My name is Ali, I was known as the goody goody, the nerdy looking girl. Now I'm known as the girl who got stabbed. I was once invisible, now I cant stop the stares and whispers.
I'm no longer the girl I once was, I've changed. I'm hurt, I'm angry, and that anger is pushing the ones close to me away. One person I shouldn't be close to is the person who helps me forget, who doesn't treat me like I'm broken. I'm trying to move forward, but does moving forward mean leaving the person I love behind? Even though part of me blames him? Am I willing to move on to someone else?
J.L. Ostle was born in Antrim, Northern Ireland, now living in Carlisle, England. J.L. Ostle is a full time mother looking after her cute, active little boy.
When she she hasn't got her head stuck in a book or writing, she's watching movies, or doing activities with her friends and their children
What a great second book by Jenna. I love A Simple Change and wow this I loved even more and I am so excited to read more in the future. She has great talent.
( Brief recap) Alison in book one struggles with being in love with her best friend Kyle but remains quite because she can't loose him in her life and being bullied by an evil girl Savannah.
After a make over with the help of her other bff she becomes the girl every guy notices and becomes a popular girl. still being bullied and being threatened to stay away from Kyle things start happening scary things. At the Halloween Dance her first ever she is having a great time but then something happens she is stabbed twice in the back by kyles bff Caitlyn.
This book starts out with her getting ready to go back to school and dealing with the horror of almost dieing. Stuggling to deal with the nightmares and everyone babying her she finds herself not knowing who she is and so desperatly wanting to move on. Caitlyn is in jail but she still denies everything but the attack at the dance, why is she denying that?
Kyle and her drift apart as well as her relationship with her parents and gets close to those you would never imagine. Derek being one of them. With Kyle out of the picture in his eyes. He and Alison start hanging out more and Kyle returns to his old ways, But you can still feel the attraction between Kyle and Alison. The love they have for each other is strong but with everything going on they have pushed each other away. Will their love conguer all or will the trauma of Halloween be too much. Will they loose each other completely or figure out their issue and be together? And how much more can one person take? Tragey does strike again!
I love this story. It really brings out the real situations about bullying, stalking and shows how bad & real it can be. My heart ached for Alison through out both books and I am amazed at how strong she is and I knew it was about time she started fighting back.
I recommend for the mature audience. Some scenes are in depth.
This story is a continuation from A Simple Change, Book 1 in the Change series. This can be read as a standalone story, but for readers best enjoyment, I recommend reading them in order.
Alison, Lex and Kyle's story continues in this installment. Ali is trying to come to terms with her life following a tragedy on Halloween. She is struggling with her feelings, studies, friendships and family.
Her best friends Lex and Kyle, are wanting to help her get through it. Her family is worried she is pushing too hard. She just wants to be treated like normal and try to move on. She is looking for those around her to act like she is a normal teenage girl.
Ali decides she will forgive others for how she has been treated and adds to her friends. Her best friends get concerned for her since one is a bully, and the other has been violent in the past. She just wants to move on and the other friends treat her normal again.
This story has so much emotion and thought. I love the characters and hope to see them again someday! I thought this was a very engaging story.
***This ARC copy was given for review purposes only.
WOW! J.L. Ostle really outdone herself with this one. I didn't think it was possible to top a Simple Change but that's exactly what she did. There's a lot of twists in this story and I was shocked with the ending. There was lots of tears reading this but it was well worth it. I can't wait to see was she gives us next.
I received this copy from the author in exchange of an honest review.
The Hardest of Changes, by J.L. Ostle is part 2 of the authors first series and it did not disappoint! Part 2 starts right where A Simple Change ended. I do not want to say too much but you must read A Simple Change before you read this part so you will know what is going on in The Hardest Change.
After what happened to Ali in the first book, once she gets out of the hospital, everything changes for her. Her parents do not want her to leave her house, her boyfriend Kyle is fearful for her as well, and he starts to distance himself from her, in a way that hurts Ali. Even her best friend Lexi is concerned about how withdrawn her friend has become and it takes them to get into a fight before they realize that they are hurting each other and she is the only one Ali feels comfortable being around.
Aside from all of this, things slowly but surely things start changing for the better but the worst is not over, another part of the plot emerges that no one sees coming, and it has the power to make or break all of them!
As old friendships feel the strain a new friendship emerges that would never have been expected. The plot is continually twisting around, and again the author takes us on a journey of hate, jealousy and all consuming love, and rage, but most importantly a path of healing and redemption as well as a happily ever after!
I gave this book a 5***** star rating and look forward to more by this author!
I love to see an author grow in style between their debut book and their second book. JL Ostle's writing has shown a great deal of growth since her debut novel, A Simple Change. The Hardest of Changes picks up the storyline after the cliffhanger in book one. The book focuses on how people act and react to Ali in the aftermath of her attack. She struggles with how to cope with her life and her friends and family. Her hardest struggle is her relationship with Kyle. One can't be specific about the story without spoiling it for the reader. Suffice it to say there are characters in book one do some very surprising things in book two. Be prepared to be shocked by the turnaround in some characters.
