TELLING JASE tells the story of Sean Taggert, aka Tag, who has been in love with his best friend and former college roommate Jase Shaw for the last two years and nine months. He’s never told Jase how he feels, though. There were always other people in the way. Up until six months ago, Jase was shacked up with his cheating college boyfriend Marcus. Up until last night, Sean ...more

It was simply bad.

We have a prologue where Sean (Tag) realizes that he is in love with his best friend Jase. Fast forward two years: Sean has a kid from a hook up, and he and his little boy just get abandoned by the mother of the child Lisa. Though Sean and Jase haven’t really stayed in touch in the past two years, Sean feels it’s okay to call his once best friend in the middle of the night and ask him to come over. Because he needs him. And he also feels it’s time to tell Jase how he feels abo

This was a really sweet friends-to-lovers story. It fit perfectly with the prompt; I just wish it could have been a lot longer. Plus, men with tattoos get to me every time!
4.5 stars - What a fabulous free read! I'm a sucker for cute stories and this was just the thing I needed to put a smile on my face. The picture for this story was really cute and the prompt was interesting; Penny did a really great job in writing the perfect love story to match. Jase and Sean were such a cute couple, I would happily have read a full length novel about them! ...more

Okay short. I never really got into it and the characters were really bland for me.

Seemed like it was way too easy for him to just cut Jase completely off. And then jase was way too quick to just forget everything. The whole thing just didn't work for me

Very sweet free romance from smashwords. I was slightly bothered by one of the MCs being called both Sean and Tag, sometimes in the same sentence. Aside from that, it was an enjoyable read.

A pretty basic story. Sweet but nothing remarkable to make it stand out. More a 2.5

Friends 2 lovers.

Nothing surprising.

Great picture, love the tatts. I liked this story a lot, and got a good feel for both of the characters. I did feel like when Sean finally told Jase how he felt, it was a little sudden (despite him having known for a while). It didn't really flow right for me, but as the story continued Ms. Wilder really flushed everything out and even gave us some nice closure with an epilogue.
I love friends-to-lovers stories. I think tattoos are hot on the right guy. And I'm a sucker for stories with kids in them. This had all three. The characters were likable. The story was written well. The author threw in an epilogue so there were no unanswered questions. I hate when books (or short stories) end right when I feel that they are getting started. Thankfully this one was not the case. Everything was wrapped up nicely.

A very enjoyable read.

as much as i like this type of stories, from friends to lovers ,and single dads as main characters this story was only okay. i liked the beggining, but i was seriously bored with the epiloque. the plot was fine and Jace seemed cool but i didn't "fall" neither for him nor for Tag... moreover, the sex scene was....well.....definitely NOT hot. ...more

A nice short that didn't quite work for me. I found it a bit awkward that Sean would go confess to Jase almost immediately after he got abandoned by his fiancee. Even if the relationship between the woman was formed only because she was the mother of Sean's baby. ...more

Sweet, free short, nothing new or groundbreaking and considering the issues they were dealing with it was a very idealistic ending.

It's a nice story that would have been better with shorter epilogue. That chapter is like an outline of a story by itself. All telling without showing. ...more

Recommends it for: Fans of couples with kids, friends to lovers
I love what Penny did with my prompt!
Couples with kids plus tattoos, you can´t ask for anything better, and Penny capture the idea in a sweet, sexy short story.

Sweet story, thanks Penny.

Sometimes a story has so much to show and so much to tell; that when it falls short of either one of them, it comes out like a deep-fried chicken with traces of red blood inside as indication it is not well-cooked. Penny Wilder feeds us that half-cooked chicken in Telling Jase—a novel desperately trying to be a short story.

The prologue is a nest of good and bad. Let me tell you how and why. The story sends us back in time when Sean first realizes he is in love with his bestfriend—that is Jase fo

I love getting recommendations from other bloggers, so when Kara Skinner @ Lover’s Quarrel sung praises about ‘Telling Jase’ I went and got my copy right away.

This was titillating, but also awful. It hit many triggers that I absolutely loathe in contemporary short stories. Also, calling people ‘Babe’ or ‘baby’ makes me cringe, that and a few other words had me wanting to bang my head against the wall when combined with all the other factors I’m about to list.

The whole instant attraction thing -

The story is very sweet. I have to admit that I hated Lisa (the mother) right away; she was a total witch with a "b". Never having wanted her child, I don't understand the attitude, but she wouldn't be the first person that felt that way; It was the way she went about telling Sean- she called him while she was away in New York, supposedly trying to get auditions for the theater, and on top of that she was drunk! Such a cowardly thing! But, I'm betting I was supposed to hate her from the get-go. ...more

I really like reading about hot dudes with kids.... somethin about bein a good dad makes a guy so much more attractive lol, this one was a short, kinda cute read. I kind of got confused with all the "Tag/Sean" flip flop, I mean I know his name was Sean Taggert, but can't you just pick one and one be a nickname and just use one or the other... in the beginning I didn't know who was who and who we were talkin about.... I got there eventually though but I didn't like it.
Sean and Jase were good frie
Sean been in love with his best friend Jase. 3 years ago Sean had been in-love with Jase but Jase had a boyfriend. One drunken night Sean slept with a a women and of course she fall pregnant to do the right thing sean stayed with her. BUt now fastforward 3 years his ex wants nothing to do with him or their son. He needs to see his best friend hasn't seen him in a year or so now he wants him back and to tell him how he feels and why he left. So this story is about reconnecting with best friends a ...more
I'm being generous. I don't know if the rating is justified.

There is a lot of potential here. This story is sooo short and in reality just a few scenes showing how 2 friends becomes lovers. It could easily have been fleshed out to a full length novel starting in college and ending after the scenes in this book. This would give the author a chance to flesh out the characters a bit and really build the chemistry between Jase and Sean. I would also have liked to see the interaction the MC's had wi

I thought this was a sweet story about two former good friends who discover their love for one another. The thing that I didn't enjoy was the flip flopping of a particular character's name. In one sentence he would be referred to as Sean and then in the next as Tag (the character's full name is Sean Taggert, so Tag is his nickname). I would have preferred if one name had been used throughout because going back and forth was confusing.

Short story about Sean and Jase. Sean has fancied Jase since college, but end up with Lisa after he gets her pregnant at a drunken party. The story really starts when Lisa dumps Sean and Cody (their kid) and Sean decides its finally time to tell Jase how he feels.

I liked that Jase didn't rush into things with Sean, he takes the time to make sure they're both making the right decisions for themselves and for Cody.

This was well written and enjoyable.

Sean impressed me. He's determined to do the right thing even when it means sacrificing him self. He jumps into fatherhood with no reservations and tries to make a go of a relationship with a woman he doesn't love for his son's sake. He isn't holding back the truth either. Once Jace arrives he confesses all. Jace is smart enough to take time to really digest what it would mean to commit to not only Sean but to his son Cody. I looking for more from this author.

Cute, short. I wish it could have been longer since I believe the author would have made a story that was much more complex and appealing. I do believe that the story as is, is very good and enjoyable.

A nice little read. A little honesty to yourself and others sometimes pays off. Sean's partner has just left him with their two year old son, when he calls Jase, his college roommate for support. What Jase doesn't know is that Sean has been in love with him since their senior year. ...more
