VICKI HITZGES, CSP*

For 15 years, Vicki Hitzges hosted TV news and talk shows at Dallas, TX affiliates for Fox, CBS and ABC. She learned to communicate talking to newsmakers like U.S. Presidents' Carter, Reagan, Clinton and both George and George W. Bush.
As an interviewer, Vicki's favorite celebrity was Bette Midler. The star with the biggest grin—Ron Howard. The most conservative—Ronald Reagan. The most liberal—Al Franken. The most difficult (surprisingly)--Bill Cosby. She excelled in broadcasting and won a Headliner Award from the National Press Club for outstanding reporting ability.
From TV, Vicki entered the business world as a corporate publicist. One of her clients was America's foremost motivational teacher, Zig Ziglar. Zig recognized Vicki's ability to communicate and quickly selected her to be one of the few speakers he would personally mentor.
Within three years, she’d spoken from New England to New Zealand. Clients include Southwest Airlines, Southwestern Bell, Microsoft, Cisco Systems, American Airlines, the CIA, Ernst & Young, Kraft-Nabisco, EDS, Delta Airlines and the C.I.A.
Audiences enjoy Vicki’s insight and energetic delivery. Attitude Is Everything is her first book. She hopes you enjoy it.

* CSP—Certified Speaking Professional. Less than 7% of the speakers who belong to the International Federation for Professional Speakers hold this professional designation. The Federation is comprised of professional speaking associations worldwide.

This is a fast read book crammed with stories, fresh ideas and quotes. It gives information to think about such as ... Common wisdom is to go to your desk with your door closed--if you have one--and do creative work in silence. Is that effective? Turns out, it's not for two reasons and the author gives the Science behind why it's not in a breezy, interesting fashion.
She also takes the fear out of procrastination by encouraging people to start and do things wrong and do things wrong often. (She explains why in a story about an art teacher who demonstrated this principle in class.) That lesson was life-changing for me.
It's a great gift book. It's not on a par of Good to Great. It's not mind-blowing. It IS filled with new information, really good reminders and lots of great quotes which makes it worthwhile and fun to read.

I hate to only give this two stars, but I honestly felt like this books advise did nothing for me. Most of the advice were things I've already learned for myself or through others, so while it may not have done anything for me, I'm not saying it can't be helpful for someone else. I also found one of the examples in chapter 2 about an art teacher kind of wrong. That teacher cheated half his class out of a great life lesson. You'll understand when you read it.
