SEAL of Protection #5

Protecting Cheyenne

Rate this book
Living in Southern California, Cheyenne was used to seeing hot military men as she went about her daily business. An anonymous encounter at the grocery store cemented her crush on one such man. He was big, built, and incredibly easy on the eyes, but it wasn't as if he would ever really notice her.

Always in control of any situation, Faulkner “Dude” Cooper knows explosives. As a bomb expert, he's lived through many high pressure situations. Disfigured by a bomb while on a mission, he's used to being looked at with pity. When he's called to a local supermarket to assist the local PD, the last thing he expects to find is a generous act of kindness performed by a beautiful, amazing woman. Enchanted by her selflessness in the face of danger and intrigued by her actions to save civilians she didn't know, Dude’s hooked.

Dude was able to save Cheyenne from the group of thugs trying to take her life, but when the past comes back to haunt them both, sometimes having the knowledge and the desire isn't enough to beat the countdown of the clock.

**Protecting Cheyenne is the 5th book in the SEAL of Protection Series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but it’s recommended you read the books in order to get maximum enjoyment out of the series.

Author Susan Stoker has done it again! Every book in the Seal of Protection series has been great and #5 is no exception.

Faulkner "Dude" Cooper is a Bomb Ordnance Specialist with the Seals team. Dude is cool and calm under pressure, always in control. Seeing his teammates fall in love with women he describes as strong makes him long for a woman of his own. He didn't think he would find her in a dangerous situation with bombs strapped to her body!

Cheyenne Cotton is a 911 operator who does not see herself as a hero. She is quiet and keeps to herself. She has been put down by a neglectful mother and a jealous older sister. She can't see how much she impacts the lives of those who call in to report an emergency.

When Dude and Cheyenne meet, it is hot, hot, hot! Can Dude make her see that what she does matters and makes a difference? Can Cheyenne let Dude have the control be needs? You will truly love reading this book to find out.

But that's not all Dude and Cheyenne need to look out for. There is danger waiting for them. Someone has been watching and waiting for the right time to strike back at them. Will they survive? Will anyone get hurt? You have to read the book to find out what else is in store for them!

I HIGHLY recommend reading all the books in the Seal of Protection series. It will give you background on the Seal team members and each succeeding book is better than the last!!!!

I cannot wait for the next one!!!!!

OK, I'm out.

I LOVED Book 1, thought that Book 2 was OK, despised Book 3 but thought maybe it was just a blip. Book 4 was a huge disappointment but I decided to give Book 5 a go, just because I had so liked Book 1 and I felt a weird loyalty to Stoker. Mistake.

IMHO, Susan Stoker has now written the same book 5 times. She's found a 'winning' formula and refuses to deviate from it. This formula goes as follows:

- unattractive, poor, insecure, all-alone heroine.
- sexy, gorgeous, alpha male.
- they meet and of course, the H is all gaga for her for reasons never fully explained but our shy and 'I'm sooooooo not worthy of you!' h runs screaming and all bashful. Sexy H pursues, doormat/insecure h falls in to his arms.
- they have so-so sex. Stoker is not good at writing sex scenes, sorry to say, and I feel little-to-no chemistry between her characters. No heat. Ever.
- some crisis has to threaten to tear them apart but the drama is always so laughably unrealistic and contrived, I can't stand it.
- meh reunion.

You read this once, it's fine. You read it twice, you roll your eyes. You read it over and over and you wonder why nobody else has noticed that the writer is totally unoriginal.

Now this is all on me and I know it. I should have stopped reading after Book 3. I guess I just thought that SS would have more respect for her fans and start making a genuine effort considering that she's making so much money off us. But her idea of 'effort' is to keep the exact same H and h in Book 5 and throw in some BDSM. Not character development, not someone we've never seen before. Oddly enough, the BDSM didn't add any heat to the luuurrrrve scenes for me, either, since as always, SS writes in such a stilted and juvenile way, I feel like it's very 'Insert Item A in to Slot B'. It's so clinical.

So, yeah. I'm out. I know that romance books aren't great literature and all that, but it's surely not too much to ask for some creativity?

