This is a straightforward, low angst story of two men falling in love. Although this is #2 in the Island Tales world, it is a standalone story.

Bestselling author David Hannon hasn't been able to write a word since finding his lover in bed with another man. Five months after kicking Clark out, he has shut himself away in his NYC apartment. His agent arranges for him to spend a month on a quiet island off England so he can get his act together. This is where he meets Taylor Monroe, his neighbor and the owner of a sports rental business on the beach. Taylor is 20 years younger than David, but has a thing for older men and it is quickly clear that both men are attracted.

Being a gay man on a small island, Taylor hasn't had a long term relationship and knowing David is only around for a month the men come to an agreement to have a no strings attached relationship for the duration. As the two spend time together, it is apparent that they are well-suited for each other and as David's time on the island nears an end, they both realize that maybe it has become more than "just sex". Enter Clark, who manages to track down David in an attempt to get him back.

One thing I love about K.C. Wells is her ability to infuse such chemistry into the relationships. Also, though the men fall into bed right away, there is a nice slow build to the relationship. While the story is low angst and void of the serious issues addressed in some of the author's other books, there are some bumps in the road that Taylor and David must deal with. Overall, if you want a nice love story with a beautiful setting, this is a perfect read.

David Hannon was an English teacher in New York, increasingly frustrated and disenchanted with his lot...teachers that can't stand teaching and kids that definitely don't want to learn. He makes a decision to change his way of life, and hey presto, James Blanchette, writer of detective fiction is born!!

Now

After being cheated upon in their bed by Clark, his lover of two years, David throws him out and discovers that their friends knew all about Clark's cheating ways and chose not to tell him. What does he do, yes, he takes to the bottle which of course means that nothing new is being written...in fact, it would appear that David's muse has been pickled in the alcohol he's been drinking!! His agent Juliet, although understanding, has had enough of him living like a pig , and decides to take matters into her own hands. She books him into a place called The Lighthouse far, far away from all the temptations NY has to offer in an attempt to get his muse to return and leave the booze alone. The Lighthouse is well, a mini lighthouse (duh!), and is situated on that 'rock off the coast of England' called the Isle of Wight. He's going to be there for the month of September and he will deal with it, she's thought of everything, wonderful woman that she is.

David makes the tiring trip to the IOW, eventually meeting Vanessa, the owner of the property, who takes him on a little trip of the island and back to the house, leaving him to find his way around and collapse into bed after his journey. Vanessa was born on the island and is therefore a 'Caulkhead', outsiders who move there are called 'Overners'. David is thrilled with what he sees, loves the house and spots a guy swimming like a seal in the bay, who turns out to be Taylor Monroe (he featured briefly in the first book Waiting for a Prince). Taylor owns Cove Kayaks where you can hire all sorts of equipment...boards, wetsuits and I suppose kayaks!! David thinks the young man looks beautiful, 'at one with the water, his movements fluid and graceful'. Vanessa also gives him some surprising news...the phones don't work very well...little or no signal because of where it's situated, and as for the internet....No contact with the world he'd left behind, he smiles and says 'that's the best news I've had all day'. He naps and then wakes, decides to go exploring, he visits the supermarket, goes back to the house and prepares himself some dinner and afterwards, feeling a little down in the dumps, gives himself over to thoughts of Clark, the 'lying little Gold Digging bastard'. After realising he doesn't want to go there, he goes for a walk in the bay and is startled to see so many stars and a slim figure walking towards him on the sand. He belatedly notices that the slim figure is tall, nude and has a very nice....package, the young man introduces himself and is of course Taylor Monroe.

What follows is a courtship of sorts, constrained as they are by the fact that David is only there for a month. He meets Taylor's family and friends, all of whom think he's great and don't care that he's 20 years older than Taylor, he makes friends of his own, starts writing again...in a new and different direction with Taylor as his inspiration, and well, we'll leave it here. Does Clark make an appearance, will Juliet ever let him go back to the States, all will be revealed dear reader. Loved it.

Sweet and sappy, with a whole lotta sexin' - which, thankfully, I was in the mood for.

Probably would have liked it more had it only been from David's POV; I feel like we got to know him better and given how short the tale was, focusing on him would have been a more judicious use of story-telling.

