What She Carried

She survived what should have killed her. He sees the woman she became, not the wound she carries.

Two years ago, a raid took everything from Margaret Kendrick. Her betrothed. Her future. The certainty that she was anyone's idea of a bride. Now she is twenty-two, the only heiress of Clan Dunloch, and her father has watched four suitors come and go. None of them looked at her without flinching. None of them saw her people as more than a bargaining chip.
When a letter arrives from a knight too wounded to travel, proposing a meeting in the south, Margaret feels something she has not felt in two long a strange, steady calm. Against her father's better judgment, she rides to meet him.

Sir Micah Drummond is not what she expected. Massive, dark-bearded, gentle-voiced, he greets her from a couch he cannot rise from, and his warm brown eyes hold none of the pity she has learned to dread. But Drummond Fort is full of secrets. Trays carried to a locked upper room. Men who fall silent when family is mentioned. A small white face watching from an attic window.

What Margaret discovers behind that door will change everything she thought she knew about why she was summoned — and about the man who summoned her.

Set in the Scottish Highlands of 1690, WHAT SHE CARRIED is a slow-burn marriage of arranged romance about two wounded people building a life from the wreckage of what was taken from them. Perfect for readers of Diana Gabaldon, Julie Garwood, and Grace Burrowes who love their Highland romances with depth, warmth, and a hero who knows that the strongest love is the one that waits.

Absolutely Beautiful

Wow! I’m on a historical romance binge and this is one of the best so far. It’s sad but also heartwarming.
