Vivid imagery & a captivating story! Believable, yet (historical) fiction about Simon, who carried Christ’s cross. I came to love each of the hero’s within the story including his wife, the faithful sons to their beloved parents, the believers of Jesus, the little boy on the street in Jerusalem, & of course the Master Healer, Jesus Christ.

Some of the scenes were a bit detailed... maybe even graphic in description, including the mending of the punctured lung & the Roman’s choice of t

I LOVE historical fictional accounts of scripture characters - they bring the scriptures alive! I was excited to find this story.

This was a beautiful fictional story of a rather unknown but memorable New Testament character, Simon of Cyrene. Good characters, mostly, but I was surprised that their foster son Aaron didn't barter more carefully considering he was asking a known THIEF to accompany his "parents" such a distance. Having faith in him was was the extremely unlikely link in this historic

Historical Fiction. Taking Simon of Cyrene, who carried the cross of Jesus, Harrison creates a family, a journey, and a miraculous healing that help to illustrate in some measure the circumstances in the countries surrounding Jerusalem. It is an action-packed, riveting story (sometimes a little too graphic for my taste) that takes us back in time. There is very little interaction with Jesus himself, none until the final few pages, but the story explores one man's (fictional) conversion, capturin ...more

This is a story based on a character that is mentioned only in passing in the Bible. Oh, but what a story it turned out to be. I loved Harrison's depiction of The Cross Bearer and all that he went through to help Jesus Christ out. The story touched my heart and soul. The story will touch each reader differently, but for me it was nice to focus on a character or a person in history that did so much, but had little to no recognition for the weight that he bore to help out someone in need. The stor ...more

I just didn't... enjoy it a much as I thought I would. There was too much of a focus on all that was... violent... for me to fall in love with the story.

They sure abandoned Aaron quickly...
I mean, he only tried harder than anyone else to come on this trip with you, but I understand... you might miss Passover if you wait for him to heal from the wounds he received when he attempted to check in on you and your wife during a storm...
Whatever...

A bit too graphic for my liking...

Beautiful historical fiction of the story of Simon of Cyrene. The author did a great job of creating a plausible background for Simon mixed with a masterful setting. Your emotions will range from delight to tears. A perfect read for those wanting the history around the time of Christ to come to life.

This book offered a perspective on the last few weeks of Jesus' life that I haven't considered before. The book isn't really about the crucifixion per se, but a sweet elderly couple whose lives are changed by just one encounter. It's a short book, but that doesn't lessen its impact.

Well written, realistic. Though a fictional account, it is well researched.
