This book provides a good overview of the heyday of Montmartre from 1860s till 1914. The effects of the commune on the fabric of Montmartre and the 1920s only briefly covered though. Despite this the book is still a worthwhile read if you are wanting to learn more about this area of the city and why it became so famous in the 19th century.
