Sabre Brown is a juvenile court attorney whose work is far more settled than her social life. In The Advocate, Sabre’s job is to protect her minor client, but she’s obsessed with solving the mysterious disappearance of her brother. When Sabre’s search for her brother and her career collide, can she protect herself and the child from the obscure and treacherous truth?
In The Advocate’s Betrayal, the killer left nothing behind but a kitchen knife, a rosary, and a dead body. Sabre Brown is hired to represent her long-time friend who is accused of the murder, but everything she turns up about her friend is a lie—even her name.
In The Advocate’s Conviction, Sabre’s clients keep disappearing. In her race against the clock, Sabre discovers a conspiracy years in the making, secrets hidden for decades, and the twisted work of a mysterious society have all come together in the ultimate test of the strength of Sabre’s conviction.
Teresa Burrell maintained a private law practice where her work focused on abused minors. She has received several awards for her countless hours of pro bono work with children and their families. Burrell has also enjoyed a satisfying career as a teacher, working with children of all ages with diverse backgrounds and special needs. Now in semi-retirement, Burrell continues to educate groups about social issues impacting children and write novels, many of which are inspired by actual cases.
She has written 22 mystery novels: 17 in The Advocate Series, 4 in the Tuper Mystery Series, and one standalone, co-authored with LJ Sellers.
I love the Advocate series. The characters are so real, I feel like I know them. The setting is familiar and I can picture being there. But most of all the stories, plural, in each book captivate my heart and I can't wait to see what will happen. Just enough excitement and fear to make you want to keep reading. 5 stars
The Advocate: Legal Suspense Murder Mystery (The Advocate Series Book 1), my first read from author Teresa Burrell. A 7-hour 57-minute/319-page thrilling introduction to the Advocate Series.
The Advocate's Betrayal: Legal Suspense Murder Mystery (The Advocate Series Book 2), my second read from author Teresa Burrell. An 8-hour 23-minute/321-page legal thriller.
The Advocate's Conviction: Legal Suspense Murder Mystery (The Advocate Series Book 3), my third read from author Teresa Burrell. A 9-hour/327-page legal thriller. “I received a free a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I own 11 of this author's works in this series and look forward to reading more, I've already added The Advocate's Dilemma: Legal Suspense Murder Mystery (The Advocate Series Book 4)) to my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Characters are great and action is fast paced. The life of a juvenile lawyer is one that few people are prepared to handle. Our character is one of the few. However, she is so shallow in her private life and wouldn't live a day in real life if she continually took her repeated dangerous actions. No one likes to live alone, in real life or in fiction. Get her a man, it is past due.
These beginning books of the Advocate series are a great start. The action is hectic at times, but the story is maintained all thru each book. Hard to pick a favorite, but the first book grabbed me and I've been glued to the set since. Am now beginning book four and looking forward to the rest with anticipation. Highly recommend this author if you, like me, haven't read her before.
I found it interesting about the devil worship and such. Not so the details as they were very slim and simple, but I do know the devil is real and so are who believe is witch craft. I like the way you present the clues simply and I can start to figure it out. Is Sabre going to have a love interest soon? Hope it doesn’t ruin the relationship with Bob. It’s nice to see a female-male business relationship without any sex. Thanks.
I literally couldn't stop reading these stories. I was rooting for Sabre, Bob, JP and all the other characters. The stories in themselves were very enthralling. Can't wait to read more.
Children in danger, Others missing, Sabre to the rescue!
Sabre has so much to do to help her clients. Can she do it with the aide of her friends? She puts herself in risky situations to do the right thing to help the clients she represents.
Read the three books and it is very obvious that the author has worked in the court system and has dealt with some pretty scary cases. I have a friend that was a social worker and I taught for 25 years in the state of California.
The Advocate Series box set is a thoroughly engrossing series
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Advocate Series! They are well written and entertaining. Great characters and action aplenty. Guaranteed to keep you anxiously turning pages!
What a lady! The three books included in this box set are all equally good. Each set of cases are unique. Each tells a tale of human depravity, of how a few caring people can make such a difference in a child’s life.
So far I’ve read all your books. I want to start # five. The thIng I love about your writing is it is so gritty. No punchs pulled. My daughter is a CASA volunteer so I understand the cases. So entertaining.
Almost finished the first book (reading a set of 3 on the Kindle) and although I am enjoying the reading the story and learning about the characters, there is one thing that is frustrating - some (a lot) of the chapters are out of order! It makes it extremely confusing and is spoiling the story somewhat. I am hoping that the other 2 books in the set are not the same and it would be good if the publishers could update the book with the relevant chapters put into the correct order.
