Almost Famous meets Grumpy Old Men, Under the Tuscan Sun.

When rock’s former biggest rebel loses everything, he’s forced to call in favors from all the rock star royalty whom he’d burned his entire career.

With a trashed comeback tour, creditors on his ass, no record deal, a health issue he doesn't even know how to spell, and nothing but a few bucks from the s

I picked up this novel hoping it was going to be good.....and BOY was it ever! As a "Baby Boomer" who went to hundreds of Rock Concerts in the 80's I just knew that the author had lived all of this book, well researched and with just enough "dirt" on rockers you may think you know, haha. I was visualizing familiar faces with big hair as the cast came upon the story train and loved every one. Mike Mays is one of those guys you love to hate....or hate to love, promises, disappoints, apologizes, gr ...more

(view spoiler) is the wife of the guy I consider the most bad-ass (and most underrated) Rock guitarist of the planet - Dave Meniketti. She also is the manager of Dave's band Y&T (which started as Yesterday and Today in the mid-'70s), of which also falls in the underrated category. Y&T never quite broke through in the '80s even though they regularly were an opening act on area tours for the likes of Aerosmith & Motley Crue... and they usually blew the headliners off ...more

I received a free mobi copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mike Mays is a washed-up / washed-out aged rockstar rebel. He has spent his life burning everyone: friend and foe alike. He collapses at a come-back gig and is diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). First, he lands on his estranged daughter's doorstep, and has a profound effect on his 15-year-old grandson. When his daughter kicks him out, he ends up in Italy at Groove House. None of the aged musicians

Anyone who even half-heartedly follows the books I review could have predicted I’d jump all over this book as soon as I saw it. I’m a sucker for novels that somehow tie into the music business. The characters in Groove House, especially the protagonist, Mike Mays, are satires and reflect the worst of what you might imagine from an aging rock star who once was and now only has been.

There are two main story threads woven together to form Mike’s story. The first is reconnecting with his estranged

Loved this book,This is a great rock and roll book with the best cast of Characters that I have read in a long time.If you like a great story I would highly recommend it.Jill knows the music business and even though it is fiction I believe a little truth within.Hope this is a start of a lot more stories.

Not good. Too long and the characters are one dimensional. I only got about halfway through before giving up. Being involved with the 80’s rock scene gave me a unique perspective when reading this but mainly I just couldn’t get through it. Sure there was a lot of insider knowledge on display which would probably be interesting to the average reader but the story just didn’t flow and it was too long for the story, too much back and forth between uninteresting and contrived characters and the name ...more

This rock novel’s “big hair” attitude sings loud in a down and dirty 80s vocal. Everything about this frisky novel riffs true. In case you didn’t live it, you can simply read and revel with the cast of hell raising elders. As one character puts it “some of us were even around in the 70s.” She says it like it means something and it does. These faded stars were ever only serious about one thing: their music. Jill Meniketti couples big arena sensibility with backstage savvy to kick this crazy tale ...more
