Ahhh, ‘tis the season for creepy, dark reads that will have you hearing things that go bump in the night. Grab a few candles, keep the dog close by and step into J.W. Webb’s world, but only if you dare.

The Haven is an old ghost story come to life for Richard Harrison as he and his cold and distant wife take a trip to the seaside in an attempt to re-kindle the sparks that have gone cold. And so, Richard’s living nightmare begins with a strange woman on the shore and something that went bump in t

Richard and Kate Harrison arrive at Haven Hotel for a weekend to rekindle their flailing marriage.
There are hauntings but are they nightmares or hallucinations?

Then a cold blooded murder mystery/ghost story.

The complex character backstories add to the mystery.

Andrew McDermott added tremendously to the story with his narration. Honestly, he could read the phone book (if they were still around) and make it enjoyable. I’ll definitely be looking for more of his narration.

What a enchanting Ghost Story !

I like reading Ghost stories and this one didn't disappoint. J.W.Webb usually writes fantasy stories, but the Haven was different and I like to discover different stories. The story is set in Cornwell and plays off in both the past and present and the way he has written the pov from the different characters was nicely done. It didn't disturb the flow of the story and the plot twist at the end just wow I didn't expect that to happen.

I was given a free review copy of this audio book, at my request, and am voluntarily leaving this unbiased review.

The Haven is a story that doesn't fit into a neat category. I think I found it in "mystery" but it's almost closer to thriller or horror.

The story follows our main character who is on a trip with his wife. Their marriage is on the rocks and is in danger of collapse. The husband experiences visions and nightmares during the trip. This is then offset by a story set several hundred year

This was not what I was expecting from J. W. Webb after reading his magnificent series the Legends of Ansu, however, I really do believe that no matter what this author writes he writes with such flair! One can tell that he loves Cornwall as the descriptions of both moors and sea are beautiful and almost drawn with a paintbrush for us! This was a mesmerising ghost story, a tale of love and loss, of not wanting to let go of one's loved one, so drifting in the in-between worlds and waiting for the ...more

What a magnificently written ghost story. Full of things that go bump in the night and scare you half to death. I loved this story and had goosebumps myself. The characters were beautifully described and the Cornish coast was so wonderfully evoked I would love to go there. Grab your self a copy, curl up in your favourite reading spot with your favourite beverage and lose yourself on the Cornish coast. Highly recommend.

Good storyline. It was rather basic as these ghost stories go.Andrew McDermott has a wonderful voice for narrating. His inflection made things sound a lot lighter than the ominous tone it needed. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

'No one visits Cornwall in November.'
The Haven is a ghostly yarn set in England's west country during darkest November. It opens on a young couple arriving at The 'Haven Hotel' on the North Cornish Coast. Theirs is a troubled marriage. The husband, Richard, is desperate to patch things up, whilst the wife, Kate, appears cold and remote.

There are two plots running parallel within The Haven's pages: one is set during the past, the other one current - both are linked by the echoes of a crime commite

Wow, for such a short story this really packs a punch... for starters I adored the poem quoted at the beginning of the book "Not in loneliness, but in shallows keeping, The Maid of Haven waits.." So beautiful. This story has loads and loads of twists and freaky turns, this kept me glued to this book during the entire time of my holiday. I was not expecting it to end the way it did!! I really enjoyed reading the detailed descriptions which really helped me to imagine the scenery and the character ...more

I’ve read a lot of paranormal, and I’ve read a lot of suspense novels. But I’m hard pressed to remember one that was not only crazy intense and gripping, but so beautifully written, some parts almost bordered on poetic. This is a dark literary thriller/ghost story that is both easy to read, yet deeply intense at the same time. I thought the story to be extremely well-rounded and the characters fleshed out (no cardboard cliché cutouts here!). Warning, this novel is dark and has its twisted moment ...more

this author crafts an authentic, engrossing novel that was such an interesting blend of almost everything, from romance to danger to suspense, to strange- mystical happenings… it is really hard to just sum up or categorize it easily. That said, I did enjoy it very much once I was all the way done, but there were several parts where I wondered what was going on and did feel confused by things. I liked the characters, but couldn’t quite figure them out, which is perhaps the author’s inten

I was born near Doncaster England in the early sixties but later moved south to Sussex, where I lived for many years. One of my (several schools) was at Battle, a small town named after that historic conflict in 1066. You know the one, it culminated with poor Harold getting that arrow in his eye and those rude Normans invading our green and pleasant land. Growing up so close to th
