Sometimes fanning the flames is better than running...

Smokejumper Dave Knight lives by two simple rules—Play hard, work harder. Heartache taught him love and commitment don't mix with his high-intensity lifestyle. That hot kiss with the classy Olivia Benedetti-Harper was a mistake, but he walked away in time. Too bad he can't run from the memories. Then a plane crash shat

This sexy emotional romance is the story of Olivia and Dave. Dave was there when Olivia's marriage finally fell apart after years of emotional abuse while at a summer camping trip with her husband's friend, and one year later they are back at the same camp with mutual friends but under new circumstances. Newly divorced, Olivia just wants to enjoy her vacation and figure out her future path. Dave, permanently injured in a tragic accident that forcibly ended his smokejumper career isn't the same c ...more

Dave Knight is a player, a bad boy. He’s a love-em-and-leave-em-no-commitment kind of guy. He wasn’t always that way, but a past relationship has made this his philosophy, which is why he runs away from anything that smells of commitment. And that’s how he copes. However, a problem with that philosophy arises and is put to the test when Dave finds himself saving Olivia from a potentially violent act at the hands of her husband. It is then followed by an intense, heated moment between Olivia and ...more

I was a little confused at the start of the book as Love Burns doesn’t start out quite like I am used to seeing books begin with a nice slow introduction of the main characters. It started during a friends weekend wedding in Las Vegas. We are introduced to the two main characters Dave and Olivia right in the beginning and they truly light up the pages of this book right from the start. There is an attraction ther

I felt that this book went too slow for my taste. I know that it was nice to have a slow build up but at times it just seemed to drag a bit. Just my opinion of course. I did like both of the main characters, Dave and Olivia and they sure did come from different backgrounds. They each had their own different pain and insecurities.Dave had quite a nice group of friends that met as a tradition at their camp, where they relaxed and caught up. They ended up becoming friends with Olivia as well. A nic ...more

I didn't read any of the previous books in this series.
I did meet them here and got a little description of their past, not to much though. This book is about Dave and Olivia.
Dave was a smoke jumper. He jumped out of air planes to fight fires. Olivia just got out of a bad marriage. Their chemistry was there but they fought it.
They both were invited to go camping with the rest of the group. As in Kay, Nate, JoAnna and the kids.
Dave being grumpy because he suffered an injury on his last jump trie

Slowly, steadily, warmly…

This is the third installment of the River series but don’t worry if you haven’t read the first two stories. The author provided enough back story that I was able to enjoy Dave and Olivia’s story as a standalone as well.

Olivia Benedetti-Harper was learning to live again. Recently separated, she needed to find her own way after years of living in a controlling relationship. She met Dave Knight on one of the worst days in her life but that unhappy incident introduced her t

I received a copy of this book for an honest review. This is the third book in the River book series. I have not read the first two books in the series. The author did a great job of providing enough background information that I did not have any problem getting into the book. The weekend of the wedding of Olivia's friends Nate and Kate she finds out her husband is having an affair. Dave is also friends with Nate and Kate. Olivia and her husband to get into an argument. Dave steps in to protect ...more

Dave and Olivia have both faced heartache and pain within their lives. Each has used running away as a coping mechanism. Dave through his smoke jumping career and Olivia by trying to block out years of emotional abuse. When Dave is injured ending his career he begins to realize he must face his painful past in order to gain a future with Olivia. Love Burns by Babette James is heartbreaking inspirational tale of two people trying to face pat mistakes and get over painful experiences. An emotional ...more

Just like the title, the story is a play on words. Burned by their former relationships Dave and Olivia try to stop the attraction growing between them until one summer when they give in.
