This very enjoyable story takes unusual directions from the start. Our heroine is a young woman of respectable background who has had her life ruined by a wealthy man. She has been banished to a convent. Meanwhile our hero is a man who went to America as a trader but took the losing side in the Civil War and has returned, with only a ship, to take up a family title. He learns that he will relinquish the lands if he does not marry and produce an heir by a certain date, which is only a few months ...more

While I only read historical romances every once in a while, I have a feeling that I will want to read Slightly Noble by Lilly Gayle over and over again.

Captain Jack has just been given the title of Viscount Ardmore due to the death of his father. However, he has to marry and produce an heir before his thirty-fifth birthday, in five months, if he wants to inherit his mother’s ancestral home and honor her dying wish. When Captain Jack comes across an unwed pregnant Abigail Halsey, who is on her w

Slightly Noble by Lilly Gayle This book won the Historical Novel category of the International Digital Awards and I was asked to read and review it. I admit I picked this book because the idea of a Confederate privateer returning to England to reclaim his inheritance (a viscountcy) but needing not only a wife but an heir to claim the one part of the inheritance that was important above all else intrigued me. I enjoyed this book. Captain Jack was in turns tender and temperamental. Abby, dishonored by a member of the ton and ...more

Although not usually a fan of historical novels, this one is written by Lilly Gayle, one of my most favourite authors, so I had no choice but to read it, and am I sooo glad I did! Plus - the hero is a sea-captain! Arrrrr, matey :) How could I resist?!

We're taken on an incredibly emotional journey with Abby and Jack which leaves you wondering just how on earth they're going to find their way over the obstacles in their way. Both characters have had to endure difficult situations in the past whic

Abigail is a strong and talented woman, but she made a mistake, a serious one, and her reputation could be destroyed forever. Captain Jack, now Viscount Ardmore, and new to the title, due to the death of his father, only wants his home back, and the ability to give his mother her last wish. When their lives collide, is it the beginning of a reprieve for both of them, or are they going to be dragged into the mistakes of their parents? Ms. Gayle has given me the historical I’ve been waiting for. Y ...more

I received this book from the author on red to review basis.

The story in the beginning was kind of disturbing for me but then as the story progressed, I liked how Jack and Abigail start to fall in love with each other and come together as a family. The characters were good, the controversy and the matters with Jack's family were a lot confusing though because I had to read it a number of times before I got who was who and which was his father, what that meant etc. Anyway, the plot and the twists

Lilly Gayle's book Slightly Noble is a classic type of historical romance. There is a reluctant hero, a damsel in distress and suspense.
I found Slightly Noble to be well written, the characters are very well fleshed out and how they develop their relationship is beautifully done. I very much enjoyed Abby and Jack's humor. Tho they are mistrustful of each other for a time, they still manage to laugh. I plan to back up and read her first book in this series as soon as I can.

This was a fantastic book! The characters were intriguing and very well developed. I loved Captain Jack. He was so tortured. But still a gentlemen. Abby fell for a slithery nobleman, believing he would marry her, she is naive. She finds help and sanctuary in a convent, but what will she do now?
The story is well written, well developed plot and excellent characters make it a book I did not want to put down.
I highly recommend this one and all be looking for more from this author!

This book is brilliant and well worth taking the time to lose yourself in this book. The story line is gripping and you will be hooked after the first few pages. I generally do not read romance novels but I found it easy to get into this story line and I found it hard to put the book down. I couldn’t wait to free up time to read some of this book and find out how things worked out for the characters.

Slightly Noble is a really interesting romance where a young woman is pregnant out of wedlock and sent to a convent to deliver her child and place it up for adoption, however circumstances always change and things don't go as planned as she finds herself in a position to keep her baby and get married. A great book, a nice view of how things once were and a fun story all around

I read about half of this book. I like the heroine, and I like the idea of this book - but it never came together for me. It just couldn't keep my interest. Have to pass.

I absolutely LOVED the characters in this book. Jack and Abby were two extremely complex and interesting lead characters, mainly due to their difficulty of trusting others because of their respective pasts. Abby thought she had fallen in love with a respected member of society, but it turns out he was engaged, and after repeatedly forcing himself on her Abby ends up pregnant and alone. Jack on the other hand was sent to America as a young boy with his mother because his father assumed Jack wasn’ ...more

Really good book

This book held my attention and kept me engaged from start to finish. I noticed that there were a few years between the first and second book of this series. That being the case I really hope for a third. Maybe Quinton Stanley's story ?