Dude is now and forever one of my BBFs. Words cannot sufficiently express how much I loved this book. I loved everything about it. This is my favorite book of the series, which is saying a lot. I didn't think anyone could top Cookie. I was wrong. Dude is perfect. Cheyenne doesn't understand her worth because she's never had anyone show her how special she is, that she matters. Her Mom and sister only care about materialistic things, therefore they miss how special Cheyenne is where it counts. But things will soon get better for her. Dude is, as always, awesome. We see him hanging out with the guys and their women and get a look at his inner thoughts. He wants what the others have. He and Benny (and Tex) are the only single guys left. While they're hanging out Dude gets called in for a work situation. This call ends up changing the rest of his life. He meets Cheyenne. Their relationship is beautiful and they are perfectly matched. They fill the missing parts of each other, make each other whole. I highly recommend you read this book, this series. You can read this as a standalone, but I suggest reading the whole series as it's fantastic. Now, I'm off to reread this book because it is just that good. *applies flavored chapstick and scented lotion* Read the book, you'll get that statement. Oh, because you'll be so thankful you read this book, keep in mind I'm not big on flowers or chocolate. So I'll except Amazon gift cards in lieu of those. ;-) Happy reading!

*** Wow, I love a Susan Stoker story!! *** I love Cheyenne and Faulkner in this book, they are an awesome couple! This is a truly wonderful romance packed with action, suspense, and compassion. He is drawn to her sweetness, strength and compassion for others. Faulkner "Dude" Cooper SEAL, works with the Bomb Ordinance Squad, and has shown up at the grocery store robbery because the bad guys strapped a bomb to someone in the store, Cheyenne. She's used to handling emergency situations, but usually on the phone as a 911 Operator. He likes her need to save others, and she doesn't shy away from his scarred hand with partially missing fingers. She considers it proof he's a hero who'll lay his life down for another. Very entertaining and tough to put down, you will love this story as much as I did. It unfolds beautifully, and they get to know each other well before hopping into bed, but when they do it's sizzling !! "Shy" is the first woman he brings to meet his team and their wives. She loves that he gave her a nickname, she's never had one. Her family is awful to her, and we get to see her stand up to them, and later, Faulkner does also. I look forward to more of this author's tales, and I think Benny "Kason" is next. These are stand alone stories, but so much more enriching if you have the background and the knowledge of the wonderful characters here. This is a win-win book. I highly recommend ! E N J O Y !!!

another old read rating and review

3.5

The heroine Cheyenne has a serious wrong place wrong time moment when she goes grocery shopping only to end up a hostage with a bomb strapped to her. The hero Faulkner better known as Dude and bomb expert comes to her rescue. They are a little hesitant of each other at first about a relationship but once that little blip is over and it happens quickly it is all smooth sailing for them except for the criminals want to get back at them from the robbery gone bad.

Now I really like the hero and heroine. They were good together and I thought they were sweet and hot moments. The only problem I had is the girlfriend posse. I already didn't like Caroline from book one and she had a moment here that not only felt extreme fake to me with Cheyenne then she turned around and pissed me off with her bitch comment to the heroine in regards to her relationship with the hero. Girl butt the f*ck out. Who died and made you queen of everyone in this series. Can you tell I don't like Caroline??? No, I don't like Caroline because she seems fake and I also don't like this pedestal it seems like she is on with everyone in the series. Problem big time for me.

Okay not that my rant is over, I did like it because of the couple and that is what saved it for me.

