It’s a good thing I’ve sworn off men, because Old Me would have taken one look at my new boss, and spontaneous heat would have been a real threat.

He’s an alpha and an English nobleman. A mannered man who employed me to restore the library at Beaumont Craven House. He’s impossibly attractive and also straight up impossible. He’s hard to draw out, quiet and broody. His behavior often as confusing as it is mysterious.

Unfortunately for me he has a sweet side I find impossible to resist.

It isn’t long before the Lord’s sad backstory has me going well above and beyond the requirements of my job description.

It’s fine though. It’s a casual arrangement, and I can keep things casual. I definitely can.

It’s just that my body – and heart – don’t seem to agree.

Born Wild is a contemporary MM omegaverse featuring a positively intoxicating alpha, an omega who might have let books like Wuthering Heights and The Secret Garden go to his head, and a swoony love story that will leave you convinced that sometimes fate decides who we love.

I'm Jesse, and I write contemporary and paranormal MM romance.

Whether my characters are born magical, or whether magic is something they make between the sheets, I strive to take the reader into the mind of the narrator. My ultimate goal is to leave the reader feeling like they’ve made a new friend or have spent a few hours flirting with a brand-new book boyfriend.

I love coffee, chocolate and daydreaming, in no particular order. I love conflicted characters, lust at first sight and angst – no seriously, ALL the angst. Give it to me!

An old Manor House in the Yorkshire Moors, a grand library that’s falling apart - and a beautiful Lord Alpha who’s mysterious, if not slightly off.

Add in forced proximity, a sassy, sure-of-himself omega, a bit of fake dating and heaps of very playful and entertaining primal play? Ohohooo, yes please!

Set in a strange, messy but weirdly compelling mix of modern-day omegaverse, old aristocratic traditions and full-on gothic romance vibes, this felt like Bridgerton collided headfirst with Wuthering Heights and once I stopped questioning the logistics and just went with the flow, I had a blast 😍

The story follows omega librarian Jensen, who’s hired to restore the decaying library at Beaumont Craven House, where he quickly finds himself tangled up with the hella mysterious Lord Alpha Alfie.

I really enjoyed the omegaverse lore the author built here. Every omegaverse seems to create its own little ecosystem and it wasn’t any different here - but I genuinely liked some of the twists on classic elements, especially the reveal surrounding Alfie’s secret! And Alfie in general: loved him and that underneath all his detached, cold ways actually lay an utter Romantic with a capital R! 🫠

Expect the usual JHR ott dramatic writing - especially the sex scenes, holy hell 🤣 - but I was in the mood for that so I was vibing!

Also: I haven’t read book 1 (good choice on my part I think) and I had no trouble reading this as a standalone!

So yeah, I had a very entertaining, swoony time - made even better due to the impromptu BR with the lovely Patrícia 🧡 - even if I did skim a bit of the sex at the end there! ✨

“Alfie,” says a small voice from under a shroud of waxed cotton. “You were wrong.”
“Wrong about what?” I ask, amused that he’d choose now, of all times, to point out my failings.
“You were so wrong.” Hands tug gently at my collar, opening it, and a sweet, lovely face nuzzles into my neck. “You don’t smell like sex.”
“Oh no?” […] “What do I smell like then?”
“You smell”—he inhales and hums dreamily—“like home.” 🥹😌

DNF 70%. This one just isn’t for me.

Some of the trouble with this story is that the reader must believe/accept/ understand/empathize that MC Jensen is a martyr who’s been hard done by both alphas and his best omega friend-slash-former boyfriend without having enough (or any) context as to why, not one specific anecdote about why alphas are untrustworthy/rotten, and no details of why he and said bestie broke up years ago.

Basically, lack of specific context/motivation makes omega Jensen look like a judgmental self-absorbed jerk who makes sweeping negative assumptions about the other MC, alpha Alfred, without knowing anything about Alfred apart from he’s a rich alpha.

But because he’s an alpha, he must be…what? I don’t know, because there is no context for why alphas are…dangerous? Untrustworthy? Evil? Oppressors? Vile seducers? And no motivation revealed for why Jensen is so anti-alpha that he’s on suppressants to keep them away/unaware of him. I think Lucien revealed something in book 1, but that was so many books ago I didn’t retain it. I think the two bffs/ex-boyfriends had some kind of anti-alpha pact???

