In reviewing the published version of In 27 Days, I called it paint-by-the-numbers, entertaining, expressed frustration at why Hadley would bend over backwards at great personal risk for someone who threw so much grief back at her, and commented I needed a flowchart to keep tabs of that massive Italian family. I gave it 4-stars.
Face Your Fears was a WattPad published sequel to the original WattPad published In 27 Days, and some changes made for publication, mainly the collapsing of April, May and June into Rosie doesn't exist here. It's fan fiction, and like most fan fiction needs a thorough edit, a better spellcheck, and was haphazard in terms of plot focus. I think it was certainly well intentioned, does quite a bit to answer some of the concerns I had from In 27 Days (Why did Hadley do what she did?) while still burying me in endless extended family members, red herrings and dropped plotlines (the gender reveal was promised, dropped, and explained away later on.) For every great line or touching plot point (spoiler free, but I liked the picks made towards the end) there was awkward dialogue and behavior, such as awkward references to Archer's "sore ass" whenever he drives more than twenty minutes and unlikely rudeness from emergency response professionals.
I appreciate what she was going for here, and if it were released as a re-edited published novel like In 27 Days, it would easily gain a star.
