Nick Butterworth was born in London and grew up in a sweet shop in Essex. He worked for various major graphic design companies before becoming a full-time author and illustrator. Among his picture books are Thud!, QPootle5, Jingle Bells, Albert le Blanc, Tiger and The Whisperer, winner of the Nestlé Gold Award. But he is best known for his stories about Percy the Park Keeper, which have sold more than 9 million copies worldwide. Percy has also appeared in his own television series.
The Rescue Party is a story about a rabbit, who falls down a well and in the end manages to escape on her own. In the meantime the park keeper who is on his day off organises a rescue with the help of all the other animals he can find. Its hard to get excited about this book but it is a 'nice' book and does introduce some of the different animals one might find in any British Park. It also advocates the importance of teamwork in a crisis even if it (the teamwork) doesn't resolve the problem in this particular instance.
I suppose the moral of the story is that sometimes if you try to be the quickest, best or in this story jump the highest, it can land you in trouble. Another view would be that if you are in trouble, use your own initiative rather than relying on a council employed park keeper on his day off and a gang of small wild animals to save you. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely convinced that either are particularly useful messages for children but I am also prepared to accept that my opinion may be a little harsh. After all, not every book can or should be boom, boom, bang, bang from start to finish. As a reading and story book I think this would probably be suitable for key stage 1.
We're so proud of you for reading "The Rescue Party" all by yourself! What a wonderful story about Percy and his friends working together to help someone in need. You learned that when we help others, we feel good inside and make the world a kinder place. Just like Percy's animal friends, you can be a helper too - maybe by sharing your toys with friends or helping Mommy and Daddy with little jobs around the house. Reading makes you smarter every day, and we love watching you discover new stories. Keep up the amazing work, our little bookworm!

The perfect day for doing nothing by Percy the park keeper is interrupted when a little rabbit fells into a well. Will they be able to save the little rabbit? An adventure book with a surprise fold-out page.
This was my first Percy the Park Keeper book and I really liked it. The pictures are cute. The story is interesting and completely suitable for kids and you can still manage to teach them a thing or two, quite subtly. I am looking forward to read it to my niece. I'm sure she will love it.
I loved this tale of a rabbit who falls down a well and the attempt to rescue him by Percy the park-keeper and his animal friends. It has a humorous twist at the end.
We love our Percy the Park Keeper stories and this is such a funny one! A lovely story about a bunny who needs rescuing, with an interesting pull out in the middle.
Percy the Park Keeper stories are delightful and this one is in keeping with the book series, the animals all come together to try and rescue the rabbit who has fallen down a well not knowing that she has already escaped and his helping with the rescue, a feel good book with lovely illustrations.
Proceed the park keeper was taking a day off, but when one of the bunnies fell into trouble, Percy hurried to the rescue. When all his animal friends were helping him with the rescue, a funny thing happened. Very cute story with adorable illustrations.
Percy has to try and rescue a rabbit from a well. I can't help but wonder what a deep well is doing in the middle of the park. Better hurry and cover it, Percy!
