This story is sort of unusual as it begins like an adult crime fiction and takes an unseen twist and becomes a YA. The author peppers Sth. African history and people throughout as well as instances of brain surgery. The story does move along well enough. I didn't like the two cops discussing their motives and openly siding with some of the characters. Don't judge this book by its cover, which could be mistaken for a gardening book or dendrology (plants and trees) manual. I will, however read the ...more

Barry started this book more than 15 years ago, as a way to relax after completing his Masters' degree. In his youth, he published many short stories under a pseudonym.
Barry lives quietly, with his wife Gail, on a farm in central Alberta.