Ms. Ostel weaves a very well plotted story of teenage angst and love. This road to HEA is twisted and some of the potholes along the way nearly derail it. The characters are very realistic and are well played off each other. Lexi is a true gem of a character and through it all sticks by Allison's side. The emotions are realistic and the sex scenes are tantalizing. I look forward to more books by this author.
Wow just wow j.l.ostle did it again another AMAZZZINNNNG!!!! book by such a talented author she has completely outdone herself with the hardest of changes,I definitely think this author is destined for great things with her books and style of writing. The book pulls you in from you open the book to you close it. I was that good I literally couldn't put it down and had it read in only a few short hours, this book allowed me that freedom for a few hours that every mother looks forward to that time when u escape from being a Mammy a nurse a maid a cleaner lol and actually get lost in a world were the characters are so believable that you actually feel like your experiencing everything that's happening within the book. I promise you when u buy this book you will not be disappointed I know I'm counting down the days minutes hours until j.l. ostle presents us with another amazing book. You rock j.l.ostle
Well to say I was patiently waiting for this book would be a big fact lie!! The way we were left hanging in Simple Change I had to know what happened and what was in the future for everyone.
J.L. outdid herself in this one. I was completely sucked into this book. The writing was amazing and the way an author can bring you into the characters so much you actually feel for them is magical! I loved everything in this book, the emotion, all the relationships, the plot and twists that you go through. This was a very emotional read and it honestly will leave you rooting for Als and Kyle!!
I would definitley recommend this book and series to everyone. I am secretly hoping for more of these characters in the futre. Looking forward to what J.L. has next!!
I received a ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review... Wow! Jenna has done it again. Except a whole lot better. One heck of a book. Ali goes through difficult situations after what happened to her. She goes a little wild as she feels that's the only way to deal with the pain. But there's someone after her & she doesn't expect who the person is. This is one heck of a book. Read it in 5 hours. Can't wait to see where Jenna goes from here with Ali's story
This book picks up where A Simple Change ends. Ali is no longer the same girl as she deals with the emotional aftermath of her attack. I like how it didn't sugarcoat not only Ali's struggles, but also the people who love her. It was interesting to see how Ali and her friends grew over the course of the story. The ending was fantastic and not what you would have expected. This is another great page turner that you really don't want to miss. (received an ARC for review)
4.5 Stars So happy to read this book, great conclusion, with many ups and downs in between, to this story of Als, Kyle and Lex. Als is trying to recover from a tragic event physically and mentally. It is not an easy thing to do when everyone treats her differently and she has the nightmares. Als just wants back to normal. Maybe 'changes' will help get Alison back on track, but then again, maybe not. She has to live and learn the hard way.
Wow.... Suspense, mystery and romance all packed in one. This leaves off where Alison got stabbed by Caitline. She is recovering and having nightmares. Savannah her use to be enemy is now a friend... She is kinda distance with her real friends with the turn of events. But something is still off about the whole thing. Something at the back of her mind... What or who is it?

Was lucky to read a Arc of this book, book one I loved, book two was just as gripping if not more. It had me crying and hoping for Alison and Kyle and it didn't disappoint. Well done J L Ostle you've done it again great book
Another great book by JL Ostle. The Hardest of Changes takes us through the aftermath of events from A Simple Change, telling how Alison, her family & friends deal with almost losing her. It also has a completely unexpected twist at the end. Looking forward to seeing what Jenna has next.
I was lucky to receive a ARC, LOVED it. At first I was disappointed with Alison's reaction, but as I read on, I was able to understand her better. Definitely a page turner, just when you think the action was winding down, BOOM. It was a perfect ending.
I absofuckinlutely love this book. Oh the FEELS!!!! This book had me in a blubbering mess before I even hit the 50% mark and it is the 2nd book I've actually cried for. The turn of events in this book made me want to keep reading as I couldn't put the book down.
I literally couldn't put this book down, I stayed up all night reading it. After the first book I was dying to know what happened next and I wasn't disappointed, there were plot twists that honestly I didn't see coming. I now cannot wait to read further books by this great budding new author.
I love this book. I romantic story between Kyle and Alison. I like friendship between Lex and Alison. I like the ending . I can't wait to read more books from this author.
I don't know where to start. I liked the characters they were interesting. At times I felt the kid aspect but overall it didn't feel like a teenage story. There was so much going on it was hard to feel the relationship. I felt bad for the couple because they just wanted to be together. It was a good ending.
I swear she writes pure gold!! I haven't found a book i haven't liked. There's a spin in this book. You know something is going to happen but it shocks you when it does.
OMG J.L Ostle you freaking rock girl. Damn I loved this book. Its got some more twists in it and its got a shocker in that will let you go WTF!!!! Didn't expect that one hahahaha. I cried alot for what poor Ali had to go through but im in awe of her. She is one tough cookie!!! Kyle I wanted to hit up against his head a few times but I got were he came from. Loved this book so much!!!! Will recommend Both books to EVERYONE!!!!!!

Good read. However, felt a bit predictable as you could end up guess who the bad guys were. The ended did leave room for another book with them being at college ;)