This should have been such a cute read, and you can read my real-time Reading Progress rundown for my reactions; I don’t have the energy to analyze it all again. But I was left confused, baffled, whiplashed, feeling jerked-around, and yes, many times, entertained, by this weirdly underdeveloped story that would have benefitted from having equal page time for both MCs’ points of view rather than relying so much on the inadequate (but I think supposed to be cute??) and ofttimes insufferable Jensen points of view to relay the story. Alfie’s points of view were a much needed, few and far between breath of fresh air amongst Jensen’s prejudiced and leaning into narcissistic attitude.

Jensen has a good moment or two, but mostly? He’s as unlikeable in his own way as Lucien was in book 1. Another omega who—oh, noes—does not want to be oppressed by evil selfish alphas and takes suppressants to keep them at bay and disdains them…without any context as to why…and we’re supposed to empathize with him. 🧐 Oh, and, he knows he’s good-looking and can’t understand why the alpha hero who is his boss doesn’t seem to notice him. 🫩

Despite my continued irritation with Jensen, I had some good times reading this book. It has a great setup…forlorn, sad omega seeking time away from his omega best friend/ex and alpha older brother, who just mated, who finds refuge organizing a rich lord’s library on a vast estate in England. Ooooh! Right up my alley.

(It’s never established what qualifies Jensen to do this, or how it came about that Lord Alfred hired him. I put it together that Jensen is a librarian, because there is a vague reference to “the last librarian,” but, his career and personal background is never clarified. 🧐)

There’s a creative, unique situation with Alfred regarding the kind of alpha he is, and that I was into. Cue all these local omegas showing up having midnight vapors over this mysteriously unscented and unusually dazed and taciturn alpha, it’s all very Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre in atmosphere, with English moors and dark and stormy nights, and then an actually clever fake relationship scheme that magically (really not sure why, physically, given J and A aren’t biologically bonded and don’t have each other’s scents) that makes all the obsessed omegas become un-obsessed, and it could have been a whirlwind winner of a tale. But Jensen annoyed me and contradicted himself so much, or summarized Stuff that happened by Telling us all about it, that any time I got to a strong part, it was so often buried in his nonsense that I could barely smile and enjoy it before my eyes were rolling out of my head again.

Okay. Good things:
Alfred’s HORSE!!! Oh my gosh, Gregory is amazing, and Alfred’s way with him had this horse-person’s heart enthralled.

The fake-relationship element felt organic and helpful to the situation, rather than contrived, silly, and unnecessary, and I enjoyed it.

Alfred’s points of view, especially the midpoint chapter that finally added substance to the story. We needed more of them!

Jensen comfort-nesting. Awww.

The time Jensen quizzes Alfred about books and finds out he really does love them.

Otherwise, I read a different book from most readers. 😞 I got to 70%, after a fun masquerade followed by a serious question followed by such a turn in attitude with Jensen that came from nowhere (he goes from realizing he actually likes Alfred to suddenly needing to go home and I again had whiplash and didn’t follow the abrupt transition in emotions…for the last time.) and realized I just did not care. I’m not rooting for them. I really like Alfred, and love the mythology around the necklaces, and the setting, and…I just do not care at all if Alfred and Jensen get together.

Oh well. Me. Go figure. Take it with all the grains of salt. I was entertained here and there. I blame Jensen. I did not empathize with or care for him; he lost me early and was nowhere near fascinating enough to make up for his insufferableness.

HEA. Omegaverse, with not-well-defined rules, but one creative and fun twist for the alpha that I truly enjoyed. Boss-employee, lord-commoner romance. Mysteriously unscented alpha. Alpha-avoidant omega. No OM action. OM drama from myriad local omegas that Alfred somehow mesmerized (part of the mystery) into thinking they cannot exist without him. And minor melodrama due to Jensen’s snit over his best friend/former boyfriend having mated and fallen in love with Jensen’s older brother. Safe enough for me. I don’t rec this series though, the author’s other books are far more engaging. For me anyway. I don’t not rec it either; if it sounds interesting, hey, most people seem to love it!
I far prefer Jesse H. Reign’s contemporary romances. Something about her omega-alpha dynamic is off and makes the omega characters read as judgmental, self-absorbed prats.

This is a low angst, fun, easy, sweet read. Sometimes it’s the simpler things that make you stay glued to the story. I liked this one soooo much better than book one. And another impromptu buddy read with Pauline, it’s getting a habit that I love ❤️.