This novel can only be described as rushed. Compared to the other novels in the series, this one was a real letdown. Yes, it’s formulaic as are all the others. However, unlike the others, it felt like the author took the easy route. I thought that Dude and Cheyenne both lacked any character development. I found Cheyenne to be weak and simple-minded, almost child-like. When she doesn’t return Dude’s call right away but after a few hours, she thinks he’s going to be mad at her. Not only that, she calls one of the women first to find out what his reaction might be. WTF? As for the passion or chemistry that the author tried to create between the two, I felt nothing. I wish that the heroines the author created were different, not sharing so many similar qualities. They’re either unattractive, broke, have no family/friends, or does have family whose main function is to belittle the heroines, or all of the above. Cheyenne is no different. She has the typical mother who belittles her and her job as a 911 operator, always comparing her to her older sister who’s everything she’s not. At one point she tells her family she wants nothing to do with them; however, it takes Dude to tell them off and get them out of Cheyenne’s life for good. Her family is now quickly removed from the story. By the way, does Cheyenne have a father? Not one thing is mentioned about him. Two days after meeting Dude, he takes her to meet his buddies and their wives/girlfriends. Talk about being thrown to the wolves. Rushed. I love to hit the bars/pubs every so often; however, I don’t know about you but I’m tired of these women who always act immature playing drinking games and sloshing drinks all over them ending up drunk while one SEAL member sits in a corner watching over them and laughing at their antics. Give me a break. These girls' night's out have become ridiculous and redundant. It seems all they’re good for is getting drunk and going shopping. Dude declares his love for her. Rushed. Since the story is moving along at a quick pace, there’s nothing more to learn about the men who attached a bomb to Cheyenne. There’s also very little mentioned about the two people who later kidnapped Cheyenne and attached a bomb to her. Rushed. Rushed. I’m guessing bomb making is something that’s discussed a lot around the dinner table. Though I have to wonder as the two who grabbed Cheyenne didn't seem to have any brain-cells to drive a car let alone build a bomb. Can you blame me for the eye-rolls? When they're caught and held in custody, nothing more is mentioned about them. I find it amazing how often the SEALS call Tex for his expertise. Feels like without him they wouldn't be able to rescue their women. In the end, this was a novel that felt rushed from beginning to end. I didn’t feel anything special about either protagonist. Basically I didn't care for this installment. Here’s to the next one being a much better one.

First Impressions
Protecting Cheyenne is probably my favorite of the series so far. While I have found the books in the series to be really solid, this one just hit different in ways that I didn't expect. I LOVED everything about this couple, the romance and what a fabulous plot here. It kept me on edge all the way through and all the beautiful swoons just captured my heart! I am starting to see why this author is well loved for what she delivers. There was a unique layer to this story that melted my heart and I easily read this in one sitting and have no regrets on that one.

First Line
"911, What is your emergency?"

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: "Dude" Faulkner Cooper
The Heroine: Cheyenne

Summary
Dude or also known as Faullkner is a Navy Seal with a expertise in explosives. He is considered damaged by most women because he has a hand with some missing fingers he lost on a mission to protect his brothers and has never met a woman that saw beneath the disfigurement and wonders if he ever will. Cheyenne works as a 911 responder and despite how her family views her profession, she tries to find fulfillment even knowing she will never know those that she seeks to help. While grocery shopping, the store is attacked by terrorists and she is kidnapped and threatened with explosives. Dude comes onto the scene to assist her and saves her life. They have an instant connection that evening and they don't waste time on games or guesses,.....but come fully into a relationship together. But there is an enemy who wants revenge and this time the ending might not be as positive....

What I Loved
There were so many aspects to the story that I truly became endeared to. The first being was the way in which the story really picks up pace. We start off with a very intense scene. There is fabulous chemistry in their initial meeting and we see a pining heroine (which is my favorite kind of pining) The way she looks at him and doesn't see his damaged hand but his heart so quickly had me falling so hard for this heroine. We see her courage and strength but also her honest vulnerability. And she is a hoot while on sedatives. Then we have our hero, who is such a tortured soul. While he has had flings in the past, he longs for what his friends have found but he is completely overwhelmed in meeting Cheyenne....because for the first time he realizes what true acceptance means and he finds it so quickly with her. Their relationship was so vibrant, emotional and real! I couldn't seem to get enough of it. There is some BDSM lite elements within the story, mostly just domination/submission type of play. I really resonated with the heroine on the way she trusts and submits to him so completely. The intimacy between them just blossoms and I appreciated how understanding he was in how her family treated her and only showed true support. If you want a healthy representation of what relationships should be....look no further than this one.

What I Struggled With
Nothing much. It was a very solid story to it with little flaws to it. I think those that struggle with insta love might not be a fan of this writing style for this series as many have them have this quick set up ....but I ADORE it so its working for me.

Overall View
Protecting Cheyenne was a brilliant installment that melted my heart in every way. It showcases the human vulnerabilities in a captivating way that I swooned from beginning to end.

Steam/Spice Explanations

Simmering cup of tea---soft warm touches and light intimacy
Warmin' by the fire- a medium level of sexual tension, a balance of sexual and emotional intimacy, lighter on the details in the sexual moments. (It does have steamy scenes but minimal ones
Steamin' up the room -the sexual content is more explicit in the language and tone, heavier amount of sexual scenes.
Blazing fire to the building-The prime focus is the sex scenes, scorching hot, and could burn one. Less focus on the emotional intimacy to the relationship.

