Between the Cracks and Burning Doors is the second book in the Extraction List series, centering on the brooding Cain Foley before he learned how to brood. In the Extraction List, Cain is Riley's savior, the one who helps her and her mother reach safety.

In this book, he's just a poor boy from a poor family, spare him his life from this monstrosity who accidentally kills his father in the first chapter. And by accidentally, I mean the guy had it coming. The first couple of chapters were hard to

Between the Cracks and Burning Doors, the prequel to The Extraction List does not disappoint! It is a solid, action packed ride that chronicles Cain's transformation from victim to stone cold killer. I very much enjoyed reading Cain's history and seeing how he became such a badass. His journey is written with such skill and finesse that you cannot help but root for him to survive in this harsh, cruel world Meland has created.
On the run from the police, he is taken in by a priest and for the fir

Faced with a life or death situation, Cain takes the fight path. What would the world, children be like if parents got children taken away from them for not being "good" parents. What if there was no rules or laws, and police could act as they saw fit? Kids have turned into acting like the adult parent to survive on their own in a world that is crumbling out of control around everyone, while everyone else has an opinion on how things should be ran. Fast paced read, lots of action and morale deci ...more

Not your typical book 2 of a series!

It was very cool to go back and get Cain's POV and back story! It was not what I was expecting for book 2, but I'm so glad I read it. There was so much that I didn't expect out of this story. I can hardly wait to read the next in the series!

Shelves: dystopian
We get to know a little about Cain Foley and the place he called home. And in the first paragraph, the last sentence...
"For my first kill, I accidentally killed my father when I beat him to death with a pipe"
What? Anyways, it wasn't much of a home..as if you couldn't tell from that one line! He was abused both verbally and physically by his father and one fateful night, everything changed, it was his life or his fathers and he chose his. He ran from the scene of his crime after his mother found

Know a young adult you’d like to get hooked on reading? Christmas is coming and the first two books of this series are great stocking stuffers!

In the first book, the dystopian world of Riley is presented with an immediate rush of adrenaline filled action. A well intended law, initiated by her mother, has backfired. The Taskforce has shown up on her doorstep, prepared to take Riley into custody for the mandatory Extraction. Your heart will thump within the first scenes as gunfire and blood pepper

This is the second book in the Extraction List series and it’s all bout Cane Foley! The dark and mysterious boy that helped out Riley in the last book! If you haven’t already be sure to check out my review of it here Review: The Extraction List By Renee N. Meland

I was pretty excited to have a book all about Cane, because he’s definitely my favorite character of the series. It was one action packed ride that showed Cain’s transformation to the Cain we know in the previous book. While it was a tra

f you haven't read The Extraction List read it first before reading this. This is Cain's story told from his POV, before the Parental Morality Law takes effect. We get to learn what and who made Cain the way he is and why he hates Keegan so much and wants him dead. Why he's become a guide is explained more and we finally see deeply into his character. We also meet Jordyn and learn about her meeting Cain and how she becomes his partner. We also learn about Dom and how they started the "Compound" ...more

I loved this book! I read it first and will now go back and read The Extraction List. What I loved was how the author didn't over tell the story. She sets us down in the middle of the action and it never lets up. Cain is such a complicated, wonderful character! He's such a nice guy with noble motivations, but he's sooo good at killing! Everyone needs a talent, huh? I love the backdrop of the economy crashing and all the fall out from that and thought it was great that Meland didn't overdo it--ju ...more
