It was one of those days. I had just finished the second book in the Gemini Rising series and sent it to the editor. After making notes about the next book, I breathed a sigh of relief and checked my e-mail. There was The Last Keeper's Daughter along with a request that I read Rebecca Trogner's latest book and write a review.

I downloaded the PDF expecting to save it to my Kindle. I did something wrong and it ended up in 'my documents'. I opened it, thinking I'd just read the first chapter. Thre

I know what you're thinking. (Yes, you there, with a skeptical eyebrow raised.) Do we really need another vampire novel where the young, seemingly fragile human girl (who's much stronger than she looks) manages to break through the icy heart (who's much more vulnerable than he looks) of the 2000-year old vampire? And the answer is undoubtedly YES. If we're talking about Rebacca Trogner's The Last Keeper's Daughter, that is. Sure, the basic idea is familiar within the genre, but Trogner isn't wri ...more

Walter Ayers, the last son of one of Virginia’s old money families, owns a massive home on a sprawling estate, complete with it’s own cemetery and a whole wing that is forbidden to enter. Its summer, but a fire burns in the secret library’s hearth for the pleasure of a guest. Walter is a member of a secret order, the ‘keeper’ assigned to the King of North America, and Krieger Barnes has come to hear an odd request. The aging man is dying and fears his clandestine life will bring harm to his daug ...more

There are many new novels to choose from these days about my favorite fanged character, the vampire, and I often spend days sorting through new titles, reading blurbs and samples, trying to choose my next purchase. I scanned through the blurb on The Last Keeper’s Daughter by Rebecca G. Trogner and thought it sounded interesting, so I read a couple pages from the prologue and that was it. I’m totally hooked. I love it when the author can bring across danger in a powerful vampire and I knew from t ...more

I was on book tour for The Last Keeper’s Daughter back in February with an excerpt and giveaway. After reading the excerpt I knew I wanted to read this book!

“Do you want me, Lily?”
“I don’t know what I want.” It was the honest truth.
“I could force you.” He held up his hand. “I could bend your body to my will with one finger.”
She wasn’t afraid that he’d hurt her. “That’s not what you want.”
His arm fell to his side. “True.” He looked sad.
She hoped he didn’t expect a response, because she was too st

I'd probably categorise The Last Keeper's Daughter as more of a Paranormal Mystery as opposed to a Paranormal Romance, but I'll come to that in a bit.

The book opens with Walter Ayres, a 'Keeper', speaking - pleading - with the man whose secrets he keeps - Krieger - the Vampire King, forever frozen in time at around thirty years of age, and battle hardened from his Roman upbringing.

Fearing his time on this earth is short, he begs Krieger to take care of his daughter, Lily, after he is gone, and

Intro: To the outside world Lily Ayres is the privileged daughter of an old moneyed family. She is young, beautiful, and a talented horsewoman. All of which are enviably qualities, but few know that beneath this thin veneer of societal perfection lies a deeply troubled young woman. For Lily rarely speaks and is incapable of normal, human interaction.

Rebecca Trogner's debut novel introduces a new and intriguing cast of supernatural to the vampire sub-genre. Her heroine, Lily, is an enigma from the beginning. A fragile and damaged young woman, Lily is constantly growing and evolving throughout the story, as she is brought into a vampire king's court. Trying to find out where her father has gone and why he'd give her to this vampire king is part of the mystery Lily must solve.

In fact, mystery and growth are key elements in what is the first b

Wow! I adored this book! This was different from anything I've read, even though one may categorize it as a vampire book. It is soooo much more than that. Lily is a strange, broken character, and getting inside her head was a fascinating experience.

Her family's dark and twisted past unravels slowly throughout the plot as we try to figure out why her father and two other keeper's have been gruesomely murdered. Everything from the mountainous forests her estate rests on, to the varied Others from

Something completely new and different. I always love when I come across a paranormal book that approaches what has been written about over and over again in a completely new way. Rebecca is an excellent author and a master of her skill. Her book reads incredibly well and is written at a great pace. She weaves and intricate web giving you little by little the information needed to find out more about your main characters.

The main characters are absolutely adorable. Especially Lily is a character

SERENA'S REVIEW

The Last Keeper’s Daughter is a strange book; I’m not sure myself if that’s a positive or a negative description! There’s a lot of potential and a lot of great characters and new creatures, something that makes the story truly fascinating but somehow, it’s lacking. I hate saying that; I know how Rebecca Trogner, the author, will have slaved over this story, but I felt like a big piece of the puzzle is missing.

I’d give a brief synopsis of what happens here, but it’s all a

The Last Keeper's Daughter follows a woman named Lily. Her family is very rich and live in a mansion, but that doesn't mean that Lily's life has been easy. She isn't like other people. She can remember everything she has seen and heard, so she keeps contact with other people to a minimum. Her childhood was difficult since she was very sick and would have died. But there are parts of her past

OMG, I don't know why, but this year is filled with fantastic book! So you see me coming with this comment: The Last Keeper's Daughter was phenomenal! Well some of you might say that I am exaggerating, but if you are fans of paranormal romance, this book is a must!

