She was an awkward scrawny kid when they met, he felt sorry for the kid, but he was going away to college and there really was no room in his life for the daughter of the woman his dad had married. Fast forward eight years and the girl he'd nicknamed 'owl' was no more. In her place was a knockout who seemed set on making him sweat. After convincing himself that it was all in his head, that there's no way the little innocent could be trying to seduce him, he's blown away by his reaction to seeing her with other guys. Melanie knows what she wants and what she wants is her hot older stepbrother Nick. the guy who's been the star in her dreams ever since she reached puberty and a chance encounter sent her into orbit. From that fateful day to this, she's set her sights on him, and nothing, not even he himself, is going to stop her.
There is a good chance i'm only reading Jordan Silver's books to satisfy my inner twelve-year-old self who loves alpha males and over the top story-lines and doesn't care particularly about the writing process and what that entails, e.g. the editing or to make sense. And that's totally fine for as long as you know what kind of books you chose to read. I do know and i'm still reading them.. But why??
The first time i read one of her books i found it preposterous, hideously written and entirely too crazy. And yet, periodically i go back to her stories and i actually enjoy them quite a lot. Maybe it's because of the carefree feeling these stories leave me with, or i have conditioned myself to be less demanding, i don't know, but The Crush embodies all the attributes she is known for writing-wise, perfectly. An alpha male who is ridiculously hot, rich, self-made and well-endowed "wink-wink", a heroine in love with said male and a few mishaps or taboos or some scheming trying to keep the two main characters apart.
Here we had a small age gap and the taboo subject of the step-siblings in love and that was it mostly. The hero's turmoil about doing the right thing was the big antagonist and even the parents were easily manipulated. The heroine was the instigator but she didn't do much else and we were deprived of some old school drama, maybe an ex-flame going against our girl or an overly eager suitor asking to get his ass handed to him by our burly hero.
So fairly simple and generic The Crush had a nice feeling to it but it wasn't something extremely interesting or worthy. 2 stars are quite enough!
THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- The quintessential female fantasy, an amazing guy who lived by his rules until recently, changes his whole life in a heartbeat for them. - I liked the protectiveness Nick showed towards Melanie. - I also enjoyed the his jealousy.
Another wonderful book! I love her books. I love her writing style because of her OTT alpha males. The heroes always protect their women and are very possessive and loyal. Though some may not like OW/OM drama and manwhore heroes. But In this book, the H/h are loyal once they get together.
In this book, there was a scene with other woman but he sees the heroine as a little stepsister. It happened in prologue. But once he knew he want to be with her, he's really loyal.
Another thing that I love about her writing style is her HEA. Almost all of her books have epilogues and even those without epilogues ended beautifully. And I'm a sucker for epilogues especially if there's marriage and children. And she always writes that.
This is a Jordan Silver? Because while the guy was a manwhore he did not rub it in her face and he was kind of sweet. It was actually nice to read and hot at the same time. She had been secretly crushing on her stepbrother since she is 15 but before that she admired him. He always watched out for her and tried to help her. He had feeling for her also. They are a good couple who I could see working out as they actually talk to each other about what they want and need. It was a sweet story and I would read it again
Short hot read by JS what can I say I enjoyed it. Happy reading.
It was alright. I hated the fact she wanted him before he really noticed her and she saw him with other women even if she was young. I would also have liked to see more development of their relationship. He said he loved her but I never felt it deeply.
It’s been a hot minute since I read Jordan silver and this book reminded me why I gave her a break. The writing is typical of her style, which is to say horribly constructed, run-on sentences that reflect a phobia of punctuation. And of course the hero is a slimy manwhore who will screw any skank he can get his dick into. Not exactly the stuff that swoon is made of.
There’s also ON PAGE sex scenes with OW; which is always a turn off and completely, totally, utterly unnecessary. He also has sex with females long after knowing heroine and after heroine is an adult. The only excuse for this scumbaggery is that he knew the heroine when she was a knobby pre-teen and his stunted male brain took a while to notice that she had grown up.
So why am I giving this 3 stars? Well, I powered thru since the book was recommended to me and it DID get better. The hero, once he finally wakes up and sees what’s in front of him, has eyes only for the heroine and he was totally gone for her, claiming her thoroughly and bringing out every caveman Instinct he possessed. That and his fierce intent in knocking her up brought the swoon and I enjoyed the latter portion of the book, even if I didn’t care for the beginning and middle.
Not safe. Hero is a manwhore with repeated mentions of his promiscuous lack of sexual morals. He does become reformed later. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to the hero. On page sex scenes with OW prior to the MCs getting together. No OM. No abuse. Lots of breeding. HEA with epilogue
When Melanie's mother married Nick's father, Melanie was awkward and Nick felt sorry for her. Now years later, Melanie has decided to let her crush on Nick be known. Even though she is out of her element she tries to seduce him. Nick doesn't know what hit him but now he is thinking babies and marriage with Melanie.
