Best friends cannot keep secrets from each other. That is why Billy has to show Kate, his next door neighbor and bestie what his dad brought him home from work. Kate is interested, but she is in trouble for not doing her chores and has to wait until later to see it. When she finally gets to see the pieces of foil Billy has, she is amazed that it flattens out by itself when either of them crumple it up. Billy’s dad is in the military, and swears Billy to secrecy because he wasn’t supposed to brin ...more

Why I chose this book:
It's a children's adventure that involves a strong female lead and Roswell artifacts - that's why. The author provided a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Two friends evade a CIA agent who is trying to regain an alien artifact.

Foiled was out of this world! The intended audience is middle-grade readers, and as a retired 5th/6th grade ELA teacher, I have read hundreds of middle-grade novels. Some are good, some are bad, and some I don't want to put down. This

This was an average middle-grade book. It had likable characters, despicable villains and quite an adventure through different parts of New Mexico. I was kept entertained all the way through it with Billy and Kate’s antics. They bantered back and forth just like two young kids would and it was fun to experience this kind of honesty and childlike innocence.

It was set in the 1940s and had all these references to things that are a part of our history (especially baseball and comic books). I identif

Received from Author

It's been a while since I've read a middle-grade novel. Reading Foiled I remembered why I used to love the genre.

Lean characters Kate and Billy are best friends and neighbors living on an army base. Kate lives with her mother, who is her only family except for grandfather. Billy's father works for an army and brought home a few souvenirs from his latest job and gave it to him. Billy treasured the craps, not knowing they are actually from a aliens space ship, until agents turn

Great book for middle school and teens! I loved this story, particularly because it was written on an army/airbase that I have been too and discussed issues that I am familiar with. Of course, incredible and fantastic, it was a fun story to read and I worried how it could turn out in a believable manner. The author did an awesome job. Love the characters in this story, especially grandfather! And a Piper Cub to boot. As an aircraft mechanic, retired now, (Air Force and private pilot), I loved th ...more

My Review: This was such a cute book. This is a great little book to introduce your child to historical fiction and I have to say that our 8 year old reviewer loved it. She currently has the flu so she will not be doing any videos right now. But she loved the story and is glad that she had the chance to read it. She said that she thinks this one would be an awesome graphic novel as well.

This is a well-researched, well-written book, and fun to read. Fessler doesn't write down to his target audience, but does write in a style they'll appreciate. I read it first before passing it on to my grand-nephew, who's a voracious reader. I'm anxious to hear his review!