The Advocate Teresa Burrell's Juvenile Court Attorney Sabre Brown is an empathetic character, this book was a great read, an intriguing and page turning mystery. Attorney Brown seems to have it all despite the loss of her father and mysterious disappearance of her older brother. As a juvenile court attorney she sees a lot of the good and the bad in people. When Sabre becomes the advocate for a precocious 9 year old girl strange things begin to happen around her. The little girl's father seems to be the perfect daddy, but something about him just doesn't ring true for Sabre. Before all is said and done, Sabre's past, present, and future may all collide! A riveting read.
The Advocate's Betrayal Juvenile Court Attorney Sabre Brown is back, along with sidekick and best friend Bob, and handsome ex-cop/ private investigator JP Torn. This time Sabre finds herself jumping from the juvenile court arena into criminal court when her good friend John is found murdered and his wife, Betty, is accused of the crime. Sabre wants to help Betty and believes in her innocence, but it seems Betty is hiding something and will do nothing to help herself. Enter into the twist Sabre's new mysterious boyfriend, who really appears to be " the one". A great read with lots of twists and turns. Can Sabre and Bob, along with J P' s investigative help uncover Betty's secret and prove her innocence? Is Luke, Sabre's oh so handsome boyfriend really the man of her dreams? I guess you will just have to read the book!
The Advocate's Conviction Sabre Brown is at it again. This time the very clients she is sworn to protect are disappearing. The children are from all different walks of life. Can Sabre unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of the children? Are they connected? Sabre, with best bud and fellow attorney Bob, call on PI and good friend JP Torn to help them unravel the mystery, and to hopefully find the missing children before it's too late. another well written story with a great plot and more twists and turns than a Missouri highway! Looking forward to moving on to the next book in the series, The Advocate's Dilemma!
I read only the first book of this three-volume box set. I'm not very keen on beginning the 2nd or 3rd books, so I will likely abandon this set right here. The story was interesting and the protagonist is an interesting female lawyer who is totally committed to her work. The plot moved along steadily and ticked most of the "Writing a Novel 101" boxes in the right order. I really like it when a book compels me to keep reading, but this one didn't - it was almost a chore to pick up my e-reader and try to finish another chapter or two. One final quibble (really much more than a quibble - it really bugged me!) was the unrealistic relationship the woman lawyer had with her male lawyer colleague. They called each other their best friends, and acted like it too. The male is supposedly happily married and never puts the moves on our heroine, but they are constantly calling each other "Honey", and he calls her "Snookums". I found this bizarre and it does not match anything I have experienced, in fact I found it just plain creepy.
I hadn't heard of this author, or this series, before it was recommended to me by BookBub. I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did.
The series revolves around one main character, an advocate in the US legal system, who works with children who need legal representation. There is enough detail to make the stories understandable, without being gratuitous. The author also does a very good job of keeping enough of the story back so that it never becomes totally predictable, yet keeps the pace brisk enough to keep the reader turning the page...
Very well written, with credible characters, and no unnecessary description of the wallpaper in every room, I really enjoyed these first three books in the series. I'll definitely be putting the remaining books on my wish list.
I brought the first three books in the series and enjoyed them so much that I ordered the next three. The Advocate Series is about a Lawyer who works for juveniles. teresa Burrell in real life is also a Lawyer working as an Advocate. She writes stories that were so good I could hardly put them down. I love the characters which are all the same in the series. I found the books on Amazon and love their Ebooks, which are much cheaper than hard covers. I recommend these books to anyone who loves suspence, and easy reading. I especially like the way Teresa writes because she doesn't add any profanity in the book. GREAT READING!!!!
I enjoyed the Advocate Series : Box Set. There were places where it was a little tiresome and seemed to me it repeated itself but I think this was because it was three separate books. Therefore it had to repeat some things for those who had not read e ach previous book. I really wanted Sabre and JP to get together and I won't mention if that happened since if you are reading this chances are you haven't read the books. As normally happens, I had figured out who most of the criminals were but there were still some surprises. I would recommend the books to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
These books are so good! Very suspenseful and well written. I got these in a free giveaway and I am so glad I did. I'm going back to get the ones that were written afterwards.
An interesting look at the drama of juvenile court!
I enjoyed reading this series! Action, intrigue, strong friendships, romance....it's all there. These stories are well written and I look forward to reading more of Teresa Burrell's work!
Teresa Burrell shows her love for helping children make it through the San Diego courts to safety. The three main characters combine well as a good team to solve the mysteries.
An interesting read. Not quite as captivating as the ones before it, but still a good read. Can not wait to get started on the next one of the series. I knew the family court subject would be based on lots of drama, but this is much more than I expected
Once again, Teresa has set out to deliver an excellent read! The series can be read individually or as a whole with nothing being barred from the pick-up. You can easily get into the book and follow along....