I'm a cover whore and I must admit that I almost refuse the review request for this book, because I wasn’t attracted to the cover. Then I read the blurb and I knew immediately that there was something new to discover!

How would you feel if you ended up in a world that you didn’t even know existed? On top of that, you felt more comfortable there? Lily Ayres is going through just that. She has been practically alone all of her life. Then one day, she ends up with Krieger, the Vampire King. That is the doing of her father, Walter Ayres. He was the last in a long line of Keepers for the Vampire King. He went to Krieger and asked him to take Lily as his and protect her. He was sick and knew he was dying, but he ha ...more

Enthralling Vampire mystery. Intriguing and tantalizing from the very first page! I was grabbed by this novel and couldn't put it down until I had the entire story and the mysteries figured out. The vampires are inspiring and the other creatures tickled my imagination in a way that partly made me want to hide under the covers, but mostly made me want to turn the page and devour some more.

There are so many fantastic characters in this book. It is hard to narrow it down to who are my favorites. I

What a great new addition to the paranormal community. I really enjoyed the story and the characters, they were intriguing and it was convincing.

The beginning was a little rocky for me, I had trouble getting into it. It is definitely a book worth sticking with however because by the 20% mark, I was starting to really lean forward and get into it.

The characters are very complex, I never know exactly how they will rea

The Last Keeper's Daughter had everything I love about a vampire story and is told in such a beautiful way.

Trogner tells a complex, woven tale of mystery and intrigue about a world where the "others" are not readily seen by humans. Though, not a historical it still has that rich aged quality that a story about a being that's lived for generation upon generation should.

The relationship between Krieger and Lily develops at a believable pace and is driven forward by the mystery.

WHOLLY COW! This is a fantastic book and I have discovered a new favourite author in Rebecca Trogner. The Last Keeper’s Daughter was a unique book with interesting twists and always kept me wanting more. I am extremely glad this is a series and cannot wait to see where the story goes in book two. The writing style of Ms Trogner has such an easy flow and the characters were very intriguing that I couldn’t put it down.

I received this book from LoP for an honest review.

Summary: Lily Ayres is a young woman who is someone that does not "belong" in the normal human world. Her father, Walter, is a Keeper; someone who works with vampires. Unbeknownst to Lily, Walter makes a deal with Krieger, the vampire King of North America. Walter hands Lily over to Krieger. Since Lily was little, she never felt like she belonged in the human world, but since the day that Krieger took her under his wing, she feels like she belon

Recommends it for: Fans of vampires, mysteries, and other paranormal creatures.
Rebecca Trogner answered a call last year to pitch her book to me during the Twelve Days of Christmas event on my blog. This is the only time of the year I take requests for reviews, and buy the books that capture my attention. Well, her pitch and sample snagged a purchase. I loved the intrigue building behind the opener, and I had to know more. Let's get going about the rest of the story, eh?

From a Reader's Perspective:

I am always up for a good book that crosses genres and is hard to define. This book looked like it would be a good fit for me, a Paranormal Romance that is also a Mystery. After reading this book, I am not sure that I agree with the Romance portion. It felt more Urban Fantasy/Mystery to me. There is definite paranormal aspects, and there is some romantic aspects, but there was no HEA at the end of this story. And an Happily Ever After is one of the primary criteria for me for Paranormal Romance. ...more

First I will say I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP)..... and I HONESTLY LOVED IT!

Well, while it is another vampire story...... which I LOVE by the way, it is truly unique as compared to other modern day vampire stories. I will not give details and a book description because you can read that here on Goodreads or Amazon.... but rather I will stress how much I loved the setting and the characters of this book. First I love that they are in the mountains of Virginia and liv

“The Last Keeper’s Daughter” by Rebecca Trogner is a genre breaker that seeps into fantasy, humor, romance, adventure, and epic thriller. Lily has always been unique and suffered from severe social disorders at best without medical explanation. Given shelter and protection, from what she knows not, a man named Krieger takes Lily into his elaborate home where she discovers the world is muc ...more

I know I know another vampire book! I didn’t even know. You see because Momma Says Read accepts every review I don’t bother reading the blurbs anymore. I know it must be read so I can give you all my honest opinion. So when I was introduced to Krieger I was quite surprised. I will say this is not your typical vampire book and is definitely worth a read.

I love stories with original characters and The Last Keeper’s Daughter definitely falls into this category. The author created a unique world and a story that held my interest from beginning to end. By avoiding the typical vampire story troupes, the book really stood out for me in a crowded genre.

I was really interested in reading this story. I always enjoy the concept of the secret paranormal world coexisting with our own. And in this story the author has built a very interesting one.

The main characters of Lily and Krieger were interesting and well developed. Lily has learned to copy with her world and how to exist but not really live within it. When she is forced into Kreiger's world after her father disappears is when she really begins to come alive.

Kreiger is a king in his world and