Also, we have a Big Misunderstanding, the Bitchy/Cheating Ex Surprise Visit, and an OMG! You Almost Died. I think that's one too many OTT drama tropes. The BM was overblown anyway; David's ex was a gold-digging cheater, they'd been together for 2 years and he had no idea he was being used. For Taylor to get mad David didn't 'fess up to being "James" (David's writing Pseudo) after knowing each other for only 3 weeks was just ridiculous. That said, David didn't lie by omission, as he claimed. He said something to the effect of not being as good a writer or as famous as "James." Which I guess could be categorized more as obfuscation, but still not "omission."

Finally, with the Ex showing up, there was still room for the OMG!YAD moment and reconciliation.

Anyway, fun fluff to kill a couple of hours with...and with all those lovely sites described here I'm adding Isle of Wight to the bucket list!

I just liked this book. I'm not sure I really even know why. There is no stand out reason, no major event or climatic moment that enthralled me, the characters are lovely but not spectacular - something just appealed.

The story is about David, a well-published author who is suffering writer's block after being betrayed by his lover. His publisher forces him to take a break and books him accommodation on an island off the English coast.

Here he meets free-spirit Taylor, a younger man who eventually captures his heart.

I loved the location, I loved Taylor and I enjoyed the story with it's low-angst but a few moments of tension and misunderstanding.

This was a great sequel to the first book, although totally able to be read stand-alone.

What a beautiful story! Emotionally charged but with a low angst-level.

David, a bestseller author suffering a writer’s block and a broken heart, is staying in a lighthouse on the Isle of Wight. All he wants is to get his mojo back and forget Clark, his ex boyfriend who cheated on him.

Taylor is such a cute, friendly, happy guy… you just don’t have another choice than to love him. He’s 20 years younger than David and has no clue who the mysterious American guy is...

I loved the beautiful romance, the setting on the island, the beach, the sound of the waves, Taylor’s wonderful family.

For me September’s Tide is the best story of the of the trilogy. Recommended!

Of course, as the summer ends, Taylor realizes the casual feelings he began with have deepened; and he wants David's heart, David's love, and not just his touch. Then the unexpected happens and it forces Taylor to confront his true feelings. The question now becomes rather he will be brave enough to fight for the man who has completely rewritten every single rule he had, or will he just watch David sail away when the seasons change?

I really, really like K.C. Well's writing style. She was one of the first M/M Romance writers that I read, more years ago than I care to remember:) I really loved this story and the two men who were drawn together and were brave enough to break all of their "rules" and embrace the deep feelings that each had for the other. They still had the end of David's stay there looming over them and so I was glad when they finally admitted their feelings and worked out how to make it work and stay together. There are loads of emotions and feelings that are so easy to feel and understand. Thank you, Ms. Wells, for another wonderful story. Now write me another one:)

Poor David. He is a famous writer (under a pseudonym) who has been caught in the grip of writer’s block since he caught his lover, Clark, cheating on him. Actually, he’s kind of been in the grip of life block. He was devastated by the betrayal and he’s just floating along. When one more ignored call from his agent and good friend is ignored, she takes matters into her own hands and books him a stay in England, at Steephill Cove. He needs to move on from his stupid cheating boyfriend and get on with his life.

The Isle of Wright, that’s where he’s going to do that. He’s going to try to forget his adulterous boyfriend and start writing again. As the scene of Clark’s infidelity goes through his mind yet again, he goes out to look at the beautiful sky. All the stars capture his attention and this is where he gets his first glimpse of the lovely Taylor. That Taylor happens to be naked, well, that’s just lucky. From there the relationship between the older David and the younger Taylor goes from a friendship to friends with benefits to maybe something more.

This is not a drama filled book and even with the slightly melancholy feel of it while David is trying to get over his hurt and heartbreak it’s a soft type of story, character focused on David for the most part. Taylor is younger than David but he doesn’t come across as immature, just as David comes across sometimes as wounded but not “old”.

There were a couple times, especially at the end, when I wanted to shake David. Yes, I know cell service on the island is bad sometimes but as Taylor prepares a romantic dinner, there is a visit from the ex. Okay, bad timing but David doesn’t even attempt to call him, just blows it off (that’s what it seemed like “oh couldn’t get away”). That made me sad.

Taylor’s family is wonderful and welcome David wholeheartedly. Taylor’s friends are also awesome and at least David has Juliet, his manager, on his side. The fact that he’s only there for a month leads to a heart jerking scene when it’s time for him to leave. This is romantic and sweet without much angst but with likeable characters.

