I didn't ask to have my heart broken, but whatever. All I had to do was quit my job and start over.

Which is how I ended up teaching college classes by day and playing in my band by night.

Nothing is going to break me again. Nothing is going to distract me from my goals. Not even some sexy young college girl.

But when I get locked in a stairwell with the hottest librarian

4.5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I always hate a good novella because in the end I want more. I really liked Jim's story and seeing him move on. I really liked how Jim and Emma came together slowly and though there was instant attraction it wasn't instant love. The story was very well written and flowed perfectly. I don't feel like anything was missing or rushed but because I grew to love the characters I want more!

A nice easy read. Jim is a 27 years old music teacher but wants to be a rock star. He loves to read and sneaks in a private room to read. Emma is a student and works at the schools library. Emma is studying pre med and is doing anything for her parents to be proud of her. Jim and Emma meets in the library. The conflict of Jim having an affair with a student will jeopardized his teaching career. They have so much in common. Loved this short story. No cliffhangers.

Twenty-seven year old Jim, son of two hippies, has been in a band with his high school mates and working without much purpose for years, until heartbreak causes him to quit his job managing a cafe, and he ends up adjunct professor of music theory at Temple University, thanks to an old friend of his father's. Although it wasn't his dream to teach, Jim loves it.

Twenty-one year old Emma, daughter of two doctors, is midway through college and studying pre-med, trying to please her parents by followi

This book was a bit different from this author's usual books. I have read many of her books. Really was relaxing and smooth read
I really enjoyed this was so different than billionaire gets poor woman. The couple, Jim and Emma, are so cute together
I feel at times that Jim is like a little boy trying to get his way. Stopping Emma from achieving her goals in life.
Good vacation read.

This is my second time to read a novel for B.B Hamel & I'm so glad to have the apportunity to do that... She is a good writer with a great style in writing that is capturing & keeps you reading untill you finish the book..
Taught.. is a simple, realistic & great student-teacher story... it is about Jim who we have met in the previous book Undersold.. he is a handsome, nice & talented guy who has been painfully rejected by the girl who worked with him.. he is trying to pull himself

I received a free copy of Taught when I signed up for author B.B. Hamel’s mailing list. It’s the third book of hers that I’ve read, and I really enjoyed it. This short little novella is part of her City’s Secrets series, which I have not read, and did not need to read to understand what was going on.

Jim is an adjunct professor at Temple University. He teaches music theory by day, and at night he plays with his band and reads sci-fi novels. He usually reads in the same quiet room at the library a

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review. This was a great storyline and very different from B.B.'s other novels. I didn't grab my attention at first and to some extent dragged a bit. A few things I enjoyed was the banter between Jim and Emma in the stairwell as well as when they were texting. Very playful, funny and believable. It really wasn't until chapter 7, after the first two non-kiss moments, finally the third time was the charm. Would like to have read more about Jim's story ...more

Jim and Emma meet at the library when she finds him in a staff only room and attempts to toss him out. That is the only Spoiler I am revealing. Pretty tame one. Jim is a music teacher at a college and Emma is taking Med classes. She stresses to make the best grades possible so as to not disappoint her parents. Jim is part of a band and his first love is making music. The two meet, then meet again and begin to see each other. Hesitantly at first due to the student / teacher issue, which could cos ...more

A short and sweet novella that is different that what I have read from BB before.... Jim is reading along in the library at the college he works at when a young lady comes into the same room as him and tries to kick him out and he really isn't sure why. He's been reading in this for months on end with no one ever coming to tell him he's not suppose to be in that room. Emma lets him stay after she thinks shes been too harsh on him. She will never see him again and he wasn't hurting anything.... E ...more

