Take the Fall #2

When We Fall

Rate this book
In the captivating new novel in Marquita Valentine’s Boys of the South spinoff series—perfect for readers of Abbi Glines and Katy Evans—a small-town sweetheart takes a chance on the bad boy who’s always been her hottest fantasy.

The last time Piper Ross saw her best friend’s sexy older brother, Jase Simmons, he was being taken away in handcuffs. Seven years later, two things haven’t changed: Piper is still head-over-heels in love with him . . . and Forrestville’s chief of police—Piper’s dad—still hates his guts. So when Piper sees a chance to get close to Jase, she makes her move—literally. As his new roommate, and as the office manager of his tattoo shop, Piper won’t be satisfied until Jase knows that she wants to be his.

The quintessential good girl, Piper is pure temptation for Jase. The only reason he’s always kept his distance is because she’s the last person he’d ever want to hurt. But once he realizes that Piper is ready to take the leap, everything just makes sense. Suddenly Jase feels like a new man—until nasty rumors start swirling and Piper’s heartless father stirs up even more trouble. Now Jase must convince Piper that she wasn’t wrong about him . . . because falling in love never felt so right.

Charmingly sweet and sexy, a delight to read.

Piper Ross is fine with being a southern belle but totally done with being a wallflower. She’s been in love with her best friend’s brother since she met him at age fourteen and now that he’s back from a seven year stint in prison she’s willing to overcome her shyness to make sure he knows she wants to be his. Including being bold enough to defy her parents, move into his house and work in at this tattoo shop.
“A man who has the face of an angel and kisses like the devil is my man, and not just any man. Jase. The guy I’ve loved since I was fourteen.”

It’s negligible whether her upper crust parents approve of him or not. They don’t care what Piper wants they just want a meek daughter to take her “rightful” place in society as a trophy wife. The fact that he’s an ex-con bad boy to everyone else including himself is also unimportant. Unlike her critical mother, overbearing father, and mocking peers, Jase Simmons is the only person who’s always seen the real beauty in her quiet dignity and caring heart. He would never change anything about her and vice versa.
“I always hated that last scene in Grease, when Sandy and Danny stop being themselves to be like what they thought the other wanted. If they loved each other, then why couldn’t they accept each other as is?”

To Jase, Piper has always been the unattainable dream. But once he realizes that her good girl persona is the yin to his bad boy yang he’ll do everything to keep her and protect her from whatever harm my befall her, including the malicious intentions of a high society man in sheep’s clothing or Piper’s parents’ misguided actions.
“This is my sweetness and lith. My happiness and peace. Mine.”

Marquita Valentine delivers a story full of sweet sexiness. This is a true bad boy-good girl novel where Jase ticks off all the qualifiers for badass: a brooding, tatted, motorcycle driving ex-convict. Whereas Piper has all the attributes of the quintessential goody-goody: a proper, bashful virgin that’s always done what’s expected of her. On the outside they are complete opposites, but behind those facades there exist two people who make each other shine. They make one another truly happy.
“There’s something about her, something sweet and kind that makes me feel manly. Like a real type of manly.”

I met both Jase and Piper in the first book in this series and even though I typically prefer self-assured heroines I really liked Piper. It was wonderful to see the timid Piper find her backbone after so many years of living under her parents’ thumb and break out on her own, determined to be independent and in doing so also gathering the courage to fight for what she’s always wanted, a true chance at being with Jase.
“Give him the fantasy. Give him what he’s never had from a woman— kindness, sweetness , and love.”

As for Jase, it’s hard for me not to love a bad boy who falls so deeply and truly. Those hard and rough alpha male edges tend to soften and open up a delicious gooey center. I really liked how their relationship developed. Neither dwelled too much on whether or not they were worthy of each other because they soon realized there were perfect together. And although it had some minor bumps there was no overly exaggerated drama, these two people who thought being together would always be a dream find they can make their fantasy a reality.

On a last note, I really liked Jase’s younger sister and Piper’s best friend Rowan. She’s the heroine in the first book “Take the Fall” and is a great sister and wonderful, supportive best friend who gave out great advise and supplemented the story nicely.