And if this isn’t fated mate material, I don’t know what is 🥰🥹🫠❤️

“I have everything, everything, I’ve ever wanted.”It doesn’t deter him in the slightest.
“How about this?” His eyes light up as an idea takes hold. “I go through your Kindle and buy a hard copy of every book you’ve ever rated four or five stars. How about that?”I start shaking my head before I’ve heard him out, but when his words land, my head stops moving of its own accord.
“All the books I’ve rated four or five stars?”He nods as a slow, satisfied smile creeps up his face.
“Yes, all of them. Every single one. I’ll extend the library if need be.”

I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest review.

This was soooo different from Gone Wild!
And not only in the way romance unfolded, but also in the setting, in the overall vibes, but I loved in nonetheless 🩵
There is something so beautiful about Jesse’s writing, I love it in all her books, and here it felt even more poetic 🥰

“When our lips find each other, it’s not a kiss we fall into so much as a kiss that falls into us.”

The slow burn here felt like two soulmates finding their way to each other, not at all like two people brought together by the circumstances. And because of that their HEA felt really earned and satisfying.

Jensen is such a precious baby, hilarious, intelligent, but so vulnerable under all that.
That nest of his was just 💔
And mysterious alpha Alfie, god, how many times my heart was breaking for him 🥺

“When I closed my eyes while you were reading, I felt like I was flying.”

This book had everything, the top tier romantic setting and atmosphere, beauty-and-the-beast worthy library, the tension that grows, soulmates, dramatic rescue mission, hilarious moments and ridiculously hot scenes ❤‍🔥

⭐️ 4.5 stars rounded up! ⭐️

This was even better than the first one, in my opinion.

Jensen is Branson's brother, an omega, who has been upset that he and his ex-boyfriend, Lucien, got together. Partly to get a job in something he likes - restoring a library in the manor of an English lord's home - and partly to get away from it for awhile, he accept a position with Lord Alfred Augustus, an English lord.

When he gets there though, he can't even smell the alpha, and the alpha himself is very closed off, barely says a word to Jensen or even acknowledges him.

This is where for me, it was a bit a slow. Honestly once these two actually started talking and spending time together and falling for each other, I absolutely adored this and couldn't get enough of it, and it was better than the first book even.

But that first part was slow going for me, and it took a bit for me to get invested into this. With barely a scene between them, barely any talking, and Alfie seemingly so uninterested, it was hard to understand how this was going to evolve from where it starts.

But thankfully, it did.

Because Jensen finds out the reason Lord Alfred is the way he is - he is something called a "Casanova" Alpha, where his scent can drive unmated omegas wild, to the point of no return, almost - and he can definitely drive them into a crazy strong heat with just his scent. As this goes on, we see omegas who were "whammied" so to speak by him in the past, and who come back every once in awhile wanting him - and he has to send them away because of it with his Alpha voice.

And so because of that, for almost the past 10 years, he's been on strong suppressants and so Jensen can't even smell his scent or anything like normal.

But in a way, it works wonders for these two. Because they become drawn to each other just for each other's personalities, not their scents or heats/ruts or anything like that. They fall for each other in a normal way. Attraction comes about in a normal way.

Even though Alfie can't fully become aroused or get hard on his suppressants, it's clear he starts to fall for Jensen and want is there even if his body physically can't.

I also love how the author came about these two finding out they're mates. A somewhat believable circumstance happens in order to get Alfie to have to take a pill to reverse the effect of the suppressants for a time in order to scent Jensen out to find him. It works, and they're both able to smell the truth of it.

I also love, though, that Alfie goes back on his suppressants so that Jensen have a clear head when he decides to go into heat and accept the mating bite from Alfie. In a complete opposite way to what happened with Lucien and Branson, these two go into mating with their eyes wide open.

Even their heat sex never seems to go too off the rails - which, part of me wished it had, or that we got to see that.

Where the first book was very sex heavy, this one wasn't as much. It had enough - but once they *both* get to participate in the sex, it's at the very end and it's not as focused on as I would have liked it to be. What we get is still good, don't get me wrong, but I just wanted more. I was also expecting them to lose it, but it never felt like they did. They got lost in their heat and rut, but a more normal amount, in my opinion.

I do also think the epilogue could have been the last chapter, and the epilogue could have been Alfie meeting Jensen's family in the states. They talk about it, but we don't see it. The epilogue felt like a good ending chapter, actually. Less like an epilogue and more like the end of the main story. The end of the actual story was just a *tad* abrupt, so that's another reason for my .5 stars off. An extra chapter and this would have been pretty much perfect.

