Fresh, Witty Approach to Friendship with God from a Popular Author and Filmmaker The God of the Bible gets happy, angry, sad. We can bless him. He is jealous, giving, patient, protective, loving. He has character traits, a personality. Yet God is often viewed as an absentee landlord, a distant deity, an enigma with a frowning face; and we carry the defeatist expectation that we will never truly know him. Popular filmmaker Darren Wilson shows from Scripture that this isn't so. Having traveled the world over for his documentaries and witnessed the miraculous more times than he can count, he comes to the Bible with an entirely fresh perspective to show readers how to approach God and how to understand their relationship to--and with--him. At turns humorous and poignant, Wilson gives readers new understanding of some very familiar stories in the Bible, as well as modern-day stories of divine intervention, to show what these reveal about the character and personality of the Father--and how we can enter into a true, collaborative friendship with our Creator. In this updated and expanded edition, Darren includes two entirely new chapters in addition to the content included in the previous edition. Anyway here is a book that takes you through some of the stranger stories of the Bible as in the ones that Sunday School often teach but not in the depth that Darren is about to take you if your willing enough to buy and read this powerful book. Darren as usual is honest in his narrative and will touch a familiarity that you may recognise in part if not all. He talks about some of God's friends and how are well know if you have any knowledge of the Bible and if you haven't its o.k. as you get a introduction that is far better that those from Sunday School as you will have your eyes open to the hidden story that a Father tells His sons and friends rather than the bedtime story many may have heard. So in plain English this is a great book that opens up to reveal the heart of GOD and had certainly helped me to get closer to GOD and I'm wanting to read more from Darren and a lot more of the Bible.
So yes i really do recommend this book to you, for me it's money well spent.
As a fan of Darren Wilson’s movies, I really enjoyed his first book, Filming God, which gave some additional insights and back story to his movies and calling. But this was a big shift for Darren, and it was great to see his friendship with God blossom into a new area. Darren is raw and transparent in his own faith challenges, and this book has an “everyman” perspective that’s refreshing and relatable. I would highly recommend his book to anyone looking for a fresh perspective on the Bible and who God is.
Awesome insight into some complex relationships displayed in the Bible. Darren does an amazing job of taking a step back to look at the bigger picture. This has definitely increased my understanding of pursuing a closer friendship with God.
Beautiful book that delves into the character of God through those He chose to write about in the Bible. Reading it helped me more fully understand God’s love for us and how he pursues us.
If you know Darren Wilson and have seen an of his work then you will want to read this book. I really connected to his thoughts and insights on all the different things discussed in the Bible. The Weird guys chapter was funny. The last chapter talks about Jesus and His heart for us. Stop reading this review and get the book right now.