Holy crap, was this book ever gross. I just could not believe the emotional abuse, controlling, and gas-lighting the male lead engaged in.

I feel actual physical anxiety that women might be reading this as a Romance. Any one of these behaviors would be a domestic abuse red flag. Here is just a sampling of the truly abusive dialog in this book...

MALE LEAD: “Text me, call me, leave me a note, whatever it takes, just tell me. You want to go out for lunch? No problem. Text me. You want to go shopping with the girls? Great. Spend all the fucking money you want, but tell me that’s where you’ll be. If you’re stopping to get gas before coming home? Let me know. Because I swear if you’re two minutes late I’m going to worry. I’m not being controlling, I’m not being an asshole. I’m worrying about you."

MALE LEAD INFORMING FEMALE LEAD THEY ARE MOVING IN TOGETHER: “...I’ll never love anyone else. I’ll never let you love anyone else. So you’re moving in. We might as well start the rest of our life now. We’ve missed enough time together. I’m not letting you spend another damn night in anyone’s bed but mine.” Cheyenne felt her insides melt. She pressed her lips together and tried not to cry. “I never thought I’d be here....In a relationship where I’d feel comfortable enough to let someone make these kinds of decision for me.

LEADS DISCUSSING ENTERING A BDSM SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP: This was really going to happen, and it was going to happen his way. Cheyenne tried not to hyperventilate. "Will I get a safe word?” (she asked) “Fuck no,” his response was immediate. "You don’t need a safe word."

Ladies, THIS. IS. ABUSE.
Please don't enter a relationship where a man makes major life decisions FOR you. Please don't enter a relationship where a man requires to know your whereabouts AT ALL TIMES. Please don't enter a relationship where a man says he won't "let you love anyone else". All of these things are abusive. This is NOT love.

I am ashamed at this author. I understand that sone women enjoy reading romance with an Alpha Male. I know there are BDSM relationships that are healthy and communicative. But this book glorifies abuse. It glorifies removing safe-words meant to protect ALL parties in a BDSM relationship. It glorifies controlling behaviors that mimic those characteristic of an abusive relationship.

This story had so much potential, for the first half or more I thought it was going to be my favorite until it took a turn and never recovered.

I loved the way Dude and Cheyenne got together, especially when he picked her up at her car the first night. I loved that Cheyenne put Caroline in her place and that Dude called her for what she was, rude. It is sad that at this point I hate Caroline and can't fathom why Cheyenne would have been so eager to hang with her especially since Caroline owed her one hell of an apology that never happened.

But then we have one of those asinine girls night out and the whole thing went to shit and never completely recovered for me. It would have been okay had it not gone to such huge extremes. Then we have the drugging of Cheyenne the second time, not funny at all...I was hoping one of them would just knock her ass out to shut her up. I mean seriously in that situation, just too much and too stupid for me.

I enjoyed getting to see Dude take care of Cheyenne's family and how the rest ended but there was just too much that didn't work for me and I ended up annoyed after a while.

I will never get the whole girls/guys night out thing in this one, since it was put in this book a lot. I find that ridiculous in real life, so I can't imagine being with a SEAL who could be called away at any time, for who knows how long, and might not even come back but let's leave him for a girls night out once a week...ummm no. I mean they can do that when the guys are on a mission, I don't know but it was put out there so much in this one that it irritated me and it doesn't fit with the possessiveness of this bunch either.

One other thing that irritated me was the references to the BDSM lifestyle, it is not a "game" as Dude called it and some of the things mentioned were pretty insulting to people who live the lifestyle. I find things like that in books to be a huge turn off and annoying, fine he was just bossy and kinky but don't look down on/judge people's lifestyles and put comments in there that show you clearly don't understand the lifestyle at the same time.

To sum it up, the story was excellent up until a point but the best part was Dude and Cheyenne's relationship. The action at the end and the involvement of the others did nothing for me in this one.

So I thought "Dude's" book was going to be a little different. Earlier in the series, I got the impression that his missing fingers had made him less of a manwhore. Now I am not sure I totally qualify him as a manwhore, but his past and his "preferences" surprised me. Not in a good way. He had zero insecurities and was a bit too controlling for me.

Also, I am sorry but the name "Dude" is too much for me to take. I HATE it!