Because Jensen and Alfie had the best chemistry, and they were SO sweet together. Alfie was so sweet and adorable and the perfect alpha while also showing his dominance at times. It was sexy and sweet, the perfect combination. Jensen was adorable too, and I couldn't get enough of these two. So I guess where the first was more sex focused, this was more romance focused. Not that both didn't have either, but there was a balance that tipped one way more than the other in both.

It's a bummer that the last brother, Wilder, is gonna be an MMM story. Would have liked to have read his book. Oh well.

I look forward to this authors next MM romance. I absolutely can't wait, whether it's omegaverse or no.

This was a definite win and definitely worth a read if you're into omegaverse (honestly, I like how this author has made omegaverse interesting without including mpreg either. Generally I don't see the point of omegaverse without it, but the Alpha/Omega dynamics were more important to the plot in this, so the lack of mpreg was okay for me.)

Until the next one! 🥰

Jensen is 27 and an omega. His best friend and ex-boyfriend just mated Jensen's brother, and he's upset about it, not because he has romantic feelings for Lucien though. He has taken a job in England on a private estate to organize the library, to get his distance. His boss is literally a reclusive Lord and Jensen's fanciful nature is intrigued and he's attracted.

Alfie, the lord, is 38 and an alpha. He is a special type of alpha that makes all omegas think he is their mate. He is a romantic and he wants to find his mate, but he got tired of hurting people, so he has gone on suppressants so that he doesn't hurt anyone else.

For a number of weeks, they barely spend any time together, but they are both intrigued and enjoy what time they do spend together. Jensen goes from being on his best reserved behavior to letting his crazy fly free and Alfie is definitely entertained. They realize they have a love of books in common. Jensen offers to fake date Alfie so that people think he's taken and leave him alone. But then Alfie offers to give Jensen sexual favors to make things up to him for what Jensen has been doing for him. And of course Jensen gives in. But then there's some drama about whether Alfie is going to go off of his suppressants, whether they could really be mates, that has Jensen almost giving up on them.

This was a really enjoyable romp of a story. There was a lot of humour to it. Jensen's mind was a hilarious place. I loved the love of books in this story. There are definitely some moments that will make book lovers swoon, very relatable moments.

Page 74 - anyone else feel cheated that we didn't get to see Jensen's epic word vomit? We just got the last couple words. I would have applauded 10 pages of that word vomit, it would have been wild and fun.

My biggest complaint... Jensen is American and not nobility, but his internal monologues are very very British and are giving high faluting nobility vibes. That annoyed me.

I disliked the lore of the mating necklaces. It feels so preplanned and it doesn't fit in to me... Mating occurs during moments of passion, which should be more impulsive and less scripted. And why put something on that will be a restrictive obstacle that must be ripped off for the mating bite? Omegas get sensitive to light and temperature and all this other stuff in this world the author built, you would think that something restrictive around their neck would be abhorrent. It seems like it belongs more during a ceremonial wedding rather than a mating

Some notable moments:

"I swear to God, I think this man might mean it. I think he’s seriously standing in my hallway, in a velvet dinner jacket no less, with twigs from a conifer hedge stuck in his hair, offering to pummel my prostate because I happen to be sleeping under his roof. And you know what, when I think about it, he bloody well should. I’ve gone above and beyond the scope of my job description big time tonight. I’ve put on a spectacular performance, I’ve chased away obsessed omegas left, right, and center, and I’ve dealt with their awful families as decisively. He’s absolutely goddamn right that I should get a reward."

"Since then, he’s wrapped me in a pile of blankets and has made me drink so much tea that if I’m forced to have any more, my treatment will almost certainly meet the definition of waterboarding, despite how well-intentioned."

"Alfie did a one-eighty immediately, his cheeks pinkening with pleasure as he pulled me onto his lap and clutched me to his chest like a much-loved toy. “You think we’re highly compatible?” he cried. “Oh, thank you. That’s so nice to hear. We think we’re compatible too, but it’s so reassuring to hear it from a medical professional.”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

This was a completely different book from the previous one! It was a lovely, slow burn romance with quite a few curious and mysterious plot elements to keep one engaged. I loved when they finally came together in the end. It was beautiful! But despite the abundance of it in the first book, the spice was really toned down in this one. Even the heat scenes were short and sweet. I would have liked to see a bit MORE spice this time! The story was amazing though, and I loved it. I look forward to the next one!