When We Fall is the second book in the Take the Fall series by Marquita Valentine. It is a standalone, full-length, contemporary romance filled with sugary sweet moments, sexy times and a splash of drama. Told from both points of view, with a happy ending.

4 Sweet Love Stars

"Sweetie, when it comes to you, Jase is halfway there. I don’t think it would take much for him to fall the rest of the way. But that’s easy . . . when we fall . . . we don’t know how hard until we hit the ground.”

Piper (love that name) Ross has always played the role of dutiful daughter and all around goody two-shoes because that’s what’s been expected of her. Raised in a wealthy but emotionally cold home, Piper’s tried to live up to the expectations of her parents by being as malleable and meek as she could manage.

Her first act of rebellion, at age fourteen mind you, is to become friends with Rowen Simmons, the main character from the first book and girl from the wrong side of the tracks. She's convinced her mother it was an act of public service for the community, which I think is a fairly clever excuse for a 14 year old girl to come up with. But hey, when a girl’s raised with the belief that she should “get her disgusting condition under control” and her mother’s referring to asthma instead of some highly contagious STD, she probably made the right choice in being sneaky.

Her second was to move out of her childhood home at the age of 23, which lead to her parents disowning her. Did I mention her parents are assholes?

At fourteen she also meets Jase, Rowen’s hot as all get out older brother, and immediately proceeds to fall in love. Not because he was the best looking manboy she’d ever laid eyes on. Heck no! It was his heart, you jaded people! Before Piper and Jase's friendship could progress any further tragedy takes Jase away for seven years, but Piper never stops thinking “what if” and waiting for him to come home.

“Give him the fantasy. Give him what he’s never had from a woman— kindness, sweetness , and love.”
I wrinkle my nose. “You make me sound like a greeting card.”
“Everyone loves greeting cards.”
I wrinkle my nose. “And everyone throws them away after reading them, too.”

This series continues to surprise me. It's “palette cleansing” reading at its finest because it’s not too long, too deep or too angsty. However the character development and the story itself is just enough to make you invested in the outcome. In the case of When We Fall I loved the fact it didn’t follow the exact path I thought it would. Piper is a good girl ready to hand in her V card and Jase doesn’t even remember what his card looked like. When they finally get together the result is both sweet and surprisingly hot.

This could’ve easily fallen into the predictable category of Jase whining the entire story about how he wasn’t good enough for her and him pushing her away for her own good. I. Am. Over. That trope. Instead the story focusses on Piper and Jase working it out. It’s still not going to win any awards for creativity, but I enjoyed it.

When We Fall is the second book in Marquita Valentine’s Take the Fall series but can definitely be read as a standalone.

This is the second book in this series and I think it could be read as a standalone although, the history of Jase and Piper is somewhat touched on in Take the Fall as well as the background of the entire gang.

I had really high hopes for this one as the ending of the first book set up this little dance between Jase and Piper. This story is based on the trope of the girl being forever in love with her best friend's older brother. The refreshing part about this story was Jase also saw Piper as the woman of his dreams. Even when she was this young, awkward girl, he saw her.

Very sweet romantic read. I liked it but it might be a little too sweet for my liking. Nonetheless, this was a very okay read.

I really didn't like Jase in Take the Fall but his story intrigued me enough that I wanted to read this book. Jase is really a huge jerk in the first 20% of this book but I ended up loving him by the end of this book. Jase and Piper bring out the best in each other and have a wonderful connection. I'm a big fan of best friends brother type stories and I really enjoyed this one. The steamy scenes were hot and there wasn't an overload of angst. I wish a couple of things would've been a little different but overall, this was a really good sexy and sweet romance. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

I generally try to avoid books were the women are doing all the chasing after the man as it pisses me off. I just think 'God woman bloody get a clue and move on!' This was the case with When We Fall for me. Piper had loved Jace for years and watched him whore himself out to anybody and everybody expect her. It's not a new idea but it can work well. Piper did nothing but whine because Jace kept pushing her away for the first 30% of the book. Then all of a sudden they go from zero to hot and heavy in the space of 5 pages.

