This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the fourth book in the Soldiers of Fortune series. I have read some of the other books in this series before picking up this book. I listen to the audiobook for this book, and I really enjoyed this audiobook. The romance in this book was an age gap romance which sometimes drives me crazy, but it did not bother me. The suspense was a slow built one, but I enjoyed the slow built up it had. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Eu estava extremamente excitado naquele dia.

Fast-paced, romantic suspense

Typical Palmer romance where an older man is educating a younger innocent female. Enjoyable cast of characters with other minor love stories in the background. The suspense and criminal element plot was enjoyable but I wish there had been more focus on the relationship. However, it was nice to finally learn Eb Scott's history since he is often seen in other Palmer novels. The follow-up to this story is Cy Parks' where this criminal plots resumes.

This one was definitely not one of Diana's best works. And even though I love her, I'm not blind. The book wasn't as bad as my usual 1-star books, but I didn't feel like it deserved a 2-star either. There was nothing special about this book, ya feel me? Plus I feel very criticising today.

description

Anyways, about the story. There was way, way, way too much talking about guns and covert ops and the drug lord Manuel Lopez. If she'd've concentrated more on the romance between the two main characters and less on the mystery/suspense theme, I'd have liked it better. Most of the time I was just bored to tears.

description

I also didn't feel for the characters the way I usually do in DP's novels. The way I get all hyper and worked up and feel the hurt and pain and anger along with the characters? Yeah. None of that happened.

description

Another thing. I usually hate novels where the main characters have bad history together. But Diana Palmer pulls off this theme really well. So well, in fact, that I like that in her novels. But this time it really was awful. (Mainly because she didn't concentrate on the romance.)

description

So...yeah. Not her best novel.

On another topic:

I am SO glad I have my .gifs back!

Unfortunately I'm traveling again.

Eb Story is the first book in the Soldiers of Fortune Trilogy.

Ebenezer Scott, a retired Mercenary, returned to Jacobsville to start anew and saw the girl he left behind. It had been six years since he and Sally spoke. She was seventeen when he sent her running away from him. He couldn't really blame her. He'd left her with some painful emotional scars. And now, she doesn't have any idea that her whole family is in a great deal of danger, and she was her best hope of survival. But both Eb and Sally must battle demons from the past before they can learn to trust in love.

I enjoyed Eb's story but not as much as I enjoyed Cy Parks. Eb was your typical Diana Palmer's hero - taciturn, sexy, a lot older than the heroine, possessive but not verbally abusive to the heroine. I liked that he was sorry for the way he treated the heroine before, but I totally understand why he did that. Sally was just seventeen then. But even then, Sally was important to him. She had been the first and only person who could thwart his black moods. And even she was away from home, and he kept in touch with her Aunt to get news of Sally, of where she was, what she was doing, of her plans. I know it's staking, but sweet nonetheless. He's always expected that she'd come back to him one day or that he'd go to her despite the way they'd parted.

Overall, Mercenary's Woman was a fun read filled with passion and danger. Plus, Jessica, Sally's Aunt, and Dallas (another mercenary) love story were interesting parts of the book. I enjoyed their banters and actually rooting for them to get their happy ending. I also enjoyed meeting future characters such as Micah and Cord. And I loved the way Ms. Palmer incorporated her soldiers with her Long Tall Texans.

She saved all her love for him AFTER he brutally rejected her six years ealier. You meet up with some of the old characters and the storylines for some of the new characters begin to develop.

I was not satisfied with the whole Jessica/Dallas thing and keep hoping I learn more, but I can't recall hearing much about them in the later books that I've read.

This one was just ok for me. Kinda blah actually given how explosive and passionate some of the earlier books were.

Oh, well. Cy is next. Their backstories should add some interest to the next book.

I liked it. There are two stories in this book but it's not anthology. Simply one main story and the other one. Good, I liked them both. I want to see more fire and angry-feeling in Jess and Dallas' story though, I think their story is so lack of attention. I need more.

So far so good, I love Diana Palmer so much it hurts.

Mercenary’s Woman by Diane Palmer was first published in 2000 and is part of the Soldier of Fortune series.

Sally Johnson is a teacher who lives with her blind aunt and young nephew. When their lives are suddenly in danger, Ebenezer Scott comes to protect them; however, Sally is hesitant to accept his help. Seven years before, she had come to him in love, and he hurt her and pushed her away. Now, she has to trust her love in him to protect her and her heart. He builds a wall of fellow mercenaries to protect Sally and her family; the story builds up to the kidnapping and then is very anti-climactic. I found the resolution very unsatisfying; in the real world, a drug dealer isn’t going to take someone’s word and then just drop the whole matter.

