The Brief American Pageant retains the vivid chronological narrative of its full-length counterpart, focusing on the great public debates that have dominated American history. Engaging features draw students into the narrative, improving comprehension and increasing their interest in the material. "Varying Viewpoints" features explore the scholarly debates surrounding major historical issues, while "Makers of America" essays focus on the diverse ethnic, racial, and activist groups that compose America's pluralistic society.
I have to admit, I found this text a bit dense when covering the material during high school. But revisiting it a few decades later, I found its coverage and breadth fascinating. I'd highly recommend both volumes to any history buffs and anyone simply interested in a high-quality narrative of America's evolution.
Tries to turn everything in a story. I was skeptical of the quality of this book when I read it (I used it twice in High School) and am more so now after reading Lies My Teacher Told Me . Give this one a pass if you can and find a quality history textbook elsewhere.