Eventually Piper grew some balls and Jace was sweet. They were hot together and everything worked out like a fairytale. But I forgive those few issues, because I did end up enjoying this.

Great second book. Jase was amazing, sweet, hot and just perfect for Piper. I loved how much Piper grew and came into her own. Together they were hot and so perfect. Her parents are just horrible, and I loved how she pulled one over on them. Great seeing Seth and Rowan again. I hope the next book is Hunter and not Emmett.

4 heartwarming and passionate stars. I wanted to know Piper and Jase's story ever since they came into Rowan and Seth's story. The two grew up vastly different but were thrown together due to one common person, Jase's sister Rowan. Jase knew Piper before she was the beautiful woman she currently is and Piper loved Jase even when she was a teenager. The novel did their story justice and it was a good read.

Jase is the screw up that ended up in jail seven years ago. He's hardened by time in jail and now walks the straight and narrow as a part owner of a bustling tattoo shop. He's the bad boy mothers tell their daughters to stay away from. He's charming, sexy, crafty, and downright dangerous for any female he sets his sights on because Jase pretty much takes what he wants. He wants Piper but believes he'll only hurt her and isn't good enough for her so attempts to keep his distance.

Piper's the "good girl" raised in an upper society family with everything she could ever want outside of truly being love and respected for who she is. When she makes the decision to go against her parent's wishes, Piper finds herself in a financial bind of epic proportions. Jase agrees to let her do the books for the tattoo shop and live with him which furthers her resolve to have him. Piper thinks she isn't what Jase would be interested in but takes the leap of faith anyway. Her work is all but cut out for her since he thinks he's not worthy.

With Piper running away to not show up back at their shared apartment, Jase makes the decision that he needs to find her and bring her home. This, for me, is the turning point where Jase realizes he has to have Piper and keep her safe. The two take the steps necessary to be together and find that they are more compatible than either would have thought. Together they overcome their insecurities and struggles to lead to a happy ever after that is much deserved.

Good girl Piper has been raised to do as as she is told. And she knows what is expected of her - go to college, marry a suitable man from the country club set, settle down and basically be a trophy wife. The only problem? Piper has long been in love with her best friend's older brother.

Jase is someone her parents would never approve of, having spent the last seven years in prison. But Piper is finally ready to make her feelings known and do what it takes to make Jase see her as more than his little sister's friend.

There are obstacles in their way, of course, and watching as these two navigated a new relationship while dealing with outside challenges made for an entertaining read.

When We Fall makes good use of two tried and true romance tropes: the girl in love with her best friend's brother, and the good girl/bad boy attraction. In this case, the bad boy also has a good heart (naturally) and a serious soft side when it comes to Piper. Jase was an interesting character and I enjoyed his rough exterior and his gentle, protective side with Piper. What I appreciated most about Piper was that despite being the good girl, she was no shrinking violet. Piper had backbone and was fiercely loyal. She didn't depend on others to rescue her from tough situations but instead used her head and fought to make things right.

When We Fall does not have the most original plot, but it was easy to overlook that with the focus on two characters who, despite outward differences, brought out the very best in one another.

When We Fall is the second title in the Take the Fall series but can be read as a stand-alone.

Note: This title was provided to me in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

"Sweetie, when it comes to you, Jase is halfway there. I don’t think it would take much for him to fall the rest of the way. But that’s easy . . . when we fall . . . we don’t know how hard until we hit the ground.”

Piper Ross was in love, and is still in love with her bestfriend’s brother ever since she was 14. She is a good girl and their story was about a bad boy—we’re not talking about just a ‘bad boy’ here, we’re talking about an ex-convict, just to be clear—and a good girl who fell helplessly in love with each other. After seven years, Piper met Jase again and Jase’s long absence didn’t really change anything—she’s still in love with him and she make her move to be his roommate and applies as an office manager to Jase’s tattoo shop.

