Sissy's Romance Book Review
This is my first book by Christy Carlyle, but it won't be my last. I loved this book and the writing. I liked how there were really no "bad guys", I liked the secondary Characters and hope to see their stories in the future. This is the first book in the "Accidental Heirs" series. Our heroine is Jessamin Wright, who is running her father's book store since he has past away. Her father left her with a lot of debts. Jessamin is talked into kissing our hero, Lucius Crawford, Viscount Grimsb for mon ...more
I love finding new authors. I definitely plan on reading more by Christy Carlyle!

Jessamin Wright is offered the money to kiss a total stranger at the behest of a young woman who is upset the man in question ignored her. Money she desperately needs to pay of her father's debts, or she'll loose the bookshop she's been running since he died.
Lucius Crawford, Viscount Grimsby (nicknamed "Lord Grim" because he never smiles), needs to marry a rich woman -and soon- if he wants to save his father's est

Very nice read! It is so relieving to the mind to read a book with sensible characters, and also one in which neither character is stubborn as a mule or afraid to admit to their feelings. Plot-wise the story is tightly knit, and overall this is a very well-written book, but somehow lacks the vitality of a 5-star keeper (not to undermine this book at all).

Review to come.

I really struggled to make it through this book. I love the idea of a noble hero who tries to avoid passion and keep a cool control, getting totally thrown for a loop by a headstrong heroine. The story’s premise drew me in. But it moved very slowly, and frankly, I found it just plain boring. The characters are largely superficial. There is too much narrative to wade through between snatches of dialogue. There’s just no emotion. I didn’t care.

As the story begins, the heroine, Jessamin, is struggl

This was a fun and sweet regency romance. It starts out when our heroine, is desperate to save her fathers book shop, and she is offered a 100 pounds in exchange for kissing a lord in public. A kiss...really easy right? Well somehow she ends up liking this stranger and that one kiss is one hell of a kiss and changed her forever. When she loses her shop over the scandal, she is offered a job to be a lady's companion and she is having to work with constantly. the love story between these two is sw ...more

Started out great and then just got so incredibly boring. I skipped entire pages near the end and didn't miss anything. The book went from things happening to nothing but inner dialogue. I'm in no hurry to read the next book, if I do at all.

Promising start, but in the end too much inner dialogue.

Not my kind of book. It was kinda boring. It was sweet in a way though.

Gah! I am trying to write this review for the third or fourth time. Goodreads keeps eating it and it totally messed up my blog post for the day. So here it goes again, sixth times a charm right?

So this was a fun sweet regency romance taking place in the late 19th century... partially in London, but in the country for the most part.

Our heroine is Jessamine Wright, a book lover, bookshop owner and suffragette. All of these things endeared Jess to me, and I suspect we would have gotten along quite

Because of a kiss started for the wrongest of motives, Jess and Lucius find a true and profound love. (I cannot say I wouldn't want a Lucius for myself...I do love the brooding types that smile only for me. ;) )
This book is one of those you need to savor. It is slow paced and full of feelings. It's also set in a period of which authors don't write enough. Jessamin, in fact, is a suffragette who writes speeches for meetings and, at the same times, tries to make ends meet with a bookshop that her

This book may be the perfect romance. This is not a fast paced romance, they don't fall in love at first sight, theirs is a romance that grows. This is a beautiful story about the heir to an Earldom, the grim Viscount, and a bookshop owners daughter. What began with a wager to kiss "Viscount Grim" takes a totally unexpected turn. There are many wonderful secondary characters who play an important role in this story who I hope to see in future. I was drawn in to this story, by the main characters ...more

t has been a long time since I've read an historical romance and I thought the plot has some potential to make an entertaining read.

If the character are nice, I thought the story was lacking of rhythm. It's a short one when as soon as the dare is issued and the kiss is given…the reader will have to wait until the last pages to have some action.
Romantic action or some twist… A bit too look as I'm not patient and prefer a fast pace in my stories.

It's not a bad story just one that will not mark me.
#1 in "Accidental Heirs" series. An interesting and unique romance with a few twists and turns. Can a Kiss truly lead to a HEA? Well, in this story of passion, guilt, financial troubles, romance and love, it can. Many problems face two strangers, who find more in life than fulfilling others wishes but can they find their own happiness. An interesting, well written tale with a cast of characters who are engaging, endearing and entertaining. An enjoyable and satisfying read. I look forward to the n ...more

Teared up so many times! I loved every character! Such a sweet, but subtly sexy story.
I struggled a bit with this story. I kept putting it down. I did finish it - it was ok., I got a little bored at some parts. 3☆

1.5 stars, but I was feeling generous for some reason.