BL omegaverse being the first romance I’ve managed to finish since 1 May is such a vibe. The hero we needed.

TROPES & VIBES:
- Hilarious inner monologue
- Modern, but kinda historical, romance
- Fake dating
- “Little mouse”
- The ending was a little sweet for my taste, but I’m sure that says more about me than this book
- *id lost hope in love, until you*

Born Wild by Jesse H. Reign, the second book in the Wild Hearts series, was another absolute addiction for me. I completely devoured this book and couldn’t put it down.

Just like with the first book in the series, Jesse H. Reign hooks you from the very first page, even though this one feels very different in atmosphere, aesthetics and slow burn, it still has that special magic that keeps you completely obsessed.

The story follows Alfie, a mysterious English noble alpha, and his employee Jensen, a hopeless romantic, classic literature lover and total bookworm, who gets hired to restore the library at the House.

Their dynamic was everything to me.
The romance develops slowly and beautifully, in such a natural and satisfying way. You can feel these two soulmates finding each other piece by piece throughout the story.

I also absolutely loved the Wuthering Heights vibes and all the references inspired by classic literature. The whole book feels elegant, melancholic and slightly gothic in the best possible way.

Of course, it’s all wrapped in Jesse H. Reign’s signature lyrical and poetic writing style, while still giving us humor, tension, amazing chemistry, spicy moments and a truly beautiful romance.

That was surprisingly fun. After the first of the series, I was pretty much expecting to be disappointed. Maybe that was helpful? Because this is total fluff written for the heart of every reader of old school romantic British fiction. Bring on your Mr Darcy, Heathcliff, Mr Rochester and whatever broody historical romance hero you like, Alfie is the stand in for them all, just as Jensen is the proxy for all us heart eyed book nerds who wished to swan out into self confidence as we age. I had so much fun reading this despite being on my second cold in less than a month. And unlike the first book, the emphasis was on the slow build up of the relationship, or whatever can pass for slow burn in an ABO/heat-destined romance.

Still, I don’t quite understand the titles? Wild I guess relating to the primal play in this episode, but what it has to do with the tone of the series is beyond me as it’s a kinda silly, light hearted series about very urban feeling characters. Sure, the ABO stuff—I guess that’s wild??

And I can’t help myself when I read a book that is in an alternate universe but that is exactly like our universe but different. My inner nerd just won’t shut up about how if things were really different, then there wouldn’t be the same pop culture references and history and all that because you know, butterfly wings and all that.

But! Still fun. If you’re into cozy/fluffy MM ABO modern contemporary romances.

(And if there were a Jane Austen in this universe, would she be an Alpha writing about how challenging it is to be a female alpha or an omega? Was Elizabeth the alpha and Darcy the omega? What about the Brontë sisters? Oh, Emily was totally an alpha, wasn’t she… Jane Eyre was and will always be an omega in any universe though. Poor Jane.)

4.5 Stars rounded up

This was a solid 5 star read until the last 15-20% where the sweet, kick-my-feet, swoony feelings tapered off into endless sex (yes I get it's omegaverse and there are heats and whatever but it draaaaaaaaged on and was way too full of them waxing poetic about how soul shattering their love was). The earlier sex scenes were so much better balanced - sexy, flirty, fun and not too long. I wish the last portion of the book struck a better balance - I skimmed a lot tbh.

I contemplated giving this a 4 for the last bit alone but Alfie and Jensen were really just so, so adorable. I highlighted so many things and was squealing to friends about how cute their relationship was for most of the book.

I will also say I did not read book 1 of this series because it didn't sound up my alley but this one was really sweet and funny and who doesn't dream of living in a beautiful manor on the moors with a super sexy man of the house who chases you sometimes for fun, actually GIGGLES, and makes tea for you while you read to him then proceeds to finger you into oblivion?! 🤣