---

Their relationship is an example of opposite attracts kind of relationship. Piper is a good girl and a Police Chief’s daughter while Jase is obviously a bad boy and an ex-convict. Jase was keeping his distance because Piper was the last person that he wanted to hurt. But love has its own ways and they fell in love with each other.
Jase was… so ideal, in my own opinion. I love how he cares for his sister and for Piper. I swoon non-stop because of this guy. He’s so sweet.
I also love Piper. I love how she worked so hard for her independence and how she stood for herself. I really hate her parents and I was saddened of the fact that there are parents like Piper’s
----
Jase and Piper’s story was interesting I love the balance between the two in a sense that they were able to fill each other’s imperfections. I love how this book was written and I really enjoy Marquita Valentine’s books. This book was so good. I enjoy reading it.

When We Fall by Marquita Valentine is the second book in the Take the Fall series. It can be read as a standalone, it does have an HEA and no cliffhanger. I enjoyed this one for exactly what it was. It’s a friends to lovers book, with a bit of second chance in there.

The story of these two characters drew me in right away. The biggest thing I can say for it is that it’s exceedingly sweet, as is the chemistry you’ll find within it. It has a great plot, it is well paced and will make you want to read the rest of the series.

Piper Ross has been in love with her best friends brother, Jase, for years. Things have unfolded however, as life does, and Jase ends up in jail for seven years. Upon his release, he opens a tattoo parlor, and Piper goes to work for him. That is as much as I’m going to tell you about it, without giving you spoilers.

Overall, a very sweet four star read for me, or hearts in my case. ;) I would definitely recommend it.

I LOVE THIS STORY! I fell so much in love with the first book, about Rowan & Seth. I was so excited for Jase & Piper's story! And it did not disappoint - it is a 10++ star read of the highest order. Part of that is because all the crazy drama of their relationship happens during Rowan & Seth's story, so their book is drama-free. Not from the outside - they have several things trying to work against their HEA. But inside, w/ each other, they are loving & playful & accepting of the other in their heart, and when they get upset w/ each other & fight, they don't have a SOB (seemingly obligatory breakup), they handle it and work through it together. I LOVE THAT!! And the way they each grow throughout the story - love that, too!

And, bonus, we get a glimpse of Hunter's story, which is next. I was hoping he was getting a story! SO HAPPY!!! : )

4 Stars!

This is the second book in the "Take the Fall" series, but it can be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed this story however, there were a few places that had quite a bit of angst.
I liked the direction the author went after these nerve-wracking-gut-wrenching situations.
The main characters had a wonderful history together, and this is a story of a 'good' girl from the right side of town falling for the bad-boy ex-con (who also happened to be her best friends brother).
The story is of them coming to terms with their feelings and where they fit in amongst they're families, work and society.
I really like this author's voice and writing style.
I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Loved this one!!! I fell in love with Jase and Piper in the first book and desperately needed to know how their story would play out. Ms. Valentine did not disappoint. This had so many feels:-) Just loved it! Could have read it in one sitting. Also, it can be read as a standalone if you haven't read the first in the series.

Piper Ross wants her independence away from her controlling family and she wants her best friend's older brother, Jase. Just released from seven years in prison, has always had his eyes on Piper, but he's busy filling his time with booze, loose women, and work. When Piper reaches out to Jase about moving in with him, he doesn't know how to say no even if he should. Living together and working together opens up their eyes that they need to give each other a shot and when they do, it's like it is meant to be, even if Piper's family is completely against it and willing to do whatever it takes to separate them. As Piper and Jase face everything against them head on, they find that they only need love.

Piper isn't your average NA main character, she wasn't the most popular, the sportiest, or in her eyes, the prettiest, but she was smart, determined, and had the biggest heart. I really enjoyed that about her, that she was so normal. I enjoyed her drive to better herself and better life for others, I could have easily read about just about Piper and her career of helping others. I also liked that she stood up for herself, something we know she didn't do in her past. Jase, the handsome, tattooed ex-con, is our male MC and boy is he a good one. There's no major conflict in these two getting together, they push their worries aside fairly quickly, but Jase is definitely the most attentive. I expected a lot of alpha-male, but didn't get that feel so much. I did, however, get some great smut, something that Marquita Valentine writes so well. While the relationship didn't suck me in, it was fun to read about their successes instead of their failures.

