As a contributor to High Country News, I am certainly biased to the publication's work... regardless, this collection is an epic compendium of 3 decades of reporting on wilderness in the American West, digging through what "wilderness" is and how people and communities have come together to protect undeveloped landscapes for personal, moral and environmental reasons, and why the various threats, from energy development to motorized vehicles, to wilderness matter to both the environment and human ...more

This is an excellent compilation of articles, essays and editorials from the top magazine about the western United States, High Country News, specifically dealing with wilderness.

Major national environmental groups as well as local organizations all get their due, as well as insight onto their different angles in wilderness legislation attempts, lobbying, etc.