Cheyenne was such a Mary Sue she drove me nuts! Too sweet, too giving, too much a martyr. She was too nice to hate, but she still annoyed me at times. "okay Faulkner" was said about a thousand times. The one time she disobeyed, she was terrified he would yell at her! Grow a pair girlfriend!!!

Dude was good to Cheyenne. At least he was not a jerk like some of the heroes in the proceeding books. But it was just not a great story for me and I was really hoping Faulkner's book was going to be great.

5 Dude, I want to have your babies stars!

description

There is nothing I love more than a slightly damaged, military alpha hottie and once again, Susan Stoker has given me exactly that along with some deliciously over the top drama all wrapped up in a tantalisingly hot and sexy bow!

Like, everyone else I have been hanging for Dude's story and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait. Stoker stepped up her game in this book and brought a lot more passion and heat to the story as well as her usual healthy dose of crazy drama and I relished in every single moment of it.

Being the bomb specialist of the group it comes as no real surprise when he is asked to assist in possible bomb threat during an armed hold up in a local supermarket. Accustomed to the danger and dramatics of his job Dude is unfazed when he enters the store and finds one of the gunmen has strapped a bomb to a customers body. However, he is not prepared for the intense connection he immediately feels for the woman. Is this how it felt when his team mates met their matches? He isn't sure but one thing he is sure of it that he is going to find out.

Dude was a total alpha hottie, he was sweet, caring, passionate, protective and possessive and let me tell you, those strong controlling alpha tendencies only added to his incredibly hot abilities between the sheets. That mouth of his, oh my.....

description

Cheyenne was completely lovable and had me in fits of hysterics with inability to filter her thoughts when she was on medication or when she inadvertently says what she is thinking. It provides such a nice contrast to her usual quiet and reserved side.

Dude and Cheyenne together were HOT. The chemistry was electric and the relationship was intense. I liked the fact that whilst Dude was quite dominant he acknowledged the fact the Cheyenne actually held all the power in their relationship just by the mere fact she could tell him no and that he could "boss" her around as much as he wanted but it was up to her to allow it.

I really enjoyed Protecting Cheyenne it was filled with drama, humour, friendship and panty dropping hotness. I actually think Dude may just trumped Abe to be my new favourite SEAL guy.

This series honestly just keeps getting better with each book and I cannot wait to FINALLY read Benny and Jessyka's story next.

Passionate, Loyal, Protector, Lovable, this are some of the things that describe Faulkner "Dude" Cooper. Are you ready to meet this new Alpha SEAL? Christian Grey moved over there is a new Alpha in town.

Faulkner or Dude is the bomb specialist in the team and darn good at it. He had an accident a while back in one of the missions and one of his hand was mangled sometimes it was a turned off for some of the ladies, and it bother him but he never let it showed.

Cheyenne was a hard working woman, she always kept to herself and always tried to work hard to have her mother's approval yet she could never accomplished that. When she is faced with a life and death situation she knew she had no one to count with and she was willing to sacrificed her life.

When Dude and Cheyenne crossed path neither of them knew their lives were changing forever. They needed each other but can they both admit it?

Can Cheyenne and Dude love each other the way they both had wanting for so long?

Holy Mother of Hotness. Protecting Cheyenne is by far the BEST book of the SEAL Series. Dude will be your new alpha boyfriend. And he will leave you hot and bother.

This is a stand alone book, but if you would like to meet the rest of the SEAL team we suggest to read the whole series.

I recommend for you to read this and all the SEAL Series.

I was expecting a lot from this book as I loved all the previous ones. The characters are always full of life, very humble, fun, and easy to love, almost too perfect.
But this book got a bit too boring :( The beginning was very intense, just what we are used to but later in the story, it became slow and felt like it was a bit forced. The relationship between Cheyenne and her family was unreal but could have been developed a lot more and would have brought some very interesting elements. We know very little about Dude family, about his past. Everything is centered around his wound and his need to control Cheyenne in and out of bed. But apart from that, I didn't fell into the story and the characters as I love to do.
I think this will be my last book in this serie, I don't want to spoil the fun I had reading those books so far.

This author has a tendency to have her plainer heroines whine and compare themselves to other prettier women constantly.

It was really annoying. If you hate the way you look so much, cut your hair, buy different clothes, etc. Don't constantly compare yourself to other woman and complain that those women get all of the attention from men.

These books just got worse and worse. The only redeeming value was the plot lines as I do like rescues that require tech and some revenge. But into the 6th one and it's hard to finish. Sorry Benny. Might not see what you have to do to save Jessyka.

