I wasn't a big fan of this short story. I find the "kidnapping my enemy's sister to ruin her and shame him" thing more than a little sketch. I had a hard time finding anything about this concept romantic. Gareth was too forceful with Helen, which made me uncomfortable. The whole thing felt very Stockholm Syndrome-y to me. Helen got on my nerves because she almost never stood up for herself and I really hated when she came back groveling at the end.

Absolutely stellar short (but not that short) story from the talented imagination of Lauren Smith.

I cannot recommend The Duellist's Seduction or any of Ms. Smiths other titles highly enough.

What I loved most about writing The Duelist's Seduction is that it was my first historical romance story I ever wrote. The story itself is a little bit of a tribute to the darker historical romances from the 1990s where the heroes were a bit more brooding, the heroines a little sweeter and less "sensually educated and jaded". But both Gareth and Helen are wonderful in a way. Gareth is a truly wounded hero and Helen believes more in the power of love's redemption than being a rude, snarky heroine ...more

The blurb tells you about the duel so no point in doing that.

So, Gareth told Helen he would use her for his pleasure then she could leave. It doesn’t matter to me that he fell in love with her it was the cold calculating way he told her he would ruin her a couple of times that got to me. NOT my idea of a hero. Not that Helen minded too much since she was always thinking about all she wanted him to do to her. The entire story was just about desire, really. He kept promising her pleasure and givin

#1 in the "Seduction" series. First published in the Anthology "Captivated by His Kiss". Fast paced, dark romance with a brooding hero and an innocent Lady, who fights a duel as her twin brother. A quick, enjoyable read! A bit unique, packed full of excitement and danger, with seduction and romance. An enjoyable and satisfying read! While, some readers may find the brooding hero a bit off-putting, I enjoyed Gareth, who,I hoped would redeem himself
in the end. As for our heroine,Helen, I wanted to

A beautiful love story, and well written. It's always a joy to read something written by Lauren Smith. This may be a novella, but nothing is left out, you get a complete, beautiful romance story. I very much enjoyed reading this book, and highly recommend it to all.

Wow! The Duelist Seduction was Lauren Smith’s first story! This writer never fails to delight her readership with well-developed characters and emotional, engaging dialog. With smoking hot sensuality, a dash of angst and a happy ending you cannot go wrong with this novella.

Ms. Helen Banks dresses herself as her twin brother in order to save his life. The morning of the duel she somehow locks him up because she was afraid if he was the one attending the duel and was killed, she'd end up in a workhouse or on the streets. However, once the cold-hearted and offended Mr. Fairfax realizes the ruse, he proposes the last thing she'd have guessed he would propose… or that she'd accept.

Discovering a new author is as much of a treat as a discovering a great read. When the two are combined it makes for an exciting moment for a bookworm, and I’m delighted that I hit the jackpot with this find.

Mr. Fairfax—had a way about him, an animal magnetism that drew her in, with his smoky gaze and relaxed movements. Sin personified—

Suffice to say, after reading the synopsis to Lauren Smith’s, The Duelist’s Seduction I had no hesitations in jumping right in. This Historical novella was my rea

Lauren Smith has delivered a steamy, beautiful, and well paced Historical novella that you'll want to re-read the moment you reach the end.
Even though it's not a full novel we have nice character development and lovely getting to know you scenes that are not your usual stroll in the garden fare. Lauren Smith gave us a delightfully sexy historical story. Huzzah!

This story started off in an unusual way, but I loved it. A sister wants to protect her brother and gives up everything she has to do so. What Helen finds is better. Gareth is surprised by Helen but takes advantage of her need to protect her brother. Both find that love can heal a multitude of things. I read this of the BOC Star review team and highly recommend this story. I look forward to reading more of Lauren Smith's books.

I wasn't a fan of this story....I think I'm a little worn out on the kidnapping my enemy's sister for revenge or to repay someone's just isn't romantic to me. I can't fathom the two characters falling madly in love unless....the story is very very well written and make the story so sweet, so romantic,so compelling and engaging...which this author did not...IMO.

I loved this short sexy novella (though the sex itself was a bit hard to take in some scenes). This is in fact an adult re-telling of the Beauty & the Beast tale. He takes the girl in place of a family member, the housekeeper is very much Mrs. Potts (why does everyone always feel the need to copy the Disney version?), and his man servant is very much the Disney Lumiere. There is also the growing from rash, raging, brooding, brutish beast to tentatively tender toward the girl. The really tell ...more

Negative stars!

Chapter 2: I really don't have a high regard on "men" and their pity games. It seems that Gareth wasn't honorable as he claimed to be. He had ruined Helen but refused to marry her because he has nothing to offer her besides his name and his body. He thinks that he'd lost his right to love a long time ago and God would not give him a second chance?? Because he was sure after blessing him with Clarissa, that sort of love come only once?? Damn "men" and their self-pitying games! They

Helen Banks is going to die, either at the hands of her brother as he gambles away what's left of the family fortune, or by Gareth Fairfax.

When her brother's debts get him into trouble with Mr. Fairfax, Helen disguises herself as her brother and sets off to face Gareth in a duel to the death to settle the debts. She faces the man whom she has admired as a wallflower at the balls, a man with a haunted past and a hardened heart. She raises her pistol, about to fire...

It is the blurb which appealed me to read this novella.
I know short reads are not the best ones to discover an author’s work.
Even if in some way, it lacked depth and development, it was a lovely read.
The short length of the story showed perfectly the turmoil the main protagonists felt, it could have been better explored but it would have need more pages.
Helen Banks has prepared herself to die instead of her brother, why she never expected to be discovered and proposed by her twin’s opponent. If