As I said before, this book was first published in 2000, so there were a few things in this book that wouldn’t really happen today. For example, Sally’s car breaks down in the middle of the night, and she doesn’t have a cell phone to call for help. The romance is rated G; she swoons and almost faints with her love for him. It is more like a book I read in high school; it’s not a mature romance.

Based on this book, I wouldn’t read another book by this author, but the narrator was top-notch.

Mercenary’s Woman AUDIO by Diana Palmer is a short, but sweet, cowboy romance featuring a buttoned up mercenary, Ebenezer Scott, and a young and naive woman, Sally Johnson. Sally had come on to him years earlier, when she was only seventeen. Eb knew better and pushed her off, causing more hurt than he could have imagined. Now, here she was again and the intervening years had made a huge difference. But, he had work to do before he could claim her.

Palmer writes good characters, no matter how short the story. Possibly a little unrealistic, but surely appeals to the romantic. Sally was a mature character now, realizing that this romance was never going to happen, no matter how much she wanted it. Eb knew that a woman like Sally could never live the life he had been leading. Good characters, good plot. Enjoyable listened

The narrator is Todd McLaren, who as always does an excellent job, except for his attempts to do women’s voices. They are far from believable and made them sound different than what they were. Next time, a straight read would be better.

I was invited to listen to Mercenary’s Woman by Harlequin Audio. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #HarlequinAudio #ToddMcLaren #DianaPalmer #MercenarysWoman

I haven’t read the previous books in the series and don’t think it would change my opinion on the audio book. The story seems very dated, I just couldn’t get into it. Eb is a mercenary who years later winds up protecting his neighbor from a drug lord. Also now living there is Sally, a sweet innocent who years ago had a crush on him. He never forgot about her, but drove her away since she was only 17 years old. Now years later and times are different he wonders if there could be a future together but first he must protect her cousin and Jessica son from danger.
The story just dragged on, normally the narrator will grab and hold my interest but not this time. I had enjoyed many books by this author but was a miss this time for me. Thank you #NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All opinions expressed are my honest opinion.

I purchased a copy of the steamy book Mercenary’s Woman; Soldiers of Fortune Book 4 by Diana Palmer, and this review was given freely.
Drama and action-packed with an “honorable criminal” and touches of humor. Ends Happily.
School teacher Sally Johnson is caught up in the revenge scheme of drug lord Manuel Lopez, who attempts to force her Aunt Jessica to name her informant, resulting in Sally’s need to rely on the man who hurt her as a teenager, her aunt’s friend, the Mercenary Ebeneezer Scott to protect her, her recently blind aunt, and her young cousin.
18+ for violence and intimate scenes.

Sally and Ebb
This is the story of Eb, a retired mercenary that came back to Jacobsville to starr a mercenary training compound. However, he will come face to face with the girl he hurt and left behind. Sally is a teacher that will have to learn to live in the same town with the man she always loved but rejected her. It could have been a better story is there was any romance! The main book revolved in saving Sally's cousin and didn't concentrated enough on the main characters. I was more interested in Dallas and Jess's story and I think they deserved a book of their own.

I love this book. It's very calm as there isn't any big drama between main characters. The other woman isn't even other woman and just shows up once, Eb also isn't a dick towards Sally. For Palmer it's a rarity. Most drama comes from secondary relationship and I that's mainly why they were added. I definitely could do without them. I also find it interesting that when Palmer's positive character cheats on their SO it's understandable because they just couldn't help themselves, but when her character gets cheated on the cheater is the worst person on Earth.

Ebenezer Scott is retired military. Sally Johnson is the local schoolteacher; when she was a teenage, she had a crush on Eb. Eb managed to scare her off; now that she is older, he is interested in her. When Sally is in danger Eb intends to keep her safe and she is not happy about letting him to her life.
Narrator did a good job; just not used to a man.

Honestly it felt like it was just written to be written. Not much in depth writing about the romance. In fact not much romance at all. At least the hero wasn’t a jerk!
DP definitely has better books out there.

Not a huge fan of romance novels. It went from "don't talk to me," too "I do," I'm under 30 pages. I liked some of the visuals, but this wasn't for me.
