I love Ruthz SB's books. I think I should read at least one every day, just to remind myself of the important things, as World does BeBe in the stories. I received What is a Family? as a gift from the author for an honest review. This is my second book by Ruthz SB. I have to say a book such as this one is a welcomed sight in today’s world and long overdue. Here we find Balu with his trusty friend, World as he is learning about families in school. Balu has so many friends from diversified backgrounds and gets confused as to what makes a ‘family’. The book goes on to portray an array of families of different makeups, being adoptions, divorce, raci ...more

When Bebe is first asked "what is a family" the immediate response was "Mother, Father, kids".. but the book explores many different familial situations including adoption, same sex parents, various races/ethnicity and the idea that family is family despite not living in the same house. Children are faced with these issues and sometimes they are not explained properly. This book would help children to understand that just bec ...more
