Could maybe be considered a level 1 reading book. For the story, I absolutely love it. Beautiful illustrations with a dog and a boy visiting their favorite pond at dusk. Simple and country-esque, it reminds me of simpler times. Even my 5 yr old enjoyed it.

I read a stack of these leveled readers from Appleton-Smith. Most, including this, have text that seems a bit awkward to me, because I'm a fluent reader. But the art in this one is absolutely lovely and I hope that I can find more by Bumas.

The other book from this batch that I do recommend is Sonoran Desert Seasons.

My almost five-year-old read this to me today and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a simple yet sweet story about a boy and his dog on a beautiful summer evening. It's a charming easy reader that contains a real story with easy words and perfect illustrations. Part of the "Books to Remember" series.