I loved Taylor but David took some getting used to. He started out as a total prick. Although he improved, he still had his moments. And they were doosies!

As an aside, I was a tad irritated that "Mark" wasn't the Mark (of Mark & Sam) from book 1. Would it gave killed KCW to name the guy Matt or Marty or Malcolm to avoid confusion? Jeez.

Bottom line: Sexy, smexy, angsty (just a little), and fun!

There are times when you enjoy reading a story but then you have to review it, and on occasion I find that hard to do. This is one of those occasions.

I won’t deny I’m a fan of the writing of K.c Wells. I think she is refreshing and sexy (if you get what I mean by that), and always captivating. I personally always look forward to reading a new release of hers. Having reviewed a few books of hers before and after reading all of them, I am trying to keep my opinions clear and objective .

I cannot deny I liked the story, but why did I like it? It’s easy reading with no major drama and great characters, but I didn’t expect any less.

You get introduced to David, a popular writer who suffers from writer’s block and a broken heart. He is forced by his PA to travel to the isle of Where, to stay in the lighthouse she rented for him for a month. How could he have known his life would be changed by that decision?

As a reader you know that and you can sense more things in this story, but it doesn’t distract or bore at any level.

Then we meet Taylor, the sexy younger island hottie who loves to swim. The instant attraction is there from the minute they meet. You can feel it in the way the author writes their coming together over the whole story. Right up to the perfectly sweet epilogue.

A special note I need to make about Taylor’s friends. What a supportive crowd and an awesome bunch of guys! And let’s not forget Taylor’s family who take David in and give him the family he surely desired by being warm and welcome.

This story is number two in the Island Tale series but is a standalone and I kind of think that is a shame. I would have loved to have snippets of the main characters from the first one (Mark and Sam) but I also have to admit that it’s possible that is just my own preference :)

Overall I still am wondering what I liked, and again I liked it a lot. So much that I didn’t want to put it down and that I read it in one go. Perhaps what’s said above gives the right impression though. I am very curious to see the new part and if I’m honest, I hope we will get snippets of the main characters from this book and the first book as well in the new part :)

Ok, la Wells sta rapidamente diventando una delle mie autrici da "auto buy"!!! Avevo letto lo splendido "Una Questione Personale" ed ero fortemente convinta che non potesse creare due personaggi che mi piacessero di più rispetto a Blake e Will... Mi sbagliavo alla grande, David e Taylor sono semplicemenete fantastici! Ho amato il modo delicato e lento con cui due uomini così diversi decidono di dare una possibilità a ciò che sta accadendo tra loro, e non parlo solo del sesso. David è uno scrittore famoso, ha 46 anni, ed ha bisogno di una pausa di riflessione per ritrovare la sua musa, messa in crisi da un doloroso tradimento. Taylor è un ragazzo di 26 anni, è solare, divertente, timido... adorabile! Ciò che per entrambi inizia solo come una relazione fisica li costringe presto a porsi domande e nuovi obiettivi... Accanto ai protagonisti non si può non citare la fantastica famiglia di Taylor e i suoi favolosi (e iper-protettivi!) amici.
L'ambientazione poi, su un'isola meravigliosa come quella di Wight, è assolutamente perfetta!

4.5 stars - I'm really loving the Island Tales series and I can't wait to read more. I read this in one sitting and just couldn't put it down. I was hooked from the start and became completely involved in the story. September's Tide is totally different plot-wise from the first book in the series. It is a very simple tale of two men falling in love, with barely any angst and just a small amount of drama. I loved how laid back and relaxing it was - it's just perfect if you're looking for something sweet and romantic. It was wonderful to see the progression of Taylor and David's relationship, and that epilogue left me with a huge smile on my face. I can't recommend this series enough. Great romantic stories that leave you feeling all warm and toasty on the inside.

Very enjoyable, fluffy, not-much-drama kind of romance that I read in a single day. Loved the setting and both heroes very extremely likable. Plus, the MC waxed poetic over a beige-gold Nissan Micra car (albeit cabrio), and as the owner of one myself, I can't help but like him all the more for it :)

Kc Wells’s September’s Tide is one of those marvelous feel-good stories that make reading romance novels a delightful pleasure. It could have been the story of a man and a woman but that would have been oh so ordinary. The fact that it is the story of two men falling in love, without the whole world’s blessing and support, makes it an epic romance.