My opinion is not the popular one for this book, unfortunately this one just didn't work for me in the end. When We Fall is a NA novel that has all the cliche requirements and what started as a promising story line fell short for me. While I liked the characters and their romance, I could have done with only one or two major events happening. On top of their slightly unconventional relationship, our MC, Piper, has terrible asthma, the kind of parents you wouldn't wish on anyone, no money, a sort of stalker, oh and did I mention, she's still a virgin and a huge deal is made of it. That's just a lot to take in for one book and one character. Yes, she has an awesome man and great friends, but jeez I would've given up if it was me. On top of that, the role of the parents just doesn't...make any sense. I normally love the story line of the parents who suck and the MC finds her wings or the parents find some sense, but the parental roles in this weren't constant. Dad isn't wealthy, doesn't have a white collar job, but is a pretentious jerk. Mom's got the money, is a total socialite, has a weird one-second moment of having feelings, then back to normal. Who are these parents?! I had a glimmer of hope for the mom, just a glimmer, but I just ended up disappointing. The conflicts all seemed to wrap up too easily, and even the most entertaining one was solved without much drama involving the MCs. I just wish we'd had less cliches, more focus on one or two events and their long term effect on the relationship.

This is the second novel in the Take the Fall series, however it can absolutely be read as a standalone. Marquita Valentine is a great writer and always very descriptive. As a reader, you'll be able to picture every character and scene perfectly. While this one wasn't for me, I suggest you take a look at it for yourself.

When We Fall by Marquita Valentine
Book #2: Take the Fall Series
Source: Netgalley
My Rating: 5/5 stars
My Review:

You would think at some point I would get tired of being an author’s bitch but I’m not there yet with Marquita Valentine. When We Fall is yet another reason I am going to continue to be Valentine’s bitch.

Since Piper Ross decided to defy her disgustingly rich, image-conscious, need-to-rot-in-hell parents, her life has been both far better and far worse. On the far worse side, she no longer has access to their money which means she can’t pay for school and she has to live well below the standard she is used too. On the far better side, Piper is now her own woman, she has some really amazing friends, and the guy she has been in love with since she was a teenager just gave her a job and a place to live.

Jase Simmons has spent the past several months making up for the seven years he spent in prison. That’s a lot of partying, a lot of drinking, and a lot of sex. Trouble is, that life style isn’t what Jase really wants and what he really wants is Piper Ross, a woman he considers himself nowhere near good enough for. Piper is innocent where Jase is tainted, Piper is sweet where Jase is harsh, Piper is pure where Jase is so far from pure. Even knowing all of that, Jase still wants Piper with a passion he never thought possible. Jase also wants a better life than he ever thought possible for himself. With Piper by his side, Jase feels like he has something and someone to work for and he begins to do so the second he becomes well and truly involved with Piper.

As Piper begins to work her way into Jase’s world, her suspicions about him are confirmed. Underneath all the bravado is a good guy with the capacity to love her in a way no other person ever has. Jase’s every action speaks to his goodness and his feelings for Piper even if he can’t admit them out loud just yet. In no time flat, Piper and Jase are completely involved with one another and happy to be so but others aren’t quite so excited about their relationship. Though she has severed virtually every tie with her parents, Piper still has to deal with them from time to time and when they get wind of her relationship, all hell breaks loose. As if things couldn’t get any worse, Piper is attacked after meeting with her parents and when Jase comes to her rescue, his past comes back to haunt him. In order to get to their HEA, Piper and Jase are going to need a whole lot of luck!

The Bottom Line: Jase Simmons is some kind of hot and his actions toward Piper makes him all the hotter. From the moment Jase decides to go all in with Piper, he is there for her 110% and no one had better get in his way. Jase lays claim to Piper in some very primal (yet tender) ways and Piper soaks up every second of her man’s attention. As the plot unfolds, Piper really comes into her own and with Jase’s support finds her own voice and a reserve of strength even she didn’t know she had. As Piper’s confidence grows, she puts everyone in their place and defends her man and her choices at every turn. In this particular instance, I absolutely loved seeing everyone getting exactly what they deserved!!