Right off the bat, I don't like how whiney Cheyenne is. She comes off very self-serving in her job. She's a 911 operator and I agree that truly deserves a lot more respect. But the way she goes about it, it's almost as if she expects personal recognition for what she does and is bitter that she doesn't get praise for it. I can sympathize for feeling under appreciated by your family as if your job isn't good enough. What I don't understand is how you expect to be PERSONALLY sought out and thanked for your help and what you do. There are tons of other people who do the same thing and are fine knowing they help people when they have no one else to turn to without expecting anything back in return. That is their job, it's part of the job that you help how you can and hope for the best, you don't get attached because then you keep wondering all these questions which takes your focus off the next person that needs your help. It's almost the same as a doctor. It's not for everyone, you need a tough shell, and if you can't deal, time for a new job. In no way am I trying to bring her down but she's making work personal and it's making her seem selfish when she lets it get to her that only one person has ever tracked her down to thank her or she gets irritated when her mom tells her "I don't know why you get so worked up over people you don't know." As harsh as that sounds and she definitely could have worded it a different way...her mom's right. She's not handling it the way she's supposed to. She knew going in it's tough and she can't expect everyone to go out of their way for her when that's what she signed up for. Sorry, but it's true.

The ongoing trope, an annoying heroine with absolutely no self-esteem, no friends, no family or this one no family that she reaches out to because of her issues. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's your responsibility to put yourself out there. You can't expect everyone else to do the work in friendship and family. If you don't reach out to someone, they're gonna assume you want to be alone and leave you alone. Simple as that. Stop feeling sorry for yourself and do something about why you have no one you can depend on. Being alone is a choice not a result of no one else caring enough for you. Ugh, I'm sick of all these girls that it takes getting a man to give them all the things they could easily have without him. Girl, get a life!!!

The best thing about this book is that Cheyenne is the only to call another girl out on her sh*t, specifically Caroline. These girls don't seem to understand the meaning of respecting boundaries and people in general. It was the only verbal smackdown so far in the series and although I applauded Cheyenne for defending herself, I was disappointed that Faulkner chose to leave and didn't reprimand Caroline himself giving the impression for future reference that she had no right to try to judge another girl he brought around. He did say he was pissed to Cheyenne when they left but also liked that it brought out her feelings for him. I still think she should have been called out though.

I think the writer went too far in making her mom and sister villainous characters. It was too much, I get that families aren't perfect but I don't find it believable at all that her own mom and sister would tell her they felt sorry for the gunmen killed because they had families unless they hated her, in which case they wouldn't make time for her and would avoid her at all costs if they truly resented her for some reason. It just seems too fake and more of a plot device for us to feel even more sorry for her. Sorry, I don't buy it. Then after this terrible day she's had, she finally shows some realistic behavior in not wanting to talk about it but rather just time on her own to think. When she finally does decide to pick up the phone, her first person in mind to call is...Caroline. CAROLINE???!!! The girl who implicated you as a slut and made you feel uncomfortable and unwelcome in her home? THAT'S who you call for advice? Because you're such great friends, right? The other two new villains in the story were laughable and I just couldn't take it seriously. It was just bad and over the top that these two people would also be two more crazies in their family and randomly open up to a stranger and decide to take revenge together. All I could do was sigh and shake my head in disbelief.

As for the romance, I didn't care for it. Everything went by fast, way too fast. He took her to meet his friends after knowing her a day. Her mentality is that of a teenager the way she obeys and follows him around like a lost puppy. His need for control is for no reason and creepy. He has to have things a certain way and no one of that nature is naturally like that, there is always a reason for it. Everything about this couple is so wrong and awkward to read. There was nothing but him dominating her through sex and dirty talk before, during, and after he claimed her as his girl. Sex is their strongest connection and in no way should that be mistaken as love. I respect their way of life but don't call it what it clearly isn't. Lust is not Love. They're completely different. Another pass and wasted effort on this one.

The template writing continues with Protecting Cheyenne. The more books in this series, the sillier and more unrealistic it gets. The editing and grammatical errors increase as the substance decrease.

