My boss just destroyed a fifty-million-dollar contract to protect me.
This morning his biggest client flew in, the owner of the largest oil company in the country.
I heard them arguing through the office doors, then I heard my name.
Later, I stepped into the elevator for lunch and a hand shot through the doors before they closed.
The client stepped inside and hit the emergency stop.
He cornered me and smirked, “Now I see why he said no.”
I froze.
Suddenly, then the elevator doors were being pried open.
My boss dragged him out by the collar while he screamed about canceling the deal.
But my boss only looked at me and growled,
“Did he touch you?”

Great Read!!
It was great! A perfect mixture of mystery, detective work and romance! When I thought the book was going to end, it kept going and surprised me! I loved it!

I'm not sure there a plot here. There's sometimes a plot, then there's some OW drama, there's a bunch of toxic jealousy.
It opens with Yuna arguing with her family. Dad, Step mom, and step sister. SS is getting married and Yuna skips the engagement party. SS tells Yuna she's just jealous, dad steps in and tells Yuna she should've been the bigger person, but then we find out that it's the anniversary of Yuna's sister's death. Daddy totally forgot and it seems the only one that cares is Yuna.
The whole setup paints the family as neglectful of Yuna, but in an way over the up kind of way.
Yuna decides, fuck it, gonna go get a drink. She ends up hooking up with who she thought was a rando, but turns out it's her future boss and she has no idea obviously.
But now there's the family restaurant and it's in danger. Evil step mom tells Yuna now that she's left to the opposite coat, she won't have any belongings back home, rights to the restaurant, and basically just says have a nice life away from us.
Yuna shows up to her new job that apparently she did no research on and is immediately hated by her supervisor. Supervisor is the OW, or better described as she has the hots for her boss and boss doesn't reciprocate. Well, not until he can use her to make Yuna jealous anyways.
Yuna reconnects with a law school friend who is now a detective that drives a very expensive car. Detective is predictably interested in Yuna. Obviously detective hates her boss. Boss hates the detective
Suddenly Yuna's being stalked, she receives a creepy doll and apparently has been receiving texts. No mention or buildup to that, just suddenly by chapter 14 she has a stalker.
She enlists her detective friend for help, that escalated shit. Then her boss tells her he needs something out of his office, she finds a very detailed file of her and her family, and some crime lord so obviously being the dutiful law clerk she is snaps pictures. Then her stalker texts her, so she takes her phone and hands it to detective friend. Detective friend has her sign waivers to access her phone and finds the files she snapped. Suddenly people are coming to kill her. Now she moves in with her boss.
*as a side note- her boss investigated her before their hookup, so I'm pretty sure the hookup was a setup.
* I almost DNF'd at the closet scene. I was actually rooting for the killers to take them both out
Oh, remember the family restaurant? Apparently Daddy took out a bunch of money against it to pay for evil step mother's medical bills? How dare he try to pay for his wife's medical treatments. No idea what stepmother is sick with, because this is the first time it's mentioned. Anyway Daddy dearest needs Yuna to save the family restaurant by going on a date with an old family friend. Yuna agrees, which pissed off her boss. Yuna goes to lunch and family friend is there first, he ordered half the menu apparently. Yuna's not into it, but FF doesn't care cause he believes he's her fiance. Boss decides to show up to the restaurant and starts making snide remarks about FF's weight, and all the food her ordered.
That's when I quit. The randomness that is this story line, along with the fact that every charecter sucks. Boss, Yuna, Yuna's family, Yuna's BFF, Detective...every single one.

I admit I have read, perused or skimmed way too many of these types of books. Currently, I am in a mood that makes it difficult to overlook the careless nonsensical story mishaps ...
Chapter 2: FMC spent the night with MMC. She wakes up at 5:41am and leaves to catch a flight that's scheduled to depart at 7am. This is Los Angeles. And she still has to go back to her family's home, since that is where she's ordered the car. ... Has the author ever heard about or contemplated LA traffic? FMC would have had to complete all that communting in 15 minutes to check into her flight on time. Even if we give her the full 79 minutes from leaving the MMC's penthouse to the flight's departure ... she's still not making it ...
Chapter 4: MMC accuses FMC to have applied for the job to follow him after their one-night stand. Well, that night was only one week earlier. Applications and hiring for such sought after positions typically take way longer than one week ... MMC did have a point, though, in asking how FMC hadn't known that he was CEO: Not only was that indeed a well-known public fact. They also had known each other previously. MMC had helped FMC's friend in a previous domestic abuse case. Honestly, how could FMC not have known that he was the CEO of that law firm?
Chapter 7: FMC observes MMC in court acting as a defense lawyer. While we are told that defendant is a whistleblower, the case is still a labor dispute, which is typically tried as a bench trial. The author describes it as if it were a riveting criminal case tried in front of a jury. ... One with a very unprepared prosecutor ..

"It wasn’t my plane’s fault. It was either mechanical failure or Geoffrey’s people.” - Pardon me? I am actually not sure if a plane can be at fault, but if it can, I think a mechanical failure would be just that: the plane's fault.
".. The vending machine here tastes like someone brewed it through a sock.” ... Didn't think one would drink the actual machine ...
This entire book is full of such non-sensical sentences. It is grating on me.

Incredible
Such a beautiful love story about complicated individuals unknowingly seeking to find the missing piece that will make them feel whole again. Anthony is a strong, powerful and arrogant man who has met his match in Yuna, an independent , strong-willed and equally stubborn woman. The tension between them is off the hook!

I would actually rate this at 4.5 out of 5 stars. The story of Attorney Anthony Vance and Legal Clerk Yuna, goes through so many stages .. lust, jealousy, peril, mystery and love. Both have past traumas that have affected them in different ways, but through it all they have found each other. They were easy to root for. I liked this one even better than the first book.

I'm in love! This story didn't just feel like another cliché billionaire book. There was passion, mystery and suspense! I felt the emotions, I related with the characters, it made me laugh, cry, root for Yuna and Anthony...
It was fun, thrilling and strangely comforting. You're a master-class storyteller. Looking forward to your next books! ❤️