“When we fall…we don’t know how hard until we hit the ground.”

This was such a fantastic read. When We Fall is the second book in the Take The Fall series, but can totally be read as a stand-alone. Ever since I finished the first book in this series, I have been dying to get my hands on the next one and let me tell you, this one does not disappoint.

From the moment I picked up this book, I was dying to know more. I was intrigued by Piper and Jase. Jase has had a hard life. It’s been an adjustment for him; returning to life after prison. He’s been working hard and trying to turn his life around. He wants to be someone better, someone that Piper could be proud of. See, even though Jase doesn’t show it, he’s been in love with Piper for years. He’s always wanted her; felt a need to protect her. But, he’s always felt like he wasn’t good enough for her. So, when the time comes and Piper is in need of a job and place to live, Jase can’t say no. Is it a bad idea? Probably. Will they both regret it? Maybe. But, he can’t say no….On the outside, it seems like Piper has lived the charmed life: rich family, nice car, fancy clothes. But, a closer look will show that Piper’s life has been anything but perfect. Piper has never lived a life with love or touch. Amazingly, she always sees the good in everyone, especially Jase. She has been in love with Jase for as long as she can remember. And now that she’s older, she’s finally going to do something about it…..

I loved everything about When We Fall. It was a very good friends to lovers romance. The story-line was captivating and held my attention the entire time. The story was well paced. I loved the characters. Jase and Piper were both very easy to connect with. I loved the chemistry between Jase and Piper. It was HOT and completely undeniable. The push and pull between the two of them definitely kept me coming back for more. They say opposites attract and that is the truth here. These two might be complete opposites, but they couldn’t be more perfect for each other if they tired!

When We Fall was a great addition to this series. It had the perfect balance of angst, drama, and romance. I can’t get enough of this series and these characters and am really looking forward to seeing where this author will take us next!

Although When We Fall is the second book in the Take The Fall series it can be read as a stand-alone. All relevant points to the background of the characters is nicely recapped within the narrative ensuring all details are fully understood to any newcomer to the series.

Told in dual narrative, the initial encounters with Jase and Piper make you believe on the surface Piper is the complete opposite of Jase. She has had a serious case of unrequited love on her best friends brother for as long as she can remember. Although Piper is utterly beautiful inside and out, her Police Chief father and overly critical mother have crushed her self-esteem ensuring she doesn't feel worthy of pursuing her affections. Made to feel insecure in her looks and a burden due to her asthma, my heart went out to Piper. Basically she has been emotionally neglected and abused by the people who should endeavour to boost her the most. Encouraged to be trophy wife and ensure her families social standing, she has been controlled and dictated to her whole life. Desperate for independence Piper makes a break by moving in with her best friend Rowan, only to be cut off financially by her parents in an effort to re-assert their hold on her. The narrative shows clearly how easy it is for evil to lurk under the cover of civility and when cloaked by money.

Jase, on the other hand, is a ex-con turned tattoo artist, having been in the wrong place at the wrong time. His time served in prison has changed him; heightening his belief that he is undeserving of love and kindness. He has been guardian to his sister from a teenager, shouldering responsibility far beyond his years.

I love how the narrative shows both characters inner thoughts as well as tackling the actions, reactions and consequences idea. Something I talk about a lot both at home and in school. I also enjoyed the notion that fate/destiny steps in to guide Jase and Piper to where they should be. Everything happens for a reason, it's what we make of the after effects that can bring positivity into our lives. However, the journey is never easy, whereby Piper and Jase's insecurities fuel the problems between them.

While I always adore the romance in any story it was really the character development in When We Fall that stole the show for me. Their partnership is the solid foundation needed for them both to flourish ♥

The second book in the Take the Fall series picks up where the first left off and focuses on Rowan's brother, Jase and her best friend, Piper. I make no secret that I disliked the first book; purely because I hugely disliked Rowan, but despite this, I did like what we saw of Piper and Jase and was tempted enough to see whether When We Fall would fair better.