This was fun fluff, some of the story felt like filler but the overall idea was good. Liked Nick but was a little surprised by his demeanor at times. Always a fan of Jordan Silver.
Good story. Nice that there wasn't a lot of emotional mess, plus it was sex-heavy so you won't get any complaints from me. I would have liked a bit more at the end though.
For being a short story, "The Crush" has a SEXY as hell hot of a besotted Alpha Hero who full well intends to breed his heroine after he realizes he loves her, a heroine full intent one fighting for her man and using seduction to do it..and lots and lots of hot sex. Jordan Silver made a incredible romance with the step-siblings trope between Nick and Melaine.Yeah i certainly have to read more by this author, she is AMAZING!
Very formulaic $mut read featuring cliché characters with the usual:
1. Rich, Alpha-male, tall, dark handsome possessive, controlling stud
2. Sweet, beautiful blonde, naïve virgin madly in love with afore-mentioned stud.
This would have been better if there was more non-$exual interaction between the MC's - there was a hardly any dialogue. And the progression of their relationship was paraphrased e.g. "we did this then we did that, but I felt like this"
It also would have worked better if there was steamy hot dirty talk. Most of the time we're in the Hero's head and he's telling us what he's thinking but he doesn't really say a huge amount to the heroine.
The $ex did become boring afterwards, after the 3rd or 4th I just skipped to the end to see what happens. It was a sweet HEA.
I liked it, J.S. writes some dirty (if not filthy) talking heroes, just sayin.
6 year difference between Melanie and her Step-brother Nick, she was a shy little thing he nick-named Owl and he was sweet to her. She adored him and now she's grown up and finishing her 1st year of college and turned into a bombshell. If you've read J.S. before you know what happens next. Could have used more conversation and less inner monologue and the parents weren't very developed but it was just right for the mood I was in.
So BAD!!!! The writing is horrible!!! Its all inner monologue and in slang, you have no idea of what's actually happening. It's as if someone is just thinking about how they feel but you have no clue of what's physically going on around them. No description of the room or what they are doing but a very casual mention. Bad, bad, bad. Plus everything is so vague, like ohh I know when a girl is on my dick. Meaning he knows when a girl likes him... uhhhh ok. Hard pass.
Edit: who the fuck wrote this?? And who were they writing it for?!?! Because it sure af wasnt for a grown women.
“If I wasn’t interested in what you were offering, I wouldn’t be here. So in the future when your female brain plays tricks on you because you were the one to make the first move, remember that. Now let me see what I’ve given up my freedom for.”
Seriously, wtf. I'm all for a dominant alpha bossy Male, but this dude just out right thinks women are inferior and let me see what I'm giving up my freedom for?! Fuck off dude, I would walk right out the damn door if some dude said that shit to me.
I thought this book was hot. The characters had so much passion and chemistry I thought my kindle would short circuit. I liked that Owl took the initiative. I thought it made her a strong character. The alpha male protective and possessive personality wasn't overbearing the author perfected that balance. Overall this was different than previous stories and I loved it that much more
U couldn't have made the heroine more pathetic if u had tried. Again, Cliche manwhore hero. Desperate virgin heroine, who's only dream in life is to get fucked by the hero and have his babies . Not dream , actually her only goal in life is to marry him and have his kids. Awww how shitty and whatnot?! She gets a makeover, becomes pretty and tries to seduce the hero. Well once she's hot, he obviously wants her..duhh! Well if it isn't love story of the yea
It was not bad it was good. I wanted a tad but more content but that is me being greedy with this author. Though there is a lot of loving (bed squeaking) time in this author’s stories, they are great reads. When I know they’re going to have a new book I’m like give me, give me, give me.
This is a romantic, sexy, and passionate story about two people attracted to one another, and they both have the same issues. And they decided their relationship between them both. Fabulous Fascinating alpha male plus determine beautiful female which makes a great love match.
Not a bad story. I have one question though was he hung like a stallion or just ten inches? But I would have loved if she the female protagonist actually got a backbone. She needed to be stronger. She also needed to torture him a little longer.
Needed serious editing to address structural issues. The first 50% of the book was ridiculously repetitive and boring. Would've liked there to be more actual conversation between them. They barely spoke to each other and I'm supposed to believe he loves her? Disappointed in the novella.
This book dragged. I mean they had their first kiss at the 48% mark. I was bored. It was uninteresting. Nothing major or worth reading happened here. I wouldn’t recommend you waste your time or money on this story.
Loved it...nice short steamy romance!!!! I am glad mom and daughter made up and got along again... a great book... I am also reading another of Jordans...just bought a bunch if them!!! They are so good!!!
She was his awkward stepsister he nicknamed Owl. Its years later and Melanie is nothing of the little girl she used to be, and Nick is drawn to her. Will the feelings that they are experiencing turn into something more between them.