David is a well-known American writer, although he writes under a pen-name so that his identity as David Hannon is private. He has lost his lover to faithless cheating and has spent his time since then moping and drinking instead of moving on and continuing to write. He is sent to the Isle of Wight by his agent in an effort to jump-start him back to life.

Taylor is a happy-go-lucky surfer and surf shop owner who spends his days as he pleases, has many friends and companions, and a loving family. He was born and raised on the Isle of Wight, which is home to thousands of people and a vacation mecca to thousands more, but still offers little opportunity for a gay man to openly meet and spend time with other gay men.

And so, we have two men with much in common: they are gay, both have traveled extensively, both, as it turns out, are writers, and both secretly long to find that one partner who completes them and with whom they can spend a life of contentment and love. But they are also very different. David is much older than Taylor. David is also much less happy, has insulated himself from friendships, and has major trust issues. There is one more chasm between them that comes into play and that is the Atlantic Ocean itself. It is a very wide gap that when David’s vacation ends will separate them permanently if they let it.

September’s Tide takes these men from the moment David spots Taylor out on the water in his wetsuit to the moment they must each make life altering decisions about their futures together and apart. In between is a discovery of how two people learn to know and possibly love one another, despite the odds against them and their own hearts telling them this won’t work. And just as they have decided that maybe, just maybe they have some kind of future together, Ms Wells throws in the angst, the twist of the heart that throws the MCs and the reader back into reality full force. It comes in the form of what started as a small omission of information but now is seen as a deception that breaks all trust Taylor has built with David. If that isn’t enough, a great misunderstanding occurs and… well, I’ll leave it to you to find out what happens and how it is resolved, because there is definitely a characteristic Kc Wells HEA at the end of this book.

Ms Wells lives on the Isle of Wight and unselfishly shares the beauty of her home with us. If you can read this book without booking your holiday flight (and train and boat and taxi) it’s only because you haven’t yet worked out the time and money to do so. Her descriptive powers bring the people as well as the water, the shore, the towns and even the very buildings to life in a way that is beyond any tourist brochure’s ability to tempt the traveler.

I fell in love with David and Taylor. They remain one of my favorite couples and I find myself thinking about them as real people that I could and should visit. I can imagine David offering to show me around and Taylor preparing a dinner of fish he just caught that afternoon. I love Ms Wells’s writing. Her stories and characters are enchanting and absolutely addictive, always leaving me satisfied but wanting more. This is an author to follow and put on your autobuy list.

What a stunning, emotionally charged, beautiful story. Both main characters are amazing men, and I suspect that quite a bit of my fascination comes from the fact that David is an author suffering from writer’s block – a situation I can personally relate to. There is much more to his story than that though, and getting to know him and his past was great fun. Taylor, who is twenty years his junior, is just as interesting, going from my first impression of “probably a surfer boy” – in the nicest way – to a young man who has had his share of heartache and so deserves to find love. Watching the two of them meet, get to know each other, come to an agreement, then unwillingly and unwittingly walk all over it was touching and aggravating all at the same time. A fabulous read, K.C., thank you!

David, an American writer of detective novels under a pseudonym, has been sent to the Isle of Wight by his agent. His task? Get his act together and finally finish his next novel. His problem? When they agree to make the most of the four weeks they have, no strings attached, Taylor expects to have a great time – and nothing more. But he quickly discovers, with the help of his four wonderful friends, that there is more to his relationship with David than he expected, or wanted. How did he fall in love so quickly? Never mind that, actually, how is going to survive David leaving?

If you like stories about men who think they have “love” figured out only to discover they had it all wrong, if a beautiful beach setting and descriptions of lazy days in the sun (and blisteringly hot nights under the moon) are your thing, and if you’re looking for a read that is as hot as it is deeply touching, then you will probably like this novel as much as I did.

September's Tide, as we all know, is the second book of the Island Tales. However, I noticed that although this story is set in the same Isle of Wight, that is where the similarity begins and ends. There is no mention of the previous characters in any way and it is safe to say that this is a standalone book.