3.5 stars, rounded up. I feel a bit let down after the wild eroticism of the first book. Whereas that was a crazy smutfest, this book has a far more romantic bent. It's kind a tongue-in-cheek gothic romance about a quirky omega librarian starting his new job in a giant English country manor where he is forced to spend time with his handsome, mysterious alpha boss. I like how every omegaverse book just has its own lore, like no two omegaverses are the same, and this is no different - our alpha lord has a strange affliction that Jensen, our plucky protagonist has to figure out and it kind becomes the central plot point of this book. It's also quite funny that this book is set in our current universe, but make it a/b/o, because there are some some name checks that are pretty hilarious - like imagining Bear Grylls as either an alpha or omega. As far as characters go, Jensen is charming and funny, but his internal dialogue was a lot and I felt a little claustrophobic in his head at times. We do get Alfred's perspective as well, but mostly he was there as object of Jensen's deepest fantasies. It was very romantic though, and very, very slow burn. We only get some heat-related smut in the last 20% or so and it was a huge let-down, as well as being overwritten and corny. That said, I did enjoy the book for the most part. I was amused by Jensen and found the plot pretty entertaining. Hopefully we'll get more in this particular universe.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 because Jesse Reign has given me too much joy over the years for me to be fully objective.

I read omegaverse intermittently because there is so much of it and, let’s be honest, most of it delivers the same things: D/s dynamics, possessive MCs, lots of sex, high emotion, low complexity. Which is fine! Sometimes that is exactly what I want. A palate cleanser.

This book falls squarely into that category. I enjoyed it well enough while reading, but I don’t have many lingering thoughts, which is maybe the issue. Jesse’s books at their best stick with me because they’re funny as hell, emotionally sharp, and hot as fuck. Jensen’s internal monologue had flashes of that signature humor, but nowhere near peak Jesse for me.

The premise worked, but I found myself wishing the middle would move along a little faster. Alfie suppressing his alpha tendencies for such a huge chunk of the book started to drag, and I kept waiting for things to click.

I think Wilder’s book is next, and of course I will read it. But I’ll admit I’m hoping Jesse circles back to writing something meatier soon. I don’t begrudge any author the desire to write uncomplicated fluff (God knows I consume enough of it), but I genuinely think her talents are being underutilized here. She’s capable of books with much more emotional depth and sharper characterization, and selfishly, I hope she shares that version of her writing with us again.

And just like that, this has been another 5-star-read 🤯

I adored Gone Wild so much, and I started this book without much thinking about what to expect. This was such a soulful, beautifully written story and I was captured immediately by Alfie's story and background, since it was something very peerless.

Jensen starts to work for Alfie, or Lord Augustus, and he is immediately drawn to him, although he would totally deny that. There are some things that Alfie is hiding at first, and things change fast after the two of them don’t want to be separated anymore.

I adore omegaverse stories so much, add primal play and cute nicknames and it's immediately perfect in my opinion 🤍

Good Second Book

I liked the 2nd book in this omega verse world that Reign has created. Not as much as Lucien and Branson’s book, Gone Wild, but still a different approach within a theme. I didn’t mind the nicknames, little mouse and alpha. The attempt at a gothic Wuthering Heights setting on moors and in a large British estate was purposeful for the backdrop to the dreamer that is Jensen and the aristocratic ‘arsehole’ that is Alfie. The sex wasn’t as scorching in this book either. But it’s a solid book with Reign’s humour plus some unexpected pathos.

This was a wonderful next in series. I loved getting Jensen’s story after Lucian fell in heat with his brother.

Allie and Jensen are perfect. I was a big fan of them ‘falling’ as people, not so much as alpha and omega to start. Allie is a broody man who just needed Jensens life and golden retriever vibes breathes into him

This is a slow burn but when it hits, it really freaking hits. And it’s so delicious, bring them puppy pads.

Jesse knows what I want, and she just keeps delivering!

Jensen has big feelings, currently about his alpha brother mating his best friend. When he sulks off to Yorkshire to restore the library of a reclusive English lord, he becomes intrigued by the man’s beauty, lifestyle, and strange muted quality. Alfie, our beleaguered lord alpha, is equally fascinated by the omega Yank, but has dedicated himself to a lifetime of bachelorhood. Add one fake dating scheme and cue the shenanigans!

Repressed aristocrat meets chaotic American is a favorite of mine, and Alfie is as repressed as they come. He’s also deeply sweet and wildly hot. Seriously, the primal play in this book is some of the best I’ve read. We see a friendship develop between them that is just downright fun, as well as brimming with sexual tension. Featuring a unique scenario of alpha x omega dynamics, the book is a delightful snack.

Highly recommend for fans of omegaverse, forced proximity, and fake dating. This is the second book in the series and could be read as a standalone, but you really don’t want to miss Branson and Lucien in book one!

