Growing up my mom cooked food that was influenced by the Pennsylvania Dutch that were close to her hometown. I have read many Amish stories and been to Lancaster, PA and eaten at the Amish inspired restaurants so I was naturally drawn to this cookbook that I can share with my grandkids. There are many things I like about this cookbook. I found the notes throughout the book that explained the Amish and their lifestyle to be accurate. The recipes are well written and have good illustrations along with them. I also like the skill level that is shown at the beginning of each recipe. I also like that while the recipes are Amish they use modern appliances like hand mixers and microwaves in their instructions. Years ago I followed an Amish cookie recipe and stirred the dough by hand as instructed and my arm was worn out (we are spoiled in our ways). I thought to myself later, why did I not use my hand mixer? There are many great recipes to make with kids and everyone that eats them will enjoy it!