This story begins with a depressed world famous author David, suffering from a lover's betrayal and worse, a writer's block. He had not written anything worthwhile in more than six months and alcohol is not helping. Comes in his worthy publicist/friend/girl friday, Juliet, who sends him off on a forced leave vacation to The Lighthouse on the scenic Steephill Cove. (Here the author reiterates the Googling and I did. I saw David's Lighthouse and his bedroom and took my own virtual tour so I could honestly say that view from his bedroom was absolutely fanfreakingtastic!) Here, he spots a "beautiful boy" coming out from the sea - this is Taylor, twenty-six years old and apparently, twenty some years younger than him.

In comes the usual older man/younger man scenario.

And that concept ends.

Right. There.

K.C. Wells treated the romance between David and Taylor differently from the usual route. There was hardly any imagined or true angst, so there was no uber-drama to face. Theirs was simply a romance that started off as lust, then friends with benefits and finally blossoming into something unexpected and beautiful.

And it was beautiful, this story.

After reading the first book, I had no idea that I would read up another fantastic book. This is totally different from that first one which topic was sensitive. This has a more relaxed feel to it and yet both the plot and characters developed so very well. I would not consider this a light read either for although it is only a bit over a hundred pages, it still came out seemingly longer and more. In the end, it was so very worthwhile reading this contemporary romance. The best thing is, after I reached the end and went to lalaland, I dreamt of Lighthouses and a beautiful romance that has the potential to be an HEA because the romance developed into maturity and ended very solid.

The age difference does not seem to be a big issue between these two characters and it did not bother me much. Taylor is a sweet, young, athletic and creative man who lives on an island. David is sent to the island by his publisher because the heartbroken man has holed up in his apartment after catching his boyfriend in bed with another man. My one complaint is that Taylor knew that Clark was an cheating ass and that David did not want him – why was he so quick to believe Clark? Maybe, that was just his youth.

There is nothing stand-out about this book, but it is a fun read.

Dei tre libri tradotti finora di questa saga, questo è probabilmente il mio preferito.
Mi è piaciuta la storia d’amore di Taylor e David, che ha la giusta dose di problemi e incomprensioni da risolvere, tanta dolcezza e del buon sesso ben descritto.
Ho adorato anche i personaggi secondari che aiutano i nostri protagonisti, sia gli amici di Taylor sia la sua famiglia. Invece Clark merita un bel ceffone, ma in ogni storia deve esserci il ‘cattivo’ di turno.
Lo consiglio a chi ama questa serie e a chi cerca un bel libro ambientato al mare.

when I rate a book I base it on what it does to me, my heart, and if it will stay with me long after the words "The End" are written. September's Tide is filled with so much that every emotion paid me a visit. Two men entering this story with the familiarity of a broken heart. Together they glue the pieces back and prove that love doesn't matter the miles, it always finds a way. I was truly touched by this story.

J'ai vraiment beaucoup apprécié cette sympathique histoire.
Les personnages principaux sont très attachants et on suit avec plaisir la progression de leur relation. C'est doux, c'est gentil, sans grande prétention mais très plaisant (et également reposant) à lire.
L'auteur a eu la bonne idée de situer les événements dans un lieu qui fait penser aux vacances et tout en lisant ce livre, je m'imaginais fort bien auprès de ce phare, au bord de la mer. (Soupir!)

Although I didn't love this one as much as the first I still really enjoyed these two. There is a substantial age difference between them but it didn't seem to matter. I loved the descriptions of the Island. It felt like I was there with them in the lighthouse. (I wish) Pretty hot smexing and just a touch of angst. Great read.

Another solid story in this series and from this author! I thought this was an excellent follow up to the first book. I just really like her writing style and the chemistry between the main characters. Very emotional, real, and fun to read...hard to stop reading too! Can't wait for more, I am hooked...makes me want to go to the beach!

KC Wells, mi sta sorprendendo (in meglio) ad ogni libro che leggo.
Noto anche con piacere che le traduzioni e l'editing sono state fatte con più accortezza (anche se ho trovato un paio di congiuntivi sbagliati ç_____ç).
La storia è dolce, romantica, hot quanto basta e...insomma LEGGETELO.
Un ottimo MM per cominciare l'anno :)

I enjoyed this. Not a lot of drama or angst, just enough. The characters were likable. I think this one took place before or during the same time as book 1. From the poem Taylor wrote, it seemed that there was more to his story that could have been explored and wasn't.

This was so good. Super sweet, but I like 'em like that on occasion. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series, maybe about Eric? Hope so.
