Davga is a fantastic novella set in the unique series The Chronicles of the Endless War. The book is about a prisoner (Davga) who can't quite remember what he did to become shackled. Throughout the novella he begins to remember who he is with a little bit of help from another captive.

I think the character development really stands out in this one. Douglas is able to give us a new character in the Endless War and flesh him out so well within the bounds of a novella. The pacing is fairly fast but she is able to fit in some of the smaller, more meaningful moments where we really get to dive into the character and figure out some of what he has been through.

The novella also features the series' fantastic magic system and some of the coolest scenes to date. Douglas has a habit of developing some very unique ways to incorporate the magic into the world and we see it again here with a new creature. It's simply refreshing. She's not afraid to go outside of the normal fantasy box and put her flavor on things.

Davga will become my new recommendation for entry into The Chronicles of the Endless War. While the main series is also a great place to start, Davga is able to showcase the author's talents and introduce the world in so few pages.

I can't wait to get my hands on book 3!

Thanks to L.M. for sending me a review copy.

Davga is a novella set in the world of Chronicles of the Endless War. We meet Davga at one of the low points in his life, and as the story unfolds, we discover the reasons that Davga is in prison and the power lying dormant inside of him.

As a novella, the pacing is fast and we move quickly through the story. Despite the shorter length, one of the aspects I enjoyed most was the development of Davga's character through the pages. It is difficult to discuss too much without getting into spoiler territory, but the Davga at the beginning is very much changed by the end. I think it shows real skill by L.M.'s part to move the character so far in so few pages.

If you’ve read any of the books in Chronicles of the Endless War, I think you’ll really enjoy this novella. At the same time, if you haven’t read any of L.M.’s work before and are looking for a short introduction to the world she’s creating, this serves as a great entry point without spoiling the main story.

I was lucky enough to read a beta version and an ARC copy of this gripping tale that packs so much into so few pages.
This is the story of Davga, one of the many prisoners in the frozen desert of Rakul where the only hope of relief is through dying.
Davga has no memory of his past or why he ended up in Rakul, until a man called Huntsman appears and helps him remember the tragedies of his past, who he is, and more importantly, his role in the gods’ war.
This novella is an amazing introduction to the sprawling world created by Douglas, with bloody battle scenes and enough foreshadowing to make you want to jump straight into the main books, Gharantia’s Guardian and Gharantia’s Fury. And if you already read them, it gives you a taste of what is coming in book 3!
Do you like fantasy? Then you need to dive into this series!
