Like a Love Song went straight for my heart. The characters, their histories, their futures, the setting, the plot. All of it spoke to me on a level that went beyond the romance and aimed steadfastly toward Jesus. Joe and Sue’s love story was, of course, a highlight of the book for me – it was cute, sweet, and even breath-stealing on occasion. But in all honesty, it paled in comparison to this truth that Camille Eide framed so gorgeously: God’s love never fails.

Reviewed at The Power of Words:

After turning the last page of Like a Love Song, I just sat and pondered the question, what made this story so very special? Elements that I always look for were present, such as a vivid sense of place – the Juniper Ridge Canyon area of rural Oregon – richly-drawn characters, a well-crafted storyline, and a strong spiritual thread. Relationship dramas often lack the action that some readers crave, yet I was immediately captured by the complexi

I listened to the audiobook version of this title. Excellent storytelling and superb narration! Sue, Joe, Bertie, and all the kids fight to save Juniper Ranch. Their experiences of abandonment pulled my heartstrings and their resilience is inspiring.

I won this title in a giveaway. The opinions expressed are my own.
Susan Quinn, a foster mom to castaway kids, just wants these children to have a healthy, safe environment in which to grow. Her childhood was a nightmare, so to give these kids hope and stability, Susan would feel like a success. But because of her past, she's not very trusting, and men are at the top of her list of who not to trust.

Joe is trying to find his siblings who were separated when their mother abandoned them, later to be found and taken to different foster homes. Joe just happened to h

LIKE A LOVE SONG was so much more than I was expecting. This story was sweet, but it was also heartbreaking, emotional, inspirational, and deeply romantic. It pulled at my heart with anger, frustration, hope, and joy. A heartfelt and beautifully written story from beginning to end.

I really felt for these characters. They're full of broken hearts and pasts. They're searching for love even when they fight against it. I wanted so much for them and so much for Sue. I really wanted to shake her somet

I loved this book! Susan Quinn, social worker turned surrogate mom to foster teens, is a very strong, compelling character. She uses her past to push her to do everything she can for the kids in her care and to relate to them on a level that others can't. When she reaches the end of her rope, she turns to the only option that seems available, a brawny handyman with a guitar and a relationship with a God he keeps calling F

Like a Love Song is a beautiful story of perfect love casting out fear. Sue has been hurt and damaged by life experiences. Growing up in foster care, the examples her mother showed her, all add to hardening her heart and making her a jaded, fearful woman. My heart ached for her. Fear has her so entrapped, that she operates her group home teaching the kids that they could only depend on themselves because she's too afraid to love them with a mother's love they deserve.

Then Joe comes to the home o

This book pulls at your heart strings from the first page. Sue and Joe are both hurting from their past as children, will they help each other heal and find the love they both deserve.
I found it slow in places, and somewhat predictable.
This book is about forgiveness, not only receiving it from our Heavenly Father, but learning to forgive yourself.
Overall it was a good read, one perfect for summer!
Highly recommended!

Like a Love Song is a masterfully written story by Camille Eide.
The characters in this story are diverse, well-developed and personable.

On a referral from a friend, Susan hires Joe, a handyman in between oil rig jobs, on a temporary basis during the holiday season when she comes up short-staffed. I really enjoyed the first book I had read by this author and got this one as soon it was available, and I loved it as much as I did Like There's No Tomorrow. It is the compelling story of Sue, the director of a home for troubled youth, who is fighting to keep the home open and Joe, an oil rig worker, that is trying to help her but she is not sure she can trust him. The author does a wonderful job of capturing the personalities and heartaches of the children that Sue is trying to help that have ...more

Once I started this book I became more intrigued with the characters as the ook developed. I wanted to learn the inner workings of the main characters and more about their back stories to see how their past shaped their present. The author did a great job developing the plot, and throwing in some good twists to build up the momentum, especially between Joe and Sue. You will find deeper appreciation for the word "family", and realize it can also be used to describe people who go through life toge ...more

I simply could not put this book down! Joe is a hardworking man whose heart has been softened by his faith despite a scarred childhood. Sue has lost her way thanks to her own horrible experiences, but fails to see all the ways God has saved her & has lost her faith entirely. An injury puts Joe & Sue in close contact, & they learn to lean on each other just a little. The teens & staff on Sue's foster care ranch are never without conflict or bad decisions, but it's just one big happy family...or n ...more

I laughed, I cried, and cheered in the end. The author writes characters that are so real, they stuck with me afterwards. While some aspects of the story line are difficult, they’re handled with sensitivity. The description of the setting (Central Oregon) was so real, I could smell the sage brush. This is a story about loyalty, sacrifice and forgiveness that will tug on your heartstrings.

Camille Eide does it again. Her ripped-from-the-headlines reality takes the reader into the desperation felt by two lonely people, both doing their best to make the lives entrusted to them better. I've read both of Camille's books, and they are amazing! She digs so deeply into her characters that when you put the book down for that last time, you continue to wonder what happens to them. For book two, Camille has chops! And she's not afraid to use her love of writing to create amazing new stories ...more

Like a Love Song is a delightful romance, and oh so much more. It’s one of those books you never want to end. I didn’t know what was coming next, but I knew it was going to be good. Like a roller coaster ride, the story towed me up steep hills, then plunged me downward into deep valleys and carried me through the heartaches, adventures, and the joys of the residents of Juniper Ranch.

Truly fine work by Camille Eide. I’m ready for her next book.

Like A Love Song is a captivating ode to second chances, love, faith and forgiveness. From the witty, often heart-wrenching dialogue, to the prose that conjures up the scent of pine and warmth of the sun, this author knows how to keep a reader turning page after page -anxious to see how the story plays out, but sad to reach the end of a wonderful literary journey.

When Sue, an untrusting foster group-home owner meets Joe, a big-hearted oil rig worker, fireworks fly--but not in a good way! Mix in a handful of ragtag foster kids and nothing is certain. Author Camille Eide skillfully draws us through a story of brokenness and hurt to a place of hope—ever pointing to the true source of healing. And love. Five stars! Highly Recommended.

A lovely easy read, Camille Eide is a great story teller and writer. I loved how she developed the characters in the story, particularly Joe and Sue. They both had come from painful pasts and it was great to see how it shaped their lives.

Like a Love Song was an endearing, edge of my seat, couldn't put it down story! My heart went out to Susan & the children in her "orphanage" with each twist and turn in the plot. Christian author Camille Eide does a wonderful job of weaving in the importance of faith and how past experience shapes our views of God. This is a must read filled with emotion, suspense, romance and faith! ...more

Enjoyable Read

Light predicable read and yet hard to put down. Funny in parts and yet in most parts it tears at your heart strings for the lack of love for so many children that have or do live in abusive homes. This book is the story of a woman who is trying to run a home for unwanted children. Look forward to reading other books by this author. Christian fiction genre.

When I finished this book, I had a happy, peaceful smile on my face. Difficult issues were dealt with sensitivity. God's grace was brought to light through powerful characters and a realistic plot where the fate of children of failed adoptions hinged on one woman's determination and struggle
to give them a home. This was a fantastic book to end the year with!