It did. Marquita Valentine has taken the good-girl/bad-boy trope and brought her reader a sweet, low-angst, passionate and heated romance between a couple who have led very different lives but have harboured feelings for one another for years. Piper and Jase have both been through so much; she has grown-up surrounded by wealth with cruel cold-hearted parents determined that her life's mission is to become a trophy wife, whilst he has served seven years inside. This couple have so much stacked against them, but their strength together makes for an engaging, captivating read.

Maybe, just maybe, Piper wants me for me--not my reputation--nothing but me."

There were moments when I wanted to wallop Jase early on in the book, but he surprised me hugely with his gentle, protective, thoughtful nature. And Piper's strength of determination and honesty is admirable. This book could have so easily fallen into the trap of boy-not-thinking-he's-good-enough-so-breaks-girl's-heart-for-her-own-good, but instead this is a story of two individuals leaning on one another, discovering each other and growing together.

Marquita Valentine has turned this series around for me and I'm looking forward to reading more.

3.5 Stars

I enjoyed this story, but to be honest the best part for me was that Jase had always loved Piper. Even when she was not the vision of beauty, but of awkward teenage girl. He knew her heart was more than the outside world could see. She deserved his love, Piper never strayed in her love, devotion and trust in Jase. Even when she witnessed things she wished she hadn't. Trying to prove to her he wasn't good enough couldn't even keep her away. Loved Piper's strength and conviction in always being honest with her feelings and not playing games. Enjoyed it!

When We Fall was a heartfelt and emotional read, I enjoyed the storyline and the characters were both likable and very relatable. It had an interesting plot, and the drama was just enough to hold your interest until the end.
I loved how honest and open Piper and Jase were with each other, together they were able to get through the obstacles her overbearing ass of a father created for them.

I really enjoyed this book, it left me full of happy feels.

*3.5 – 4 sweet stars*

When we fall is second book in Take the fall series. If you are interested in my review of first book follow the link -> https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... .

This book follows the romance of Rowan’s big brother Jase and her best friend Piper.

After seven years spent in jail Jase is out in the real world, trying to compensate for all the missed time. Women, smoking, booze… it doesn’t matter. But under all this pretense is a sweet guy, looking for somebody to believe in him and love him just the way he is. He didn’t have nice childhood - his father left them and his mother turned to drugs and so he had to take care of him and his baby sister all while surviving in the wrong part of town. But there was always constant, even while he was serving his time in jail, and that was Piper.

Piper is sweet, trusting, rich girl whose family tried to control her by sheltering her. But Piper is sick of her parent’s behavior and moves out, the act that makes her parents disown her, but even that doesn’t affect her decision. She wants to be her own person and she’s not afraid of real world, and although a bit ashamed of not knowing some basic things, she’s willing to learn. She’s been in love with her best friends brother most of her life, waiting for him to finally notice her.

With no place to live or job to pay her bills, she asks Jase for help and he can’t deny her anything no matter how much he wants to stay away from her because he thinks he’s not good enough.

This was sweet, short read.

I liked this book better than the first one. The characters were easier to connect with, and I liked the fact that we could see Piper develop and grow as a person and her own woman. Although she’s shy and afraid to stand up to anybody, she learns how to do it to help her friends and the man she loves. I also liked that it wasn’t classical story where the parents set an ultimatum for heroes and then they have to break up, although they love each other.

Marquita also gave us preview into characters for the next book in series, After we fall, which I’m really looking forward to reading.

4,5 captivated stars!!

Ooh my..this was a fantastic book, it captured me from page one. I knew i'd love this couple from the first book of the series!

The second book continues where book one has finished with Jase and Piper's story.

Let's talk a little bit about the story, Jase has spent seven years in prison which changed him
a lot, he is a bad boy (with a soft heart..for Piper i'd like to add),has a dominant personality
and he is overprotective of Piper the sweet girl whose his sister best friend. He wants her but he doesn't give
in to her because he thinks that he'll corrupt her personality.
Piper after years of oppression from her parents (rich people want their daughter to marry someone they
want, have kids and do charities) she doesn't want what they want and rebels for the first time in her life.
She leave her home but she can't live with her best friend (who live with her boyfriend, she goes to Jase's house..and their attraction to each other flares up.

