The book is a follow-up to An Unexpected Affair and features independent bookshop owner, Eleanor. Eleanor is happily settled in a relationship with Daniel. However, their relationship is put to the test when Daniel’s ex-wife, Freya, reappears in his life with a new architectural project that will have a significant impact on the village. Eleanor is strongly opposed to the project and Daniel is caught between the two women.

As the rift between Eleanor and Daniel increases, Eleanor finds

I was lucky enough to get a advance copy of this book and I absolutely loved it. This book is a sequel to 'An Unexpected Affair' and I loved catching up with Eleanor and the other characters from the previous book. I love the way the book is set out and there are some interesting characters thrown into the mix. I found the story entertaining and I did find myself chuckling on a few occasions. The ending is a good one as you will not be expecting it. I love the way Jan writes, and I look forward ...more

A Summer of Surprises is a follow-on novel to the novella An Unexpected Affair, which I really enjoyed. It’s still set in that divine bookshop from the first book which I was pleased to see. The way Eleanor’s love of books (and piles of books) is described will be easy to relate to for a lot of us! Set two years later than An Unexpected Affair, Eleanor is in a relationship with Daniel – a happy relationship but one which maybe isn’t a

I kindly received A Summer of Surprises in exchange of an honest review by the author.

A Summer of Surprises is a sequel novel to the novella An Unexpected Affair. We are back in Combemouth, the wonderful place were Eleanor had built a very nice life for herself in after her divorce. She had no regrets about leaving all that behind and opening her bookshop in a laid-back coastal town. As the owner of an independent bookshop in a small town she often had chores at weekends, as well as events

This is the first time I have read any of Jan Ellis's work and I am thrilled to be able to supply an honest review in exchange for a copy of this novella.

The main character Eleanor owns a bookshop - so I felt right at home with her character straight away especially as she is near my own age, so a little daydreaming along with reading was in order.

There are many little turns of phrase in the book which made be smile and were very true to life. The writing is also very of the now with references

Utterly gorgeous sequel!

A Summer of Surprises is the follow up novella to An Unexpected Affair, Jan Ellis' debut novella with the fabulous bookstore owner Eleanor and the loveable cast from the original. Ellis writes such real and relatable characters I felt like Eleanor could be someone I would definitely want to be friends with - and I'd love to visit her bookstore and meet Connie and Erika!

I think this had to be my favourite of her books, there were such high points of humour, I also loved th

The perfect romantic read

I really enjoyed my foray into Jan Ellis's West Country setting. A thoroughly enjoyable and cosy book - perfect for summer, perfect for all seasons - packed full of colourful characters... and books!

A Summer of Surprises finds us catching up with Eleanor from An Unexpected Affair. Two years have passed and she's now found her special someone in Daniel, but when his ex-wife appears back on the scene life gets complicated.

Freya is back in town as the architect for a project that will have huge impact on life in the small village. There are lots of pro's and con's for the project but Daniel finds himself caught in the middle of the two women and he appears to be torn. Just to complicate things

Hello readers! My background is in non-fiction publishing and An Unexpected Affair was the first fiction I had written since the age of about seven. Fortunately people enjoyed it, so I wrote A Summer of Surprises, which continues the adventures of my bookselling heroine, Eleanor Mace. Now these novellas are available to enjoy in one luscious, paperback volume! I'm also thrilled to present a brand- ...more
