Punch the Boss

Rate this book
Punch the Boss is a semi-autobiographical account of various menial jobs and obnoxious bosses endured by the author. From short-order cook, ditch digger, factory worker, and drywaller, Chris tried his hand unsuccessfully at many backbreaking and low paying jobs, learning the hard way that high school dropouts always enter the workforce at the very lowest possible position. He also discovered that power tripping, authority loving supervisors and foremen could often be worse than the actual jobs themselves. Loaded with black humour and self-deprecating wit, this book is sure to make you groan with empathy and howl with laughter. While the author does not advocate violence, readers can decide for themselves if there should be exceptions to the rule.

Fun book but repetitive. It brought me back to the days when I worked terrible jobs for very little money.

Ex addict, old school punk rocker, and author Chris Walter does it again with "Punch the Boss". Semi true stories of his slacker years, drinkin',going to shows, living in dilapidated buildings with the most interesting of characters for roommates, and in and out of the many miserable menial blue collar type jobs that pay just enough to barely scratch out a meager existence in beer, cigarettes and..Well,that's about it. Absolutely hilarious! I love this guy's writing. Some of the bosses and co workers he's endured are similar to my own experiences in my teens and early 20's. The restaurant stories are the best! I will never be able to order a "well done" steak ever again after reading this book. I highly recommend. You will laugh your ass off. Chris Walters also did the biography of one of my favorite bands,"The Dayglo Abortions". That book is called "Argh Fuck Kill!" And is a must read as well. Great observational humorist writer.

Well first thing, (and this is a spoiler alert!), he doesn't ever punch a boss. Wise decision I think, but the title is misleading. It is a nice insight into some crappy jobs out there, and Chris Walter had most certainly added his usual charm and punk-rock poetic spit into this easily drank back book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun stagger down an easily digestible book.

...but not so much if they are an employer though.

Oh man. Haven't we all had crap jobs with even crappier bosses? I know I have. Thank goodness those days are behind me. This was a fun, easy read. I finished it in a day. At times the repetition got to be a bit much (pissing in coffee, for example), but that's pretty much my only criticism.
