It looks at the possible methods of studying children which have been used to gather data on child development. The stages of social and moral development are studied in detail and several theories can be applied to the real world. Influences on children such as media and parents are examined, along with the effects of separation, deprivation and childcare. Finally, the book looks in detail at atypical child development, focusing on such areas as physical handicap, illness, psychological disorders, and behavioural problems.