Jim & Emma, turned out to be a sweet and caring couple. A nice story that actually gives a sense of reality, with Emma being a down to earth girl, not falling straight in the arms of Jim, a hot rocker teacher. Although it has a slight vibe of forbidden, it doesn't point on it, but actually follows a careful and slow rithm. It hasn't made my blood boil, but it was nice to actually read something more realistic (not all the boys are dominant and straight on action, knowing exactly what to do, ...more

I have read several of this author's books and this one was particularly fun and really sweet. A student/librarian and a musician/teaching assistant at a college meet, bond and fall in love. Fear of breaking rules, different life goals and a small age difference come between them briefly, but in the end chemistry and other things in common draw them together and we get a tender HEA.
It was ok...nothing too complicated or special...just a gentle, cute love story with some fun supporting character

This is a short novella and it is a wonderful, sweet romance. It is about Jim (a music teacher) and Emma (a pre-med student and also works at the library) the two meet at the library when Emma finds Jim in a staff employees room and attempts to remove him out of the staff room, from here the attraction starts. I found the story-line well written and the developing attraction between Jim and Emma is well thought out. The characters are extremely likeable and the love scenes is intimate and tender ...more

Slightly different then the other books she has written. I enjoyed the change and also the story line. Jim seems like an average good looking professor who had his heart broken. Emma is your typical college student, who is busy with school and work having a social life doesn't really exist. I love how B.B. Hamel wrote their characters meeting and not quite liking each other but still ending up meeting again and changing their opinions of each other. Hamel is very talented and I always love readi ...more

I really loved this story. It was so great to see Jim again and to see him move on and meet Emma. I also loved how even though their attraction was instant, it wasn't instant love. The characters are not the usual 'perfect' kind of characters but more relateable. The story built really nicely and had a great flow. Unlike the usual novella it didn't feel rushed or like it was missing anything.

Oh Jim...never had teachers like you at College. A music teacher, in a band AND loves to read (my obsession ) what more can a girl wish for. He meets Emma whilst he is reading (what a perfect idea). Instant wow when they see each other. She is a student but is their relationship Forbidden? Teacher/Student thing. Loved how their friendship/ love developed and it was a hot read too. Fantastic

This was a short simple, sweet love story and the author did an exceptional job with this novelette. I connected very easily with the main character Emma as well as Jim. The story built really nicely and had a great flow.  I really liked how Jim and Emma met then progress slowly even though there was instant attraction it wasn't instant love. The reader gets to witness a sweet and budding relationship as well as hot, steamy sex ;).

I was gifted this book for an honest review. I have never read this author before and his story kept me captivated until I was finished. Jim struggles with the fact he is a teacher and Emma is a student, Emma struggles with the fact she don't need the distraction of a boyfriend. This a romantic story of two people that have so much in common and their attraction to each other is undeniable. This is a must read

I liked Emma and Jim's story and it is very well portrayed.

Emma and Jim's beginning is slow and progresses naturally even though they have an instant attraction. I appreciated their awareness of the teacher/student dating dynamic. It made their relationship grounded and mature. They compliment each other and fill in the gaps of support they both need.

You won't be disappointed in this book.

Quick but Good:
I received a free copy of Taught when I signed up for B.B. Hamel’s mailing list, and I really enjoyed it. Although this is part of her City’s Secrets series, which I have not read, it read as a standalone. It's a sweet, cute story with engaging characters that's well written for the short read.

I really, really enjoyed this novella. Great characters, great story, hot sex scenes. There is always something about the forbidden teacher/student affair that just draws me. I really like the taboo element. Jim was a character, and I warmed up to Emma as she lightened up through the book. Could not put it down, so read it all in one sitting. Well done BB Hamel. A super effort made a super book.
I had a harder time getting into Jim's story. He wasn't very alpha male to me. I liked the storyline and towards the ending it did pick up.

This is a HEA and continues Jim's story from Undersold. You do not need to read Undersold to enjoy and follow along.

Great story about Emma and Jim who are taking risks in the name of love and also chasing their dreams. One doesn't have to exclude the other, does it?