An applause for this sweet story , i fell in love with both characters Piper is such a sweet, delicate creature with a
hidden strong personality and Jase is a man many women would want in their lives he has spent seven years in prison
however he stays good at heart, he doesn't admit that but it's the truth (he protects her, he teaches her to cook, he provides her his place to stay..which type of bad person does these things???). They collide so well together 'the petite' with 'the fierce' that's a great mixture.
Μy congrats to the author for the enjoyable story which i definitely recommend to everyone!!
I'm looking forward to read the third book of the series!!!

DEBBIE'S REVIEW

This is the second book in this series but could be read as a stand-alone. This is Piper and Jase’s story. I will start off by saying I could not wait to read this one. I had a feeling their story was going to be hot and steamy but Piper has such a unique personality I knew there was sure to be some LOL moments. The author did not disappoint with this one.

Piper is a person I wish I had for as a friend in my life. She will go out of her way to help you and you cannot but love her honesty. She came from a sheltered life and that is what makes her so unique. What she feels is what she says. Not far into the story my stomach starting aching for Piper. She really cared for Jase and I get that he thought he was not good enough for her but sometimes the things he did really hurt her.

“Jase Simmons is the epitome of bad. No good. An ex-con. All tattooed and motorcycle driving.”

Jase is panty dropping hot. His dirty little mouth had me blushing several times. Not only is he clearly a dominate man he has a good heart. You just knew from the beginning that they belonged together.

“I’m going to do you so good tonight, Piper,” he promises. “So fucking good.”

The chemistry between these two was Off The Charts HOT HOT HOT!!!!!!! Piper was so innocent and was not afraid to let that be know but she was willing to do whatever she had to do to get her man. She had no problems letting Jase know exactly how she felt and didn’t take his crap. The banter between these two was not only fantastic it felt real.

“ My stomach roils, but I won’t back down from telling him what I thing. I backed down my entire life and it got me absolutely nowhere.”

All the secondary characters played a nice part of making this book interesting and flow beautifully. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author.

ARC graciously provided by Netgalley in exchange for a honest review.

This is the second installment in the amazing Take the Fall series. This book took this series to a whole other level with this amazingly sweet story of Piper and Jace.

Jace has complications and a lot of baggage after being released from a seven year stint in prison. Loving his sister's best friend and all around angel really doesn't help. But when Piper needs a job and a place to stay he finds that he can't say no to the woman who he has always cared for. After she moves in he finds it even harder to keep his hands off her even though it was her father that put him away.

Piper has loved Jace since she was 14. Now that her parents have disowned her she looks to Jace for help. It certainly helps that living with him is how he helps her. Prim and proper Piper is definitely not what Jace usually goes for but what she doesn't know is that its everything that turns him on. Soon their relationship grows deeper and so does her parents wish for them to be apart.

I loved the passion between these two. Jace was an alpha who once he fell in love their was nobody and nothing that was going to keep him from his girl.
Their passion and chemistry started my kindle on fire.

This book was scorching in more ways than one and I feel blessed that I was able to read this. This author has a way with words that will keep you captivated until the last word and even then I wasn't ready for it to end.
I wait on pins and needles for the next book in this already amazing series!

I found this to be the classic good girl falls in love for the bad boy. Come one who doesn’t love the types of stories they are too good to pass up.

Piper Ross is the epitome of a southern girl should be. She does what her parents tell her to do and try to walk a straight lines most of the time. She started to rebel a young age then at 14 she meets Jase which is Rowen’s older brother. It’s instalove from their well for her. She basically hold a torch for Jase for seven years. When the opportunity strikes to place herself in Jase’s Life daily she jumps at the chance. Jase is a bad boy through and through he wants what he wants and nothing stands in the way of it. He wants Piper obviously but, because of his record he decides to hang back. Piper did not let him take the easy road out oh no. I liked that this story was different from the rest. No, the author took the story in another direction. They make it work for them not for the people around them. These to deserved the HEA they got. I was so happy to read this it’s a feel good story all around again the author did a wonderful job writing it.