I've been reading so many mystery novels lately, so I thought I'd go to the bottom of the list of books on my e-reader (aka the books on there the longest) and pick a non-mystery novel. I knew when I started reading this that I probably shouldn't finish it. And then for some reason I did?

It just... it doesn't hang together. The whole set-up is weird: an aristocratic young woman bets a suffragette to kiss, and therefore cause a scandal for, a

My experience reading this novel was akin to watching a movie that was not objectionable, but not terribly interesting or exciting either. The relationship between Lucius and Jessamine hinges on one magical kiss and it's ripple effect on the lives of several people. The main characters all seem intelligent and interesting but the premise that some "...scheming marquess's daughter offers her [Jessamin] one hundred pounds

This is an intriguing romance, set in late Victorian England, full of sensual chemistry and interesting characters.

Jessamin, a suffragette, agrees to create a scandal, because she is struggling to keep her late father's debt ridden bookshop open. Kissing a nobleman, in the midst of the ton, is far out of her comfort zone but needs must and the scandal she causes is the least of her worries.

I have to admit that Carlyle is such a fresh face in a crowded industry of historical romance and in many ways the author's writing is such a welcome relief. To put it simply I adored this alluring love story as it was beautiful, slightly scandalous with a touch of heart and I could not be happier by what I uncovered within the pages of this wonderful story.

There was certainly a great deal to admire about the story itself, but my absolute favorite part had to be how innocently the romance began.

How far would you go to save your (deceased) wastrel father's business? Sometimes keeping a deathbed promise isn't the best road for a girl to follow. But Jess has integrity enough to do just that, keep his bookstore at all costs. What he also left her was his massive gambling debt.
When an opportunity to earn enough to bring the bank note current-she accepts. A little rich girl is upset that the handsome Viscount would not dance with her, he barely acknowledged her and now he needs to be taught

I thought this was a lovely Victorian romance. Lucius and Jess are both very likable and very sweet together. The story is pretty straightforward... it starts with a bargain that involves Jess kissing and thus embarrassing Lucius in public for snubbing a young woman. But Lucius isn't embarrassed at all... in fact, he basically loves the kiss (talk about a plan backfiring!), and neither of them can forget the stolen moment even though they don't think they should be together. Maybe a bit slow pac ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I didn’t think I was in the mood for a historical romance, but I guess somewhere deep down I was very much craving one and I am super glad I was became a part of this tour!

I liked all her characters, some I definitely found more appealing than others (I really didn’t care for his sister).

Overall even if the story may seem a little slow for others, for me it was a well-paced read from start to finish and I am looking

A young working woman with nothing to lose, a grim aristocrat who just wants to be left alone, but is in desperate need of a rich bride, one snubbed debutante. Put them all together and you have one scandalous kiss. The power of that kiss changes everything.

With the aristocrat determined to do his duty, will they find their happily ever after? Well if they didn't, this wouldn't be much of a story.

I got about 44% through this book before I gave up. It wasn't because there was anything wrong per se, nothing seriously weird or ridiculous happened and it was fairly well written. My big problem? Boredom. Normally I look forward to being able to pick up my kindle and start reading, with this book, I was starting to dread it as I was losing all interest in what was happening. That's when I decided to give up, life's too short.

Really enjoyed this one! It's a sweet, very romantic story of two hearts finding their HEA. If you're looking for a historical romance where the focus is squarely on the development of the relationship with little outside drama, where the hero and heroine are given ample time to get closer in a sweet, sensual dance, this book is for you. I'll definitely pick up the next one in the series.

I loved the story line. The characters were relatable and seemed to work well together. There could have been more to the conflict- it seemed easily resolved, but worked with the level of tension the author created. It wasn't overly dramatic and then quickly resolved, which drives me crazy. It was moderately dramatic and made sense. I will definitly be picking up the rest of the series.

It started off so well. The second half of the book had way too much introspection. Not enough going on just a lot of talking. The author is a great writer but a lot of the characters' inner thoughts could have been cut from the book.