I adored this different quirky story! It feels almost like the author’s love letter to romance novels. There are Harlequin type period piece elements to it with the English countryside, Lord of the manor, and masquerade balls. There’s also a significant love of books shared between the two characters and literary references discussed which I found v endearing.

Then there’s the little bit of a twist in the alpha/omega dynamic with a forbidden element and soulmate vibes underneath it all. It’s OTT and a bit silly and I couldn’t put it down.

This is an omega-verse story that doesn’t rely on the fated element for the love connection and I adore this story for that.

Jensen ❤️ Alfie (Lord Alfred Augustus)

Jensen (omega) takes a job in England restoring the library in an old manor. The Lord of the manor is an alpha male who is stiff, formal and difficult to read. He also, for reasons we learn later, has no scent.

It is the story of these two men getting to know each other slowly and falling in love before realizing that they are fated mates.

😊 No third act breakup
🗣️No miscommunication driving the plot. Each share their stories w each other and, over time, feel safe together
👬🏽MM
❤️Gentle but intimidating alpha and chatty omega
😊Lots of humor. Jensen’s inner dialogue was so much fun to read.
👍Small moments - They are both on suppressants which allows them to put their biology aside and actually get to know each other as people first. Lots of small moments - the chasing thru the grounds/house, reading books together, all the awkward meals, etc.
🫣No OM/OW - There are these people that show up at the house wrecked and looking for Alfie (see below in spoilers). He is a bit distraught over it and we learn why. Jensen is a bit jealous but none of these people mean anything to Alfie.
➡️Strangers to mild dislike (Jensen) to intrigue (both) to friends to mates
😊Nicknames - my little mouse
😊Humor - as they got to know each other better, they genuinely liked each other and laughed together; seeing Alfie’s progression from stiff and formal to fun and playful was everything
🎭Pretend dating - Alfie is a lord and very sought after for a love match in his circle, which he detests. Jensen agrees to go with to various soirées as his Omega mate.
🏰Forced proximity - Jensen is living in Alfie’s Manor while he renovates the library.
❤️Fated mates but also bone deep love based on mutual interests and genuine care
🌶️Spice - this is a bit of a slow burn with some action along the way and then them getting together at the end for Jensen’s heat. Mild Primal play; knotting; bonding.
🥰All the yummy omegaverse stuff - growling, possessiveness, OTT care and worrying, the white arc when someone is lying and all the colors when they’re happy. Alfie as the happy possessive and obsessive alpha is pure joy
👥Dual POV; mostly Jensen in the beginning and then more Alfie toward the second half. HEA; mated

I really really loved this story. It’s corny and lovely and gooey and over the top romantic. 🥰 I hope you like it.

Spoilers ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️. Don’t read if you don’t want to know major spoilers

We learn that Alfie has something called the Casanova gene which makes omegas fall in love w his scent and believe that he is their fated mate. He does not reciprocate those feelings and feels compassion and guilt for their situation. For years he dreamed of finding his fated mate only to leave all these poor souls in his wake. For that reason, he gave up on finding love and went on suppressants. We see the toll it takes on him but also how it allows him and Jensen to know each other as people and believe in their bond before they “know” it’s real. There is a third act situation where Jensen is in danger and Alfie goes off his suppressants to he can use alpha senses to track him. What we already suspect becomes clear and we see their fated mate connection.

Oooh, this one was a bit different from the first one but oh so much sexier and hot. I loved the whole mysterious vibes surrounding Alfie.

Him being a different kind of alpha was such a brilliant twist to the story. I’ve never heard of the gene Alfie had in omegaverse but I loved the way Jesse used it. Having an alpha that can potentially make omegas go berserk because they weren’t close to him was such an interesting twist.

Granted, it sucked but the omegas being affected by it was hot. I’ve always know alphas are powerful and commanding but an alpha like Alfie puts regular alphas to shame.

Jensen wanted to get away from the disappointment of his brother and best friend/ex boyfriend mating. He needed some time to deal with how betrayed he felt by them. Moving to London sure seemed drastic but the more land between him and his family, the better.

He just wasn’t expecting to meet such an impressive man even if his personality left a lot to be desired. Alfie was exactly Jensen’s type, only he couldn’t smell him. Jensen had never been attracted to an alpha without smelling them first. Until Alfie.

I loved how even without recognizing each other’s scent, their chemistry was off the charts. The chasing game they played was all kinds of hot. And then that library scene 🥵

Alfie really tried not to fall for Jensen giving his history, but Jensen made it extremely difficult. Jensen was exactly the type of mate he imagined if he allowed himself to.

