One heart's been broken. The other is secondhand.

Kory Vansant doesn’t deserve to be alive.

I'm a sucker for second chances and this was a little different - one MC a heart transplant patient and the other a paramedic/mortician.

It understandably took Kory a while to get on top of becoming someone who could live up to a the young man who was the heart donor, and simply feel like a better person. Will was dealing with his own grief over the breakdown of a relationship (with what had to be one of the biggest douchebags out) and trusting again.

I like the author's writing style and this is added

General Info:

Crossed Hearts is the first in a new pseudo-series. I'm planning two more books (rather tangentially related to the first, involving minor characters from book one). Book two will be Mando and Jake's, and book three will be for Matt to get his HEA.

And, finally, here's the warning:

I like second chances stories, and this one was a well elaborated slow-burn hurt/comfort read with loveable characters.

Gotta check out Kimber Vale's other books...

In my opinion we have three MCs in this amazing story: Kory, Will and Brandon. Will has two jobs: one as a funeral director at his uncle’s mortuary and one as a part-time paramedic. One night he tries to save young Brandon but even knowing that the teenager did arrive to the hospital alive, we find out later that he didn’t survive. How? Well… it’s then that we meet Kory. He’s a painter but used to be a mod

Kory recovering from a heart transplant meets Will and eventually they get together.
This is a sweet story, not a lot of angst however, I did want to bang their heads together near the end and knock some sense into them.

4.5 Stars for this contemporary M/M romance.

Kory is a man with a new chance at life. He was an artist and gay porn star, but his congenital heart defect led to heart failure. He makes a promise to live a good, clean life if only he can continue living. A new heart has come available, and thought he's grateful, he's also melancholy. He learns that his donor was a teenaged b

Really enjoyed this story. The blurb had me at "secondhand heart" and I was in.

Will, part time paramedic and part time undertaker at his Uncles funeral home, is sweet, caring and looking for his HEA. He takes pride in both parts of his job, but at times they can cross and he meets Kory at the graveside of Brandon Daizer. Kory, ex porn-star, struggling artist and recipient of Brandon heart, falls for Will after a series of meetings and a "suit" date.

Thus begins a slow burn relationsh

The story opens with an interesting twist as paramedics work to save the life of Brandon Diaz. As anticipated, the next scene takes place as a young man comes out of anesthesia— but the man is not Brandon, it’s Kory Vansant, and he’s coming out of anesthesia for the heart transplant operation he’s just undergone— a heart transplant where he’s just received the heart of Brandon Diaz who did not survive

Such a sweet book! I absolutely loved this. Kimber strikes gold again. I loved other books I read from her, and this was no exception.

Will is a mortician working at his uncle's funeral home, who also works part time as an EMT. Will is dumped by his jerk "boyfriend" at the beginning of the book. One night while working his EMT shift, he gets called to the high school football field where a player

*sigh* This story struck close to home because my husband is a Paramedic and the emotional life and death issues that we found in this story are things that are brought home after every shift. The joys of childbirth, the tears of a man or woman struck down in their youth... but when you add to that the fact that Will is not only a paramedic but also a mortician... and had lost his mother to pancreatic cancer at a young age, and I haven't even gotten started on Kory's life issues, yet might lead ...more

I'm disappointed in this book. The blurb painted different picture to me. For the first half of the book it was all morose. The two mc's in my opinion were better off as friends by the way the first half went. I was tired of reading about death. I understand what both mc's went through but it's only so many times we can read through the glum and doom section of Home Depot darling. I think Kory needed a kick in the butt big time. He is rewarded with a second chance at life and it's like he was wa

There are many interesting ideas in this book...almost too many. Kory was a reformed porn star/artist, Will is a paramedic and a mortician, donor Brandon's family meetings, Kory is in massive debt, Will's family backstory has multiple side branches, Brandon and Matt's backstory, and let's not forget Will's relationship with Darryl. I almost needed to take notes to remember what had already happe

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. And I thank the author so much for that opportunity. By 8% I was already deeply engaged in the storyline. The two MCs just reached out to grab me. A slow burn friends to lovers romance about two damaged by life guys that hit all my buttons. Kory and Will are perfect together. I got a chance to read this pre-release and loved it. The author took on some difficult subjects and crafted a superb story about lovers and survivors, and about forgiving yourself. Will is cute as a button, and Kory is...well...he can't help it, he's sexy even when he doesn't try.

If you're a fan of K. Vale's, you'll love this book. If you haven't read anything by her yet (The Shooting Stars series) you're missing out.

I was a little worried about the heart that has a major role in this book and how it crossed Will and Kory. The blurb states how Kory gets this very important organ and what it means to him. Where does this heart tie Will into this tale was my concern. I was hoping Will was not chasing the last living piece of a loved one. I am pleased to say he was not. I also liked how everything worked out for Will and Kory getting together through a character who has a major role, but not a role at all in th ...more

4-4.5 stars.

Will is an part time EMT and mortician, with a big heart full of hopeless romantic dreams, which he pins on his bastard of a boyfriend. with the result of him being single quicker than you can say 'douchebag'.

Kory is an ex-pornstar, living in abject poverty, doing his best to start over and trying to be worthy of the new heart he received from a dead teenager.

I loved Crossed Hearts by author K.Vale. There is humor, love, and a whole lot of self realization. I really couldn’t stop reading it. This is the first book in the Hearts and Scars series and I hope not the last. The emotional connection and love just jumps off the pages of this book. A must read for a real true romance lover.

Moving story of love, regret and redemption

I enjoyed this story of heartbreak, second chances and forgiveness. When Will's ex-boyfriend breaks his heart, he's given a chance to find someone worthy of him. Kory, a recent heart transplant recipient, doesn't consider himself worth much, but Will's love helps him discover he can live and love in a whole new way. Very moving story.

A truly heart felt love story.

The book started with a bit of a tear jerker. Ugh! But it was worth it and it made sense- especially in the long run.

Kory is struggling to be the man that deserves the donor heart he received. And while he seems to think that he is not worthy, I really think that you can tell how much he has has changed. From porn star to man who wants to live his life without regrets.

Will is a hard working, pretty strai

The story is about how Will (part-time paramedic, part-time funeral director) and Kory (former porn star, current starving artist) find each other and fall in love. Kory received a heart transplant as a result of a young man’s death, who was transported to the hospital and then prepared for burial by Will. That sentence exemplifies just a few of the coincidences in the book, w

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Whether or not the events in the book seemed to be too perfect, like Kory's character being the one Will was ogling at the porn shop but never realized it, for example, only put a tiny nick in my five star review. I just didn't care if it didn't seem realistic enough. I was invested in the characters, I loved them for their insecurities and flaws, I cheered for them, and I think it's just plain romantic that Will falls for
