Boyd has given us a well written book that includes great characters, drama, a bit of action and let's not forget the sexy bits. I loved this book from cover to cover and I'm glad to have another writer of historical novels to follow. Thi ...more

This is the first book I have read from Heather Boyd but I am now hunting down more of hers! This is actually the sixth book in the series "Distinguished Rogues". To me this is a standalone book so don't be worried if you, like me haven't read the books in order. The heroine, Iris Hedley has fallen on hard times due to her father and his debts. Which has put her on the path to where she ends up asking the hero, Martin Andrews, the Earl of Louth some questions and his help. I like how her friend, ...more

This is the sixth installation of the Distinguished Rogues series. Miss Iris Hedley is a penniless lady who know her prospects are limited. Especially with no dowry, Iris decides to become a mistress. Miss Iris always finds Lord Martin Louth attractive and decides to put inquiries about what duties are expected in a mistress. Lord Martin is shocked, but intrigued. When the lessons begin, the passions ignite. I love this book. You can't help but fall in love with Lord Martin. I received a complim ...more

It's book number six in the series and I haven't read the previous ones. I feel there's too much going on in the book, too many secondary characters and what feels like tidbits of other stories (past or future). The love story itself is quite nice, but I did jump paragraphs and pages quite often. The book might be a lot more enjoyable for somebody who has read the previous books.

Iris Hedley as gone from darling of the ton to ruin. Her father is in debtor’s prison and her only option is to become a mistress to a wealthy man and spy on the ton. Being inexperienced in seduction she asks the Earl of Louth to teach her. Excellent historical romance, fast paced and the story and the characters are excellent. Great Read!