Everyone only saw an attractive, desirable man, but Jensen saw more than the superficial aspects of Alfie. He saw the need to be loved for him, not for the pleasure he could provide others.

𝑰’𝒎 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒔𝒊𝒅𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒅𝒐.

I’m really loving this series. I’m so glad Jesse decided to venture into omegaverse because it’s been so good!

What in the Jane Austin did I just read? Omg Jensen and Alfie’s story was so swooony. I constantly imagined this in a Donwton Abby, nowadays kinda thing, but make it omegaverse. Jensen takes a job in England in hopes to escape his ex boyfriend and brother becoming mates. He is deeply hurt and lost. He accepts a job arranging/organising a library at this manor (sorry I just read it, but forgot the name) anywho there he meets the alpha Alfie and he is very peculiar alpha. Slowly their interactions became more friendly and worm. Ugghhh it was sweet and painful, but the more time they spent together, the more I was screaming at my e-reader. I loved when they were together in the library and when Jensen read stories to Alfie, or when Alfie recited favourite quotes from books. 🫠 I loved the thoughtfulness and care they had for each other. And there were a lot of funny bits, especially when Jensen first opens to Alfie and basically word vomits some things, I was cackling. Great read I can’t wait for the next when it eventually comes out. Oh my days what a ride!!!

Well that was just delightful! Definitely much more my vibe of omegaverse book than book 1.

Look if you’re like me and LOVE the second book in Alessandra Hazard’s omegaverse books (aka the one where it’s like Antony’s book on Bridgerton but with mm omegaverse) then this book is for you!

Jensen flees to the misty moors of Yorkshire after the end of book one to live out his best beauty & the beast meets Jane Austen fantasy! Luckily the stately home which he moves into and becomes the librarian/restoration specialist for is home to a mysterious Alpha…who calls Jensen “little mouse”

Anyways I ate this up in a single day, it was so fun! I actually liked that it was a less sex-focused plot than book one as well. Because the relationship growth & development felt more purposeful and less “thrown together due to a surprise heat”

Love, love, love

Born Wild by Jesse H. Reign is book 2 in the Wild Hearts series. I have been waiting for this book since reading book 1 and it surpassed my expectations! I absolutely adored Jensen. An omega who lets his romantic gothic fantasies run rampant? We may have a few things in common. Lord Alfie was a little more difficult to get a read on (a brooding mysterious nobleman—yes please), but it was well worth the wait to see what was really going on. I love the parallels to all of Jensen’s favorite books and the time spent together in the library were some of my favorite moments of the books. It would have been nice to see Alfie meet Branson and Lucy. I really hope that we get to see Wilder’s (and Christian’s) story. This has been such an enjoyable series. I do love anything that Jesse brings us.

I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.

I usually love stories by this author, but unfortunately that's not the case here. This book left me feeling incomplete. The plot is interesting, I like the entire Alpha-Omega universe, but just as the first story had some uncertainties, this one does too. The first book was too focused on internal monologues and not much action, but this story has action and a development of events, but it happens quickly.
The problem is that this story is well-written but still leaves me with nothing. I wasn't passionate about the characters or the story, it just left me with superficial feelings. I wasn't even curious to continue reading. In short, it's not one of those books you read in one sitting and get excited about.
The characters and the development of events are bland. In short, there are Jesse stories like "Heart" that leave me with something, but this story doesn't.

4.5 stars rounded up. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I read it in one sitting. Literally. I just couldn't put it down, it was so engaging, the characters were great and the setting was stunning. I'll admit I'm a bit surprised by the small amount of smut we get here, but when it happened it was so hot!! The ending felt a bit abrupt, I would've preferred a few chapters more, but honestly I enjoyed this one a lot, so... 🩷
Can't wait for the next book!!

Pretty great low angst and sweet omegaverse! Not as instalovey as the first book in the series. I also loved the idea behind Alfie’s designation. Kind of felt like Beauty and the Beast 😀

Once again, references to real books (Pride and Prejudice) makes zero logical sense to me considering it’s a different world, but whatever… it’s not that big of a deal.

Enjoyment (5) 4

another must read from JHR. Only she can write a sickeningly sweet love story and make it absolutely filthy at the same time. I loved Lord Augustus and his little mouse, it was the perfect escape from reality story.

It was pretty ok. Heat level not like bk 1 but still was good with a fairytale feeling.
