Highlander Enchanted

Rate this book
Lady Isabel de Clare is on the run – and out for revenge against the man she blames for her brother’s death in the Crusades and her father’s descent into madness. When she finds Black Cade, she isn’t expecting him to protect her from the English fiancé she’s fleeing. She also doesn’t believe the tales of fae and magic, until she uncovers a secret one night while under Black Cade’s protection.

At first intrigued by the soft-spoken yet strong Isabel, Black Cade is soon faced with a difficult decision: protect her against her enemies despite knowing she’s there to kill him or leave her to deal with an abusive man out to steal her title and gold. When his secret is revealed, he decides to trap the beautiful Englishwoman in a loveless marriage to guarantee her silence and his life.

Neither expects their hearts – or lives – to be threatened by the union, until danger breaks out in the Highlands, pitting fae against human, English against Scottish, husband against wife.

Will the love of Isabel and Cade be enough to bring peace the Highlands?

I breathe stories. I dream them. If it were possible, I'd eat them, too. (I'm pretty sure they'd taste like cotton candy.) I can't escape them - they're everywhere! Which is why I write! I was born to bring the crazy worlds and people in my mind to life, and I love sharing them with as many people as I can.

I'm also the bestselling, award winning, internationally acclaimed author of over sixty titles and counting. I write speculative fiction in multiple subgenres of romance and fantasy, contemporary fiction, books for both teens and adults, and just about anything else I feel like writing. If I can imagine it, I can write it!

I live in the desert of southern Arizona with a pack of spoiled dogs and Tubbs, the Godfather cat who rules them all.

So amazing!! Lizzy specializes in series, but her stand alone novels are just as good. In the space of one novel, she has created a magical Highlander version of pride and prejudice. The chemistry between Isabel and Cade is so tense; I had a hard time putting this book down. The character development is detailed without being overwhelming. This story would make an amazing movie.

Loved this!!!!! It was light in the romance department and heavy on the action. I loved Cade and his people and the myth they embodied. I love Isabel's strength and ability to learn from her mistakes. Action packed and emotional. I would love to see more of the characters in this book!

I don’t think Lizzy is capable of writing anything less than a 5 star read!!
I truly love Lizzy’s trilogy’s, but this standalone didn’t disappoint.
This book was a quick read, but still packed a punch. I will never get bored of transporting myself into any of Lizzy’s stories, they are always magical and well written.

An interesting medieval romance with magic woven in. The author kept referring to persons as stewarts (not to be confused with the Stewarts of Scotland.). I really think those particular people should have been referred to as stewards, considering their particular jobs. She was consistent through the book, using that spelling.

A refreshing Enchanted welcomed respite (from a marathon read of a truly thrilling mystery series). 5 stars to the author for staying True to her genre, and believe me, there are many fakes out there designed to distort the Timeline and land a historical reader into Time Warp limbo.

Fascinating

I liked the book. The characters I loved. This magic theme blended well in the story. The ending was endearing and has a whole I really enjoyed reading this book. I will probably look for more books by the author.

This book had me hooked. It's fantastic, well written and has a great storyline. Cade and Isobel are two different people who come from different places. They are so much more than meets the eye. A story filled with action and magic. It's a must read.

It was a good read to pass the time. Not enough depth of characters and some of the story was over the top, but all in all, it held my interest until the end.

Kinda bummed with how short it was. No real romance or anything but fighting and what seemed like the same sentences over and over. Also all the characters.

Great book. Loved the Scottish language used in the story. I can almost hear it's sound.

The story has a different element I haven't come against before

Power over the land, sea and air. The Heroine has a dasterly man after her who wants her land and gold.

Highlander Enchanted has an interesting and engaging plot with plenty of mystery and intrigue. The characters are well-developed. Cade is especially well-drawn and the reader has an opportunity to learn a lot about his struggles, the good he does, and the control he has over his dark magic side. Isabel is a bit more of a conundrum, one with a big heart that she doesn't always listen to. She is quick to judge but very strong and capable in most cases and makes the best of her situation even when odds and people are against her.

The highlands, the seillie magic, the manner and dress of the day are described in enough detail to immerse the reader in the story. And some of the secrets held by Isabel keep you guessing almost until the end.

If I have one complaint, it is that Cade and Isabel do not spend nearly enough time together and their relationship is rather slow to develop. Their romance seemed very secondary to the plot and I always want the romance front and center.

I received this Arc in exchange for a review. I liked this story by Ms Ford. It was a different from her other books. I instantly liked Cade, Isabel not so much. I didn't like how she blamed Cade for her family's downfall, war is never kind and I felt that she needed to grow up and realize this. Cade had darkness in him, but he still had a pure heart to me. I was happy she was able to find peace and help her new clan. I hope we'll get to learn more about John's story. This story didn't have all the action that I'm used to with her books. It was a very nice love story and an enjoyable read!!!

Lizzy creates beautiful worlds on the fly for her books and they are always so detailed that you can visualize yourself in the characters shoes.

She writes engaging books that are fabulous for an afternoon escape and this is no exception, I tried to drag this read out to a week but could only manage two days.

This book is lovely as there is action and adventure, magic, mystery and a whole lot of self determination and love. It's a really enjoyable read for anyone who loves the above and I thoroughly recommend it.

This is the first book from Lizzy that I've given less than 5 stars. It wasn't the writing of the Scottish words wrongly, although that did take me a little bit of time to get around but I felt it wasn't written as well as all her other work. Lizzy writes beautifully. That being said, it was okay and a quick read so it's worth a read. I just don't think this will be one I re-read again from her.

As you can see by my rating, I loved this book. I loved how the two main characters acted and reacted like real people for each situation that they were in. Isabel and Cade became one of my favorite couples because they weren't "insta-perfect". There were secrets on both sides and struggles for them both to come into their own. I loved that while magic was an important part of the story, it wasn't *the* story.

I would recommend this book to any of my friends.

It's Lizzy Ford. What else do you expect?
It is awesome as always. It is a historical romance, and I am not much of a fan, so I would prefer most of her books above this. But this, as usual, is no less than 5 star. Absolutely well written, sexy and cute characters, and good plot. Love her books.
Please keep writing.

Highlander Enchanted by Lizzy Ford is a terrific story line turned into a great book. It could have used another read through before publishing, some of the characters were misidentified, but over all this book is well done in a style that is uniquely Ford. The characters are indeed enchanted, as well as enchanting. 2016 is off to a good start.

What an amazing story! I loved every minute of reading about Cade and Isabel's lives and adventures! If you love the Highlands, adventure, mystery, suspense, hot Scottish men and romantic love, all sprinkled with magic, then this is the book for you. There were enough twist and turns in this story to keep my engrossed right to the end. A must read!!
