Dr. Oz fans are endlessly curious about what he and his family eat. They assume that the family of "America's Doctor" must live on a diet of broccoli and bean sprouts and be sworn martyrs in the church of joyless nutrient consumption. This couldn't be further from the truth. The Oz family (including Lisa's husband Mehmet) love food. It just has to be good food--not processed, artificially flavored or filled with empty calories. The Ozes understand the power of food and its ability to heal, and in The Oz Family Kitchen they will, for the first time, share their knowledge, passion and recipes.
This healthy eating cookbook has more than 100 simple, delicious recipes from the Oz Family collection, including pastas, soups, sandwiches, entrees, smoothies, and desserts, such as Mehmet's favorite birthday “Almost German Chocolate Cake", Daphne's special " Glazed Acorn Squash with Savory Seeds,”, and the Oz family’s “Coconut-Crusted Chicken". The book offers helpful advice on cooking healthy meals for the whole family, pantry stocking, and smart shopping, as well as nutrition tips and health insights from Dr. Oz. Whether you are looking to eat healthier, more delicious meal, or simply get a glimpse into the Oz family lifestyle, The Oz Family Kitchen is an essential tool you’re looking for.
I checkout cookbooks from the library before I decide to buy. I'm never home when the OZ show is on but I know there's a love hate relationship with most viewers. I was reluctant to pick this book up but the pictures are what drew me in. Cookbooks need pictures and this book has GREAT PICTURES! Needless to say I will be buying this book to add to my collection. Other cookbooks on my shelf: Clean Slate, The Food Lover's Cleanse, Real Simple Dinner Tonight:done!, Inspiralized, Food Cures, Thug Kitchen....!
Yes these are healthy recipes, yes it's going to be out of your comfort zone and yes there might be some extra steps.... Most people are resistant to change, but if you want to live healthy and feel good you need to eat food that is good for you! These recipes are delicious! When you enjoy being in the kitchen, and enjoy eating food you made that tastes great AND is healthy... now that is rewarding! The espresso is kicking in... :)
Suggestion for readers: Menu plan based on sales at your local grocery store. Start small and choose one or two recipes to make. You could even start by taking an inventory of your pantry and making something with things you already have on hand!
To be honest most of these recipes are outside of my comfort zone...types of ingredients and number of steps are out of the ordinary. There are definitely fresh flavors, healthy food alternatives and ideas for bringing family back to the table. However, this is not the cookbook for a multitasking on-the-go working mom with two active teens.
I am not a big fan of Dr. Oz so I almost passed on this cookbook as an advanced reader copy. Glad I didn't as it has some great recipes that are healthy without too much call for ingredients that are not in the house. Nice pictures. I did not read most of the verbiage, and certainly not the forward by the doc. I think the writing in a cookbook outside the recipes is mostly, usually, filler anyway.
I'm not a vegetarian or any other "tarian". I thought the book would be mainly kale and tofu. Yes, there are some recipes that call for kale and tofu, but there are some really yummy sounding recipes. The salads look wonderful. I'm especially interested in Game Hen with Spiced Basmati Rice. I liked the pictures and that most of the recipes are on one page. Good Job!!
The photos of the food that are included are well-done, but there is not a photo of every recipe and there are quite a few photos of the Oz family posing. Many of the recipes are complicated due to containing difficult to find ingredients and or requiring quite a bit of work. I would not call the recipes simple.
This book is full of healthy recipes that are innovative and appetizing. Plus Dr. Oz does a great job identifying the benefits of the healthy ingredients in each one.
While I love a good recipe book like any other person, people buy this one because of the family. Dr Oz famous heart surgeon and tv show personality and a look at what goes on in the kitchen at his house.
What did I like? Family orientated cookbook with a ton of family photos and a look at their mostly vegan/vegetarian approach to cooking. After really going through the recipes though I was amazed at how few I want to try. I got more recipes from Oz’s Food can fix it book than this one. Still I like her meal prep and pantry list but I didn’t care for most of the recipes included.
Would I recommend or buy? I skipped the entire breakfast part... sorry but none of them appealed. The mains were the only chapter I liked but it still contained calamari which I am not a fan. This is a disappointment compared to the Food Can Fix It recipes. Buy at your own risk. I got a copy from a thrift store for four dollars.
I was curious to read this book and was looking for some vegetarian receipes, of which there are many in this book. I thought the book, the discussion of food and why they mostly eat a plant based diet was interesting. Some of the receipes I will try, but some are out of my league with some ingredients I haven't heard of. Some I know my family won't eat, but some do sound really good. So I am eager to try those.
Borrowed my copy from the library to give it a try. The longer I have the book the more I like it! Great healthy recipes, many are easily adapted to vegan versions.