As per typical, Cheyenne Cotton is a lonely, friendless outcast 911 operator suffering from low self esteem when she meets Faulkner (what an awful first name) “Dude” Cooper. After Cheyenne’s brush with danger, which is a requirement to be noticed/insta-loved by a SEAL team member and to become one of the “Stepford” wives/girlfriends, Cheyenne is welcomed into the clique with Caroline, Alabama, Fiona and Summer. The names change but the story remains the same with a slight change in venue or circumstance.

Stoker has updated the book covers for the series but the same staleness remains with each tale. Nothing new, different or remotely surprising which is disappointing because this series could have been so much more. I realize I am at odds with the vast majority of readers who rate this series as a 4-star read.

Protecting Cheyenne is in a tie for worst in series with Protecting Alabama. Fortunately or unfortunately, I have one more book left in this series, Protecting Jessyka, to go as I am calling it quits after book six
—maybe. I might have to read Protecting Melody just to end my curiosity about Tex. Obviously I have a strong dislike of submission in women and women who supposedly have great strength being reduced to mindless sex toys to men who pride themselves on their sexual prowess, thus this series has been a nightmare for my inner feminist.

Um, this is very much a hit and miss for me. I liked parts of it... I liked Cheyenne to begin with and how her story started, but she had no real depth. Same with Dude. I felt I didn't really 'know' either of them as characters.

What I really didn't like was Caroline... again. I keep trying to refer back to her story and remember what I did like about her... but all I keep thinking about is her patronising and judgemental attitude towards each new woman who is introduced. At least Cheyenne didn't let her get away with it... but Caroline's smugness? Nahhh, doesn't sit well with me.

And the whole 'control' thing? Silly. It was really not needed...

Oh... and Dude using his best Alpha voice? LOL... I just envisaged a cartoon character... same with the male baddie 'winking viciously' at her... I am not sure exactly how that works. And Summer and Alabama mouthing off in the loo's? Summer is 36? Alabama in her 30's, I think... how juvenile did they sound? And surely they would've had more nounce than to say the inappropriate things that they did... and high-fiving? OK...

Also, it is almost as if the SEAL team are profiling women... they all fall within very similar parameters. No family or very definitely estranged/abandoned. Low self-esteem, poor self image... kinda scary when you think about it. I just hope that Tex didn't orchestrate the whole thing... 😉😉😉

My eye balls hurt for how much they rolled while reading this last story (at least for me) of a series that captivated me up to the 3rd book of the Seal of Protection series. Again as in "Protecting Summer" I didn't like Cheyenne, these heroines have nothing to offer, no beauty, no great personality,no fun to be with no, nothing at all just a pathetic looser(Summer), or a slob with low self-esteem (Cheyenne) Sorry but when I started hating a character I had previously loved (Caroline)I know I've had enough of this series. Bummer!

This was just .....bad. The author only refers to females in this book as women, or our women or their women, or his woman, you get the point. She attempted to write an alpha male but ended up with a controlling overprotective H. And then she would randomly throw in out of place “big” words, I guess to make her seem like a better words smith.

“No one f&&@s with this team. And no one f&$@s with our women and gets away with it,”

You can’t write this, and expect people to take you seriously.

Wtf did I just read. This book is filled with a bunch of controlling assholes who only refer to their girlfriends as “their women” and control every aspect of their lives from supervising them when they are out to telling the girls when they don’t text where they are that they “don’t yell because they are mad but because they worry” if that’s not some controlling shit idk what is. I am at a loss for words rn on how bad this book was. Omg.

I wanted to like it, but the hero was into dominance which is an automatic turn-off for me. Then she had them into back-door sex by the end of the book. Ugh. None of the other books even hinted at this, so I was very disappointed she went there. Had to delete the book, and am now scared to buy any of her others. Just when I was cautiously optimistic that i had found a new author.

Could not finish this book.

‘You’re a hero, no you are a hero’
‘You’re perfect, no you are perfect i’m just ordinary’. 🤮🤮
I hate how a womans low self esteem is used to make the hero look better.

If this was only said once, it would be ok. But after a couple of times i just could not read on.

A lot

If swearing and sex in this book. Dominating male main character. Disappointing. What could have been a enjoyable story was ruined by the rough language throughout.

Juvenile

Really, it's a childish mess. I think the idea was good, but Stoker should pass these ideas on to real writers.

Didn't like how bossy and all assuming he is. He demands and she just does. This book seemed off to me. "DUDE" seemed more selfish and more for his own needs... that's not your typical Susan Stoker writing style.
